Danielle Rousseau One Act Play Advances to Regionals A Dream Comes True Congratulations to former AHS Tiger DeMarvion Overshown, who has achieved his dream of playing in the NFL. On Friday, April 28th the Dallas Cowboys selected DeMarvion with their 3rd round draft pick in the NFL draft. DeMarvion was surrounded by family, friends and former coaches when he received the call. What an exciting time to be an Arp Tiger!


By: Alex Rodriguez Pag e 4 AHS Staff Member of the Month—February Arp High School AHS Senior of the Month—February Arp ISD Heartbroken After the Passing of Beloved Senior Mrs. Johnson is a mother of two with a freshman son and a 4th grade daughter. She has worked for Arp for 4 years. She’s married to Coach Chris Johnson. She was born and raised in Tyler, where she attended East Texas Christian Academy (ETCA). She then went to TJC where she completed her basics. She’s the AHS Registrar and the principal’s secretary. She also sponsors the Jr. High School cheer program. The favorite part of her job is the interaction with everyone. Her favorite place to go on vacation is to the beach, but she also enjoys going to a cabin. In her free time, she enjoys reading as well as watching movies and just hanging out. Her favorite genre of books are romance novels. Her one piece of advice to students is to be kind because life is short and to realize that everyone has a lot on their plate. Congratulations Mrs. Johnson! E lizabeth Sellers has attended Arp for two and a half years. Her favorite subject is Math. She was in a Bob Ross club at her old school. She has one brother, Thomas, who is a sophomore at AHS. She plans to attend UT Tyler to pursue a degree in Computer Science. In her free time, she watches anime and plays the guitar. She wants to do a tour of Europe for a vacation. Her favorite holiday is summer vacation. Her favorite season, however, is winter. Her favorite place to eat is Dicky’s BBQ Pit. Her favorite dessert is homemade brownies. Her life goal is to be able to fully enjoy her life. Congratulate Elizabeth Sellers on her student of the month achievement! The Maroon Messenger Arp High School, Arp ISD, and the Arp community are mourning the loss of beloved senior, Thomas Fuller after learning of his passing on April 26, 2023. Thomas was an active athlete, participating in football and track during high school. He was also a State UIL qualifier in powerlifting. Thomas excelled in the classroom and was a member of the National Honor Society. Thomas was a friend to everyone he met and his smile was like a ray of sunshine. Our condolences go out to his parents, sisters, and the entire Fuller family.

Jacob has been attending Arp for five years. He has two siblings, one being a graduate of Arp and the other being in Arp Jr High. His favorite subject is World Geography, and he is a part of the Arp High School Marching Band. He loves to play video games and fish when he has time. Jacob wants to tour Italy when he gets older. He loves watching the John Wick series of movies and loves listening to jazz music. Jacob’s favorite holiday is Christmas while his favorite season is winter. Jacob loves to eat at Dolli’s Diner in Nacogdoches, and his favorite dessert is pancakes. Jacob wants to own a suit business when he gets older. Coach Langley has inspired him the most because of his inspirational talks and how hard he pushes his students. Congratulations, Jacob! R andee Black is February’s Student of the Month. Randee has been going to Arp for five years. Her favorite subject is History. Randee participates in volleyball and basketball. She has six other siblings, of which only one other attends Arp. After high school, Randee plans on becoming a nurse. Randee loves to sleep in and watch Bluey with her younger siblings on weekends. Randee listens to Christian Music, and her favorite artist is Lauren Daigle. She loves the Christmas season and enjoys spending time with her family. Randee just wants to focus on graduating high school and then college. Randee would like to tell others to always be yourself no matter who you’re around. Congratulations, Randee! F isher Arrington’s favorite subject in school is Math. He participates in band, athletics, fishing, and UIL. He has two siblings that attend(ed) Arp, AJ (AHS class of 2022) and Case who is a freshman. After high-school, he plans to get a degree in Business. His dream vacation is Italy. His favorite show is Seinfeld. His favorite sports to play are football and basketball. His favorite music is anything from the 50s-60s, music such as Elvis. His favorite season is summer but his favorite holiday is Christmas. His favorite place to eat is McAllister's Deli. His favorite dessert is mocha cake. The teacher that has inspired him the most is his mother, Mrs. A. His one piece of advice to any student would be to work your hardest and turn in your things in on time. Haley has attended Arp schools since Pre-K. Her favorite subject in school is Math. Haley is very involved within our school. She is a part of the FFA where she shows cattle, runs cross country, is a member of the fishing team, and is part of the National Honor Society. Haley has one sibling in the 8th grade named Heidi. After high school, Haley plans to attend Texas A&M University to study Animal Science and Ag Law. On the weekends, she enjoys spending time with family and attending church. Haley's dream vacation is to be on a deserted island. Her favorite thing to watch is mysterious movies or DateLine. Haley enjoys watching college football. Haley's favorite music is Christian and Country. Her favorite holiday is Christmas and her favorite season is fall. Her favorite food to eat is Mexican food, and her favorite dessert is cheesecake. Haley’s main goals are to be successful in college and make good grades. Haley’s advice to freshmen is to always continue to work hard and stay motivated because you will enjoy those rewards in the future. Congratulations Haley! Mrs. Amy Herrell is our High School employee of the month. Mrs. Herrell is our assistant principal at both AHJS and AHS. Before becoming an assistant principal, she had taught English for 11 years and even taught here at Arp for 9 years. She was born and raised in West Virginia, where her parents still reside, and moved to Texas in her 20’s. She attended Philip Barbour High in West Virginia and graduated from there as well. For college, she went to UT for Elementary Education and SFA to receive her Master’s Degree in Education Leadership. In Mrs. Herrell’s free time, she enjoys going to football games, scrolling through Pinterest, and watching movies on the weekends. She says she hardly ever has any free time because there is always work to be done. She states the best part about her job is hanging out with the kids and feeling like she has made a difference and an impact on kids’ lives for the better. Her dream vacation is Alaska. She has visited Paris and even lived in England for two years! If she could have any superpower, she would like the “Stop Drama Superpower”. Her advice to students is “Don’t focus on the right now. Try to make a change and focus on the end goal.” Congrats and thank you for all you do, Mrs. Herrell! The Maroon Messenger

Julian has been going to Arp for 10 years. His favorite subject in school is BIM II. Julian has two older siblings that graduated from Arp. Julian plays football and baseball. He plans on attending Baylor University in hopes to become an orthodontist. In Julian's free time he likes to fish, listen to country music, and watch Outer Banks. His dream vacation is to go to Hawaii. Julian's favorite season is summer, and his favorite holiday is Christmas. Julian loves to eat both chicken and ice cream. Coach Alexander has inspired Julian the most because of how much they have in common and his inspirational talks. Julian wants to tell all current and upcoming students to take your classes seriously because it truly does matter. Congratulations, Julian! J aycee McCollum is the Freshman of the Month for March. Jaycee has been going to Arp since Kindergarten. Her favorite subject in school is Math, and she enjoys cheering and playing volleyball. Jaycee has one sibling, Allee who is a Junior at AHS. After high school, Jaycee plans to go to college and become an orthodontist. While at home, Jaycee enjoys hanging out with friends and going to the gym with her dad. One place Jaycee would love to visit is Greece. Her favorite sport to watch is football, specifically the Texas Longhorns. Her favorite music artist is Morgan Wallen as well as just listening Christian Music. Jaycee’s favorite place to eat is Javís and her favorite dessert is brownies. Jaycee’s goals for now are to graduate, have a family, and become an orthodontist. Jaycee doesn't miss junior high at all. She says she loves cheering on Friday nights and enjoys having more freedom in high school. Her least favorite thing about high school is it’s a lot of work. Mrs. Huffstetter has inspired her the most so far through her years of being a student at Arp. Congratulations, Jaycee! J oslyn Swinney has been attending Arp ISD since Pre-K, her favorite subject is Math. She participates in dance outside of school. She has two cousins that also attend Arp, 10th grader Bryce Everett and 6th grader Jaye Everett. Her plan after high-school is to graduate with her Associates of Art Degree in Dance, then go to college to major in Entrepreneurship. She then hopes to go on and dance with a company for a few years. When she has free time, Joslyn enjoys rehearsing for upcoming shows, going to church, and spending time with her family. Her dream vacation is to return to Switzerland for a second time. Her one piece of advice to any student is to always put forth your best effort, don’t stress yourself out over the small things, and to remember not to take other people’s opinions too seriously. By: Bridgette Mindt Vol um e 9 , I s su e 7 Arp High School Pag e 17 Track Stars Advance to Regionals Six Arp Tigers are Regional Bound! Junior Wyatt Hurst placed 4th in the pole vault with a 12' jump to advance to the next round, while senior Wyatt Ladd finished 4th in the 300 meter hurdles. This is Wyatt’s 2nd straight year to advance. Advancing for the Lady Tigers are senior Chassity Barnes, junior Alana Benefield, senior Abby Nichols, and sophomore Aubrey Poole who won a 3rd place bronze medal in the girls 4x400 meter relay. Others earning medals at the area meet in White Oak, were sophomore DeMarcus Wade tying for 5th in the high jump, senior Hunter Nash who wound up 5th in pole vault, freshman Zane Bourque who finished 6th in the 110 meter hurdles, freshman Zyon Washington who was 6th in the discuss, and the boys 4x200 meter relay team made up of Nash, junior Frank Smith, junior KJ Yarbrough, and senior Jaydon Spradlin which finished 6th. The UIL Class 3A Region 2 meet took place on April 28-29 at Whitehouse ISD's Wildcat Stadium.

She has been going to Arp since Pre-K. Her favorite subject is English. When she grows up, she wants to be a veterinarian. She likes to play softball in her free time. If she could go anywhere in the world, Hannah would like to go to Paris, France. Her favorite food is Chicken Alfredo and her favorite dessert is cookies. She loves Christmas. If she could have any superpower, Hannah would want the ability to time travel. Congratulations, Hannah! L ara Parker is a life long resident of Arp, having grown up and graduated from here. She is married, has two kids, one in college and one who is a sophomore in high school. She went to TJC for her basics, then got her Bachelor’s Degree at UT Tyler in Interdisciplinary Studies, followed by her Masters Degree at SFA in School Counseling. She’s been in education for 24 years and has worked for Arp for 21 years. She is the Jr. High School Counselor and the District Testing Coordinator for all three campuses. The best part of her job is getting to know the students. Her favorite place to go on vacation is Alaska. In her free time, she likes to read, garden, and cook. Her favorite book is The Bungalow. Her one piece of advice to any and all students is, “When you’re in a bad spot, it’s not as bad as it seems; it’ll all pass, if you don’t let it take over your life.” Please congratulate Mrs. Lara Parker on her employee of the month achievement. Anna has been going to Arp for two years along with her two siblings. Her favorite subject is Math. When she grows up, Anna wants to be a coach. She likes to play sports and runs in her free time. If she could go anywhere in the world, she would travel around Europe. Her favorite food is watermelon, with her favorite dessert being ice cream. Her favorite holiday is Christmas. If Anna could have any superpower, she would want to fly. Congratulations, Anna! L evi Thomas has been attending Arp his whole life. He has an older sister in 11th grade, and he participates in athletics. His favorite subject is Math. When he grows up, he wants to be a physical therapist. In his free time, Levi likes to draw. He has four dogs named Remi, Jasmine, Muffins, and Murphy. His favorite food is pizza, and his favorite dessert is ice cream. His favorite video game is Fortnite. Levi’s favorite holiday is Christmas. He says he’s a little nervous about going into the 8th grade, but is ready for the challenges that come with it. Jayden is an only child and has been attending Arp his whole life. Jayden’s favorite subject is Reading. Jayden plays football, baseball and is in the Arp High School Marching Band. Jayden wants to be a car salesman when he grows up. Jayden likes to fish and watch Yellowstone in his free time. Jayden wants to visit Hawaii when he gets older. Jayden has many pets that he takes care of including: dogs, cats, and cows. Jayden's favorite food is steak along with a favorite dessert of a Coke float. Jayden would like the ability to teleport if he could have a superpower. Congratulations, Jayden! S haron Hale is new to Arp. She joined the elementary staff in February, but has been in the education system for 15 years. She’s been living in Arp for about two years. She was born and raised in Gladewater. She attended Kilgore College and then went to the Art Institute of Dallas. She has three children and one grandbaby. In college, she majored in Merchandising and Marketing. She is currently working as an educational assistant at AES. The best part of her job is being able to help everyone learn and assist them when they have trouble. Her favorite place to go on vacation is the beach because her kids enjoy going there. In her free time, she enjoys fishing and playing with her grandbaby. Her favorite movies are The Blindside and The Bucket List. Her one piece of advice to any and all students is to not give up no matter what and not be afraid to ask for help. Sean has been attending Arp for 10 years. Sean has a few other family members that also attend Arp schools. Sean is in the Jr. High Band. He wants to be a firefighter when he grows up following in his dad’s footsteps. Sean likes to train with law enforcement in his free time. Sean wants to travel to Austin when he gets older. Sean has two pet cats and a wiener dog. Sean loves all kinds of food, but he especially likes chocolate ice cream. Sean loves playing Call of Duty and watching any medical/cop series on television. Congratulations, Sean! J aylene Aguirre is March’s Student of the Month for Arp Jr. High. Jaylene has been attending Arp for three years. She also has other siblings that attend Arp schools. Jaylene’s favorite subject is History. Jaylene participated in volleyball this year. She is unsure of what she wants to do in the future. For now, Jaylene loves to spend time with her family creating new memories. Jaylene would love to travel to Mexico for a vacation. Jaylene’s favorite holiday is Christmas because she gets to spend it with her family and open gifts. Congratulations, Jaylene!

By: Alex Rodriguez Vol um e 9 , I s su e 7 Pag e 23 Elementary Student of the Month—February Arp Elementary Staff of the Month—February K aren Gonzalez has been a music person since she was little. She grew up in Vidor, Texas. She went to college at Stephen F. Austin University for Music. This is her first year at Arp. She teaches music at the elementary school. The favorite part of her job is getting to play music with the kids and being able to introduce them to something new. She was inspired to teach because of her love of teaching, from her kids at home to the kids she teaches now. Her dream place to go on vacation is Hawaii. In her free time, she is learning how to play the harp. Her favorite movie is called Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Her one piece of advice to any student is to not give up and to work hard. Please congratulate Mrs. Gonzalez on her teacher of the month achievement. A ustie Smith is a 1st grader with two brothers, one of which is in ninth grade and the other is in 11th. Her favorite subject in school right now is Math and her favorite activity in PE is basketball. Her favorite thing to do when she gets home is to play on her Xbox that her brother got for her. Her favorite game is Fortnite. Her favorite food is apples, and her favorite dessert is cherry pie. Her favorite color is pink. She has two cats named Rosie and Mrs. Kitty. When she gets older, she wants to become a doctor. Her favorite time of day is dinner because she gets to be with her family. Her favorite holiday is Christmas. By: Gracie Jones Pag e 24 AES Staff Member of the Month—March Arp Elementary AES Student of the Month—March Mrs. Denise Schmidt is our Elementary Staff of the Month for March! She moved to Arp just this year. She previously taught in Chapel Hill for 14 years and one year in Jacksonville. She has four kids, three attend Chapel Hill and one who attends here in Arp. She grew up and graduated from Chapel Hill. She teaches 5th grade Reading and History. She likes to create a community, wants the students to know they are loved, and wants to see them grow. In her free time, she likes to hang out with her friends and family, She likes to go camping and to read books. She loves vacationing in Orange Beach. Advice she would like to give to students is “Always do your best, be proud of who you are and know that you are loved.” Congrats, Mrs. Schmidt! Haven Mills is the Elementary Student of the Month for March! Haven is in 5th grade and has three sisters who attend Arp schools. Her favorite subject is Math, because it is easy for her. Her favorite activity in PE is to play games. After school, she likes to play Mario with her mom. She enjoys their time together. When she gets to middle school, she would like to play softball and volleyball. Her favorite TV show is SpongeBob. Her favorite food is steak and favorite dessert is vanilla ice cream. Her favorite color is blue, and her favorite animal is a panda. Haven also has six pets! Congrats Miss Haven Mills for being student of the month! The Maroon Messenger
