Elderbank February 2021 Newsletter

Elderbank February 2021 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you and your family are well. We appreciate that
everyone is doing an amazing job in challenging
circumstances, especially now as we move into our fourth
week of remote learning.

As we have said from the start of the previous
Lockdown, the emotional wellbeing of your family
is most important. Please do not try to recreate
school at home, but use the activities as suggestions and
remember learning happens through many everyday fun
activities. These include cooking, baking, gardening and
going for a walk.

We have taken on board
comments from parents and
carers and we will be
introducing Thankful Thursday
from this week, whereby the focus will be on Wellbeing and

active activities to promote social skills and fitness and
move away from screen time. In addition this will also give
parents and carers an opportunity to plan activities across
the week. Literacy and Numeracy will be uploaded Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

If you require to speak to a member of staff,
please call the school office between
8:30a.m. and 3:45p.m. The Office is manned
throughout the day and a member of the Leadership Team
will call you back if they are not available when you call.

Early Years Registration for August 2021 opens online today
(1st February 2021). This is for children born between 1st
March 2017 and 28th February 2019.

If your child has a place this session at Elderbank and
wishes to remain in the same a.m. or p.m. session in August
2021 then this will be an automatic process. If however, you
wish to change the session times, then you require to
complete a new application to register and places will be
allocated centrally. All new pupils require to register online
by Wednesday 10th February 2021. The link is on the Council
Website.

The parent/carer booklet has all the information on 1140
models of delivery and is available for parents on the NAC
website: https://www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/education-and-
learning/early-years/early-years-centre-enrolment.aspx

There is also an interactive map which parents and carer
can use to identify establishments by locality and model of
delivery:

We have had lots of positive contact from learners through
VScene check-ins, Googleclassroom, or sending their
teacher an email. If we have had no contact from a pupil,
the link DHT will give you a quick call or send a text, just to
make sure all is well. Please don’t be upset by this, we are
only checking in as we have not heard from you or your
child.

As outlined previously, if your
child has any difficulty with
their Google Classroom
account or accessing online
learning, then please contact Mrs Bigham directly by
telephoning the school office on 01294-218632 or emailing
[email protected]

As you will be aware we have set up class check-
ins using the VScene platform. Last week the

connections were improved from the week before for many.
There have still been some technical hitches, which are out
with our control at Elderbank. However, Mrs Collins has
been liaising directly with VScene and she is assured that
technical issues should be resolved this week. We thank you
for your patience.

In August and September we were
able to distribute a number of
devices which had been requested
during the first period of home
learning for pupils who did not have access to a suitable
device. We placed further orders and issued more NAC
devices in October following the communications we sent to
all families. In January other families requested support
and we have applied to NAC for more iPads. We have
supported families with temporary support while we await
deliveries from NAC. As soon as these devices arrive we will
have them distributed.

We are all awaiting an announcement from the Scottish
Government on Tuesday 2nd February in relation to the re-
opening of schools. As soon as we have further details we
will be in touch.
