1 1.0 Introduction Chinese, known as Mandarin, is one of the most widely used languages in the world. In Malaysia, the usage of Chinese is increasing, despite the fact that certain institutions still teach Chinese as a subject. In the logographic writing system, each character in Mandarin represents a syllable or meaning. This language has hundreds of characters as well. Meanwhile, it differs from European languages in terms of grammar. In either English or Latin, the idea of inflection does not exist. On the other hand, functional words such as particles and context often determine the meaning. Not only that, but Mandarin has four tones or vocal accents, and as the tone varies, the meaning of the word changes as well. Finally, pinyin is a Romanization technique used to transcribe Latin characters in Mandarin. This assists those who wish to learn Mandarin quickly and clearly. To understand Mandarin, students need a lot of time and patience. The Electronic Magazine or E-Magazine method can be used to stimulate students’ interest in continuing to learn Mandarin. The creation of this E-Magazine is aimed at assisting students to comprehend simply, quickly, and clearly.
2 2.0 Appreciation We are grateful to God because, with His abundant grace, we were able to complete the publication of the E-magazine despite the many obstacles we faced. We would like to thank Madam Zhang Yu, the Mandarin subject lecturer, for her advice and guidance throughout the completion of this assignment. Finally, we hope this E-magazine will be a useful knowledge base and reference for users who want to learn Mandarin easily.

7 4.2 Short sentences Uncle is drinking Chinese tea. dānníěr zài hē zhōngguó chá 叔叔在喝中国茶。 My little brother likes to drink Milo. Wǒ de dìdì xǐhuān hē mǐ luò 我的弟弟喜欢喝米罗。 Please give me a cup of coffee. Qǐng gěi wǒ yī bēi kāfēi 请给我一杯咖啡。 This restaurant looks luxurious. Zhè jiā cāntīng kànqǐlái hěn háohuá 这家餐厅看起来很豪华。
8 A plate of fried rice costs RM4.50. Yī pán chǎofàn de jiàgé shì sì lìngjí wǔshí xiān 一盘炒饭的价格是四令吉五十仙。 This matcha tastes very bitter. Zhège mǒchá wèidào hěn kǔ 这个抹茶味道很苦。 This restaurant sells a lot of fresh seafood. zhè jiā cānguǎn mài hěnduō xīnxiān de hǎixiān. 这家餐馆卖很多新鲜的海鲜。 The waiter is taking orders from a customer. fúwùyuán zhèngzài jiēshòu gùkè de dìngdān 服务员正在接受顾客的订单。
9 4.3 Short dialogue zài cān tīng 在餐厅 Hassan and Sammy go to the restaurant for lunch. hā shān hé sān měi hé hā shān qù cāntīng chī wǔfàn 哈山和三美去餐厅吃午饭。 Waitress: Please take a seat. This is our restaurant menu. Fú wù yuan: qǐng zuò. zhè shì wǒmen cān tīng de cài dān. 服务员:请坐。这是我们餐厅的菜单。 Hassan: I want a plate of chicken rice. Hā shān: wǒ yào yì pán jī fàn 哈山:我要一盘鸡饭。 Sammy: I want a plate of nasi lemak. Sān měi: wǒ yào yì pán yē jiāng fàn. 三美:我要一盘椰浆饭。
10 Waitress: Okay, would you like something spicy? Fú wù yuan: Hǎo de, qǐngwèn nǐ yào bùyào là de? 服务员: 好的,请问你要不要辣的? Hassan: I want something spicy. Hā shān: Wǒ yào là de. 哈山: 我要辣的。 Waitress: What would you like to drink? Fú wù yuan: Nǐmen xiǎng hē shénme? 服务员: 你们想喝什么? Hassan: I want a cup of coffee. Hā shān: Wǒ yào yībēi kāfēi 哈山:我要一杯咖啡。 Waitress: Would you like cold or hot coffee? Fú wù yuan: Qǐngwèn nǐ yào lěng de háishì rè de kāfēi? 服务员: 请问你要冷的还是热的咖啡？ Hassan: I'd like a cup of hot coffee, not too sweet. Hā shān: Wǒ yào yībēi rè kāfēi, bùyào tài tián. 哈山:我要一杯热咖啡，不要太甜。
11 Sammy: I'd like a glass of orange juice, thank you. Sān měi: Wǒ yào yībēi chéngzhī, xièxiè. 三美:我要一杯橙汁, 谢谢。 Waitress: Okay, please wait a moment, we will deliver the food as soon as possible. Fú wù yuan: Hǎo de, qǐng shāo děng, wǒmen huì jǐnkuài bǎ shíwù sòng guòlái. 服务员: 好的，请稍等，我们会尽快把食物送过来。
12 5.0 Summary In conclusion, this e-magazine provides an opportunity for all individuals to enhance their vocabulary. The importance of vocabulary in Mandarin is because it may improve comprehension when reading. Additionally, they can learn frequently used Mandarin dialogues through this e-magazine. This may help the communication of an individual who wishes to do so in Mandarin. Lastly, this e-magazine may also lighten the burden on a person who wishes to learn the basics of Mandarin by collecting and summarizing the material into a single publication containing daily-used vocabulary and verses from a variety of societies.
