With homecoming just around the corner, Arp America is a busy place to be, especially at Arp JuniorHigh. September15 isthe date set for homecoming. But in these chaotic and exciting days ahead, it’s easy to forget that, “No significant learning occurswithoutsignificant relationships”,which isthe junior high’sslogan this year. When asked aboutwhat advice hewould give this year’sstudents, principal Jason Shieldessaid, “Make the most of thistime by not onlyworking hard academically, but alsoworking hard on building lasting relationshipswith your teachers and otherstudents.” “You never knowif the next relationship you make could last you into high school and beyond,” he added. The goal of the jr. high this year isto, “Focus this year on building positive relationshipswith students, teachers, and parentssowe can create a schoolculture that issupportive of its educators while encouraging studentsto growacademically,” Mr. Shieldes explained. JR.HIGH Advice from the Principal “Arp is a very special place wherewe lift each other up, work together, and offer a helping handwhen needed.”says Principal,Mr. Shieldes. 11

that everyone has the essentials to operate their class as needed. He greets each person as they walk by everyday in the hallways all while having a huge load of responsibilities to maintain at the high school campus. Be sure to stop by and shake his hand when you see him to show our appreciation for all his countless hours worked and support he shows each Arp Tiger daily. When we asked Mr. Miller what quote helped him strive to gain his achievements, he stated, “If it’s to be, it’s up to me!” If every Arp Tiger would realize their potential and opportunities ahead of them, every Arp Tiger would achieve everything that their heart desired. Whether it is football, a doctor, or a principal, it is possible if you put your mind to it. The High School is running full pace with fall assessments, sports, pep rallies, Friday night lights, and hearing the sounds from the band across town daily. This small town has came alive overnight with the transition from summer to back to school. Education is seen as an importance in the eyes of many Arp Tigers this year as they strive to get enrolled into needed courses and CTE. The principal, Mr. Mike Miller, has been a strong asset to the high school campus as he leads with high expectations and a caring heart. Mr. Miller cares for his students and staff as his own, and makes sure HIGH SCHOOL Aword from theHigh School Administration “Ifit’sto be, it’s up to me!” DanNielsen The Jr. High and High School have the privilege of having an assistant principal to help configure data, share the load of responsibilities, and have an additional smiling face on campus to greet students. Mrs. Amy Herrell wears many different hats at Arp and we are glad to have her a part of the Arp Tiger Family. Mrs. Herrell began as a teacher and decided to return to school for her Masters. Once completed, Arp ISD was able to gain a new assistant principal. She strives to make sure everyone, including students and staff, feel appreciated, and welcomed, all while following all policy and procedures. Between classes, be sure to stop and tell her hi and how much we appreciate her countless hours. “Educating the mind without educating the heartis no education at all.” -Aristotle 12

I truly appreciate all their hardwork and commitment to the XC program.” Cross Country Coach Joel Avance has been coaching Cross Country for two years. Hiscore values as a coach consist of being accountable, having a goodwork ethic, showing a positive attitude, and improving the overallculture of the team. “Team struggles are largely caused by mentality,so I try to constantly facilitate a positive environment by first remaining positive myself, verbalizing positivity, promoting othersto share positivitywith others,” says Coach Avancewhen asked how he approachesthe struggles ofcrosscountry.
