Message From Our Principal

Coach Hunley

Spring has finally arrived! I cannot remember a winter in which I
have missed seeing the sun as much as this one. It has reminded me
that we should not take for granted the people that mean a great deal to
us. I am grateful for many things in my life, especially the teachers and
students at this school. So remember to take time this spring to
appreciate those that have invested time in you. The spring semester
will be over with almost as fast as it started. Continue to persevere and
work hard to achieve the goals that you have set forth this semester.

Finally, I am so honored to be a part of this community and to have been given the opportunity
to be the principal of this high school.

Announcements from Our Counselor

Mrs. Donna Lowery

Preparing Juniors: College Applications
While the seniors are still waiting for decisions for where they will be accepted to next fall, the Juniors
need to begin their college application process as well. There are a few key things the Class of 2019
can do to make the process seamless.

Create that List!
Begin to think about what is important to you in a college. Some things to consider are school size,
location, academic reputation, financial fit, majors and special programs, and social atmosphere. Be
sure to check out Graduate for Mas to build your college list! Start doing some research and visit,
visit, visit!

Begin your Essay
It’s never too early to begin thinking about your college essay. This essay is unlike a typical “English
class” essay and has 3 main purposes. 1. Answer ”Who are you?” 2. Explain how can you contribute
to a college campus. 3. Demonstrate that you have writing ability. This is traditionally the sticking
point for many students during senior year, so get it out of the way now! There will be time to update
and revise in senior year.

Do well in Junior Year
The most important thing you can do in your Junior year is to do well in your classes. Colleges want
to see that you have learned not just math and English over the last 3 years, but that you learned how
to study, to manage your courses and to be responsible. The best way to demonstrate that is with good
grades.
