This year the Spanish teacher, Mrs. Deards, has assigned all Spanish 1, Spanish 2, and English classes participate in the vocabulary contest where they placed first in Texas. A few things that students enjoyed about the competition were that as they accomplished certain things, they would get prizes like candy or hats. They said “it was a cool experience and loved the way that they got to learn more words everyday as they did the work.” At the end of the competition, the students that participated were able to create their own list. 12

Employee of the month When Elizabeth Johnson began working at AHS, her goal was to bring order and structure to the office and help create an environment that was inviting and helpful for all. To this day, her motivation is very much the same, and seeing things work smoothly while continuing to improve keeps her going. She strives to do her part to help make Arp High School the best campus it can be. The only aspiration that she had was to become a wife and mother one day, Lord willing. Outside of that, she was considering becoming a nurse or teacher simply because she thought she might be good at those things. Although she is not in a classroom, she does enjoy being a registrar and secretary here at the high school, and a cheer coach for the district. “There is never a dull moment!” she states. She enjoys reading and watching old movies in her spare time. Additionally, she enjoys having the opportunity to watch her son and daughter participate in their extracurricular activities. She has been at Arp seven years altogether, but in different capacities. She doesn't have one particular memory, but she most enjoys helping with the days of Christmas, and teacher/staff appreciation. It is always fun planning these days and being able to share it with the staff. As she coaches the cheerleaders, she enjoys seeing the girls improve, learn new skills, grow in their confidence, work together, and encourage each other. Seeing these changes from the start of the season to the end is most rewarding for her. 14
