District Employee Spotlight
By: Abby Nichols & Kayleigh Shuttlesworth

Our featured District Employee of the Month is Mrs. Sonya
Burnett. Mrs. Burnett is the Special Education Director for
Arp and Troup, where she works together with her team to serve
the students of both districts. Her job mainly entails setting up
meetings with parents. Due to federal changes, she has had to set up
many more meetings this year. She grew up in Corsicana, Texas
and went to UT-Tyler where she earned her Bachelors Degree in
Reading and Writing with a major in Diagnostician, or Special Ed.
Mrs. Burnett was inspired by both of her parents who were teachers and shared her love for
teaching students. Her favorite movies are Fried Green Tomatoes and The Wizard of Oz. In
Mrs. Burnetts free time, she enjoys playing with her two dogs, going to concerts with her
husband and cooking with her mom. Mrs. Burnett’s advice to students is, “Never
underestimate what you are capable of doing!” Thank you Mrs. Burnett for your dedication
to the students of Arp ISD.

Congratulations to Mrs. Charlyn Black for being chosen as the
Employee of the Month for Arp Elementary. Mrs. Black has a very
big family with 7 children and 13 grandchildren. When she isn't at

Texas which is in deep southeast Texas on the Louisiana -Texas border.
She went to Texas A&M where she majored in education. She has
been at Arp for 4 years teaching 1st grade. The favorite part of her job
is getting to love on kids everyday. She was inspired to teach this age,
because she loves teaching reading and 1st grade is the foundation of
reading for every kid. If she could go anywhere in the world, she would love to go to the Great
Barrier Reef and go snorkeling. If she could have any superpower, she would want to be able
to fly. Her advice for students is to “work hard and keep trying.”

Congratulations Mrs. Black!
