OUR MISSION

Opportunities for Inclusion’s mission is to serve
individuals with intellectual and developmental
disabilities and their families in the community,
utilizing a person-centered planning approach.
We provide quality, flexible programs, services and
supports which maximize independence, foster

inclusion, promote self-advocacy and build
community connections. Our programs are based

upon self-determination, sound teaching
practices and the latest technology. Opportunities for
Inclusion is committed to advocacy and legislation
to influence attitudes and perceptions so individuals

may choose and achieve life goals.

Good morning and welcome to Opportunities for
Inclusion’s 49th Annual Harvest Breakfast! We are proud
to have you join us at our annual community fundraiser!
I join our Board of Directors and staff in thanking you for
attending. We appreciate our sponsors and advertisers,
many of whom are with us this morning, as well as our
participants, families and guardians, city officials, Board
members, volunteers, community members and longtime
friends and supporters of Opportunities for Inclusion.
It is the caring and support of each of you that keeps
Opportunities for Inclusion strong for participants we
serve. Our mission to serve persons with intellectual and
developmental disabilities and their families is the
challenge and honor we all share. Thank you all for

Employment Programs

Group Supported Employment:

 Participants work at community sites under the
supervision of our staff

 Brandeis University (dishrooms,
Buildings & Grounds)

 Bentley University (dishroom)

 28 Participants

Individual Supported Employment:

 Participants work independently in
the community with job coaching and support

 Walgreens (Renee A.)

 True Value (Adam M.)

 Lasell College (Kristina S., Yves V.)

 Belmont High School (Richard B.)

School to Work Transitions:

 A collaboration with Waltham Public Schools

 Prepares high school students with challenges to
transition from school to work and productive
community life

 Helps students gain work experience through
volunteering and paid employment while in school

Adult Day Programs

Day Habilitation:

 Focuses on developing physical and social skills and
maximizing independence

 Physical, occupational, behavior and other therapies
provided

 Community and volunteer activities broaden skills
and abilities

 34 participants

Community Based Day Supports (CBDS):

 Focus is on inclusive community access

 Volunteer activities/Community Service

 Deliver Meals on Wheels weekly

 Volunteer at local Food Pantries

 20 participants

NEW! ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) Programs:

ABI Adult Companion - Includes support, supervision
and socialization. Companions may help with daily
activities, such as meal preparation, shopping and being
involved in the community

ABI Supportive Employment - provides support to
allow participants to obtain competitive employment at
or above the minimum wage

ABI Day Services - may include support to learn or
improve daily living and functional skills and other
skills training and activities to be more fully involved in
the community and promote greater independence

Opportunities for Inclusion
Adult Family Care (AFC)

 MassHealth funded program for individuals with dis-
abilities or elderly who require assistance with daily
living activities

 Caregivers receive a tax-free stipend for the care they
provide

 Caregivers receive ongoing support from a registered
nurse and a care manager

 Helps individuals stay out of nursing homes

 49 members

“The AFC Program staff are a kind and loving group...who are
dedicated to their clients. They have consistently come up with

ideas and solutions...all for the benefit of their clients.

The AFC staff details safety concerns that a caregiver may have
overlooked or hasn't thought of...we are very happy being in-
volved in the AFC Program and highly recommend it."

 Open to individuals in our programs and the
community

 Activities in Waltham and beyond

 Program receives accolades from all involved

 Brandeis Buddies seeks to build friendships between
Brandeis student volunteers and adults with
developmental disabilities who work on campus or
live in the community

 Watch City Self Advocates meet monthly to learn
how to speak up for themselves and others, enjoy
guest speakers, volunteer for a favorite cause, meet
community members and have some fun while doing
good for themselves and others!
