COMMITMENT: GROW THE HARVEST

 Action
Develop a comprehensive map of the location and type(s) of fruit trees on private and public
land within the city of Seattle.
Metrics
Working with tree owners, researchers, and public partners, develop a system for mapping fruit
trees that captures a full picture of Seattle’s fruit tree canopy, while protecting the privacy
concerns of tree owners
Seattle Fruit Tree Map is developed; integrated into City Fruit’s technology systems; publically
available; and shared with relevant City/County partners, for integration into their maps.

Grow the orchard canopy in every community

100% of Seattle’s communities have publicly accessible fruit trees

Increase the number of trees participating in the Great Seattle Fruit Harvest

Increase fruit tree canopy by promoting urban-friendly planting strategies that meet the
needs of a growing and densifying city.

Develop and promote resources that prepare neighbors and organizations for planting fruit
trees in urban spaces, such as in planters, on patios, in planting strips, or on rooftops

Partnering with community organizations, public partners and businesses, coordinate planting
of 3-5 new orchard plots that are publicly available and offer inspiration for creatively using
urban space to increase access to food and land
