Diary Project Mrs. Rosen

Diary Project Mrs. Rosen

Mrs. Rosen’s
Journal

December 10 1934
A few months ago the leader of the
deadly group the Nazi’s became the
dictator of germany. Here in Denmark
there are soldiers on every corner. If
they catch you out past eight o’clock,
you will get in a lot of trouble.

Same thing if you don’t have your blackout
curtains down by eight o’clock. There is a
lot of killing for no absolute reason and we
are all very frightened. Adolf Hitler is
trying to take over europe but to me, it
seems like the world.

February 24 1920
Today the most horrifying statement
was announced of my life. Adolf
Hitler is planning to eliminate all of
the Jewish population. I am a Jew! I
am so glad that we have the best
friends so that we can hide. The
Johansens are going to keep Ellen safe
with them but me and Mr. Rosen have
to go to Ellen’s “uncle’s” house.

I am so scared to let my daughter be
without her mom and dad for a little bit,
I hope. What if they don’t just check the
jewish houses, what if they are smart
enough to know that people are hiding
them and check all the houses? I can’t
imagine. I hope this is the right thing to
do, I hope it works.

February 28 1920
Here I am under a boat going to safety
in sweden, I hope. I can’t believe I did
this. I am very sea sick right now and
I don’t even think we are halfway yet.
Ellen is just as scared as I am right
now but at least we know that we
will soon be free. Whatever we do, I
know it is worth it.

This is the only and best way to get us
safe and away from those mean and
nasty soldiers who want to eliminate
all of the Jewish population. I don’t
know if I can make it much longer.
This is the worst and what it seems like
sloest travel I have ever made. I just
hop that they don’t find me and family
in the bottom of this boat covered in
fish. I just hope.

March 8 1920
Sweden! About a week now in
sweden and I haven’t even seen any
soldiers! Me Mr. Rosen and Ellen are
here without any damage and are
safe! Now we can start a good
family, more food, more money, and
especially, more freedom. That boat
ride was absolutely worth it. But
there is one downer and it is the most
important. The Johansen’s.

I dearly miss Mrs. Johansen and Ellen is
very sad that she can’t play with
annemarie any more. “We will go see
them sometime.” I say, but she just
replies “Not like we used to!” She is
right. She would see Annemarie every day
while she was at school but now we have
to go acroos the sea to go see her. It may
not be like it used to, but it is a whole lot
better.
