Cirrus

It is found at high altitudes, 39,000
feet. They are thin, wispy clouds. They
usually come with fair weather.

Cirrocumulus

This is a high altitude cloud it is 39,000 ft
in the air. It usually predicts fair but cold
weather in the winter. It looks like a white
sheet or patch.

Cumulonimbus

This cloud is a low atmosphere cloud. It is 59,000 feet in the sky. These clouds are associated
with rain, snow, or other typical bad weather. It looks like an anvil.

Cirrostratus

The cirrostratus cloud is located in the higher atmosphere (20,000 feet). They look sheetlike
and are see through when the sun or moon are behind it. They usually appear 12 or so hours
before a rainstorm.

Altocumulus

Altocumulus is at a medium altitude, (20,000 feet). Similar to cirrocumulus, but individual
segments are larger and darker.
It is not associated with any
precipitation.

Altostratus

Altostratus is found in the middle atmosphere around 20,000 feet. It looks like a sheet or
blanket, but you can see the sun through it. It usually appears with rain.

Nimbostratus

Nimbostratus clouds are found in the lower atmosphere around 6,500 feet. They are dark
clouds usually accompanied by precipitation.

Stratus

They are a low atmosphere cloud around 6,500 feet. They are like horizontal layers. It looks
like drizzle, freezing drizzle, or snow.

Cumulus

This cloud is a low level cloud around 7,900 feet. It looks like a puffy, cotton ball. It comes
with little or no precipitation.
