A Word from our Superintendent - Dwight G. Thomas
The first semester is winding down and I would like to say Arp ISD displayed itself in glorious
fashion during the fall. The girls’ volleyball team finished second in district play and despite los-
ing their bi-district playoff game against New Diana, Head Coach Leigh Ann Roberts was able to
end her 33-year coaching career on a good year. Coach Robert’s tenure at Arp has produced a
list of district and playoff championships that may never be matched. Thank you Coach Roberts
for 33 great years of service to this district. The varsity girls’ basketball team has started the sea-
son with multiple victories and look to have a fine season under first year coach, Chris Johnson.
The Tiger Band was the lone 3A band to receive straight 1’s in all division categories at this year’s
marching contest at SFA University. Director Chris Cook has once again produced a winner with
this year’s marching band.
Arp HS Tigers’ football team had an amazing run through the playoffs this year. Coach Irwin
and his coaches had the team well-oiled and primed for a big year. The team annihilated Corri-
gan-Camden, 55-13, in their first playoff game and then New Waverly, 49-6, before upending
two state powerhouses. Arp knocked off Crocket, 35-32, before defeating the states #1 team,
Newton, in the State Quarterfinal game by the score of 13-6. In the state Semi-final game, Arp
lost a heartbreaker to Boling HS by the score of 19-18. This year’s crop of senior football players
are some of the finest young men that have ever worn the maroon and white for Arp HS. We ap-
plaud their accomplishments and wish them well in their future endeavors.
In November, Arp HS paid tribute to the past and current men and women of our Armed
Forces. Students from all three campuses were in fine form reading poems and singing inspira-
tional songs. The AHS band did an excellent job playing the songs of the Army, Navy, Air Force,
Marines, and Coast Guard. It was a wonderful production by all and kudos go out to the admini-
stration, teachers, staff, and students who made it happen.
In my 32 years in education, the first semester always seems to pass a little more slowly than
the spring. I would imagine this year will be no different. Buckle up because the drive to the end
has started. Good luck on the next five months of school, make it your best yet!

Seniors, there are scholarships available and deadlines are coming up quickly, so stu-
dents need to start applying. Mrs. Lowery’s scholarship website is found on the Arp High

ties come in almost every day.
Also Seniors, Spartan College will be here on January 17th to meet with you at 9am.
Staff Member of the Month - Gretchen Rayburn

with such great people. She attended Kilgore College and received a

spends her weekends searching for antiques and junk that she can re-
furbish or up cycle and her idea of a the perfect paid vacation is a trip
to Germany at Christmas with her entire family. Mrs. Rayburn’s first job
was working in a concession stand at Golden Park for the Tyler Parks and Recreation Depart-
ment during the summer before her 10th grade year. Her favorite restaurant is Bruno’s, where
her and her husband have dined for the past 35 years, because the food is always perfect. She
enjoys spending time with her four cats: Bobby, Fuzzy, Miss Kitty, and Kenny and a Chihuahua
named Chico. Mrs. Rayburn enjoys listening to Grunge/Metal music and Chris Cornell of Sound-
garden is her all-time favorite vocalist and musician.

Our Arp Tiger football team has had an amazing year and made our little town very proud. They worked hard
and made it all the way to the 5th round in the playoffs, which hasn’t been done in a long time. This year’s team
has set the bar high for future football players in Arp and set a great example of what it takes to have a win-
ning team.

has been at Arp for two years and has been teaching for seventeen. Mrs.
Huffstetter is married with one daughter who attends Oklahoma Univer-
sity. She likes math, reading, and doesn't have many dislikes. Her favor-
ite T.V. show is Impractical Jokers. Outside of school, she enjoys doing
mission trips with her church. Her favorite part of the job is seeing her students get that ah-ha
moment. If she could, Mrs. Huffstetter would love to return to Africa for the beauty of the land
and animals of the country. The adjustment to the new junior high has been amazing for her,
due to the fact that this is her first year ever to teach in a brand new school. She enjoys hang-
ing out with friends and family, working with her youth group, reading, and playing with her
three dogs.

Goosebumps series and her favorite movies are Minions and Courageous.
7th Grade Student of the Month - Sylvia

Sylvia is the seventh grade student of the month. She is skilled in three
instruments: the piano, clarinet, the flute which is her instrument in band,
and plays a little guitar. She is the tallest person in her grade and has
been since pre-k. On the weekends, she hangs out with her friends,
fishes, and watches scary movies. Sylvia’s favorite food is a medium-rare
steak. She has an older brother named Derrick who attends AHS. Sylvia is
very active in school. She is apart of the Student Leadership Committee, volleyball team, and
cheerleading squad. She likes that at the new Jr. High, she no longer has to dodge rain buck-
