Alirio Torrealba

Llegó a

Me

ALIRIO TORREALBA

Revitalizing the arts and cultural scene in Coral Gables

Alirio Torrealba is a true visionary. Originally
from Caracas, Venezuela, he fell in love with the
colonial and Mediterranean architecture of Coral
Gables, a place he decided would become his new home
and that of his three children and wife Doris. His Company,
MG Developer, has more than four development projects
under construction, but his legacy to the city of Coral
Gables continues to move beyond fantastic luxury homes.
As a passionate Art Philanthropist, Alirio has slowly but
surely once again made art into one of the pillars of Coral
Gables.”

“I learned that art humanizes spaces and is a form of
enjoyment for people. For the benefit of the city of Coral
Gables, we joined together with artists Roberto Behar
and Rosario Marquardt, the creators of a gigantic stone
bench “A Midnight’s summer dream,” a large outdoor
living room that promotes a sense of society, ”comments
Torrealba.

The sculpture, which is a gigantic sofa with a carpet in
front, served as an inaugural piece for the City’s Art in
Public Places program and seeks builders to donate
a percentage of the value of their projects to art for the
enjoyment of Coral Gables residents. Located in Balboa
Plaza, the sculpture complements Biltmore Square, an
area where it stands above the park.

Torrealba, who is also a member of the board of directors
of the emblematic Coral Gables Museum, was recently
photographed for the exhibition “The Silence Project,”
which was exhibited in the city since last July 5 and
was created by the renowned Cuban dermatologist Flor
Mayoral .

The artist seeks that each person identify the feeling that
the photograph conveys.
“When they called me, I felt grateful and privileged to
participate. I did not know the scope and human depth
that this would reflect in me. I would like to quote a text
from Paul Goodman:

“Not speaking and speaking are both human ways of
being in the world, the fertile silence of awareness,
pasturing the soul, whence emerge new thoughts; the
alive silence of alert perception, ready to say, “This…
this…”; the musical silence that accompanies absorbed
activity; the silence of listening to another speak,.”

Torrealba adds: “Silence is the mystery of life. Silence as
a human attitude. These are phrases that humanize you
and make you reflect. I am proud to be part of this and I
admire the work of the photographer as they connect the
community of Coral Gables.

MG Developer also presented three pop-up galleries
throughout the city center, providing a creative refuge for
local and international artists to develop and exhibit their
works of art.

entendido. Años después comencé a tomar fotos de personas
haciendo ese gesto.

KARIBANA

KARIBANA
a true gem north of paradise
By: Sabina Covo

Many species of colorful birds singing, sea waves crashing elegantly on the coastline, a sky that blends in the horizon with the blue sapphire
ocean, and a breathtaking golf course set in deep emerald tones-- this is Karibana, a piece of heaven where the soft sea breezes blow freshly
cooling the day and making the nights wonderfully vibrant.
In the center of this incomparable destination, you’ll find the Conrad hotel by Hilton: a majestic architectural structure that combines both modern and
traditional style. There’s a great central bar in the lobby and magnificent doors and windows that give way to a panoramic view of 4 swimming pools
and a beautiful beach. Joseph Mildenberg, commercial manager of Karibana, says that the spaces of the Conrad hotel were inspired by the Caribbean
climate. “Art and architecture blend to offer a beautiful touch, allowing us to enjoy paintings and sculptures by well-known Colombian artists such as
David Manzur, Ana Mercedes Hoyos, Edgar Negret and Pedro Ruiz, in an open, fresh and elegant ambiance,” he says.
On the finely defined paths that surround the hotel, golf carts come and go with players from all over the world to the only golf course that borders the
Caribbean Sea in Colombia. Karibana attracts a slew of tennis players, some of them world-class, who enjoy the comfortable and updated courts that
are open year-round and the extensive water sports activities like kitesurfing. Their great open spaces invite people who truly enjoy physical activity.
Located half an hour from Cartagena, this paradise offers peace and tranquility. A walk along the beach or simply the joy of being close to nature are
some of the best things the Colombian Caribbean has to offer.

28 Aug/Sep 2019 | www.holalatinosnews.com

It would certainly be considered a crime not to try the succulent fried snapper accompanied by
tostones, or patacones (fried plantains) and coconut rice at the Beach Club. The place offers
many culinary options in five different restaurants catering to the tastes of local visitors, as well
as international guests. Not only is Karibana considered a glorious vacation oasis, but a place
where you can actually own a summer home or even retire in a safe and peaceful paradise in the
Caribbean.
This gem is located just half an hour from the international airport of Cartagena, a World Heritage
City that has just been appointed as the best honeymoon destination by the World Travel Awards,
something like the Oscars in the travel sector.

Both residential buildings and hotel rooms offer beautiful views of the sea and the golf course, and
hosts international golf tournaments. All members of the Karibana Club have access to swimming
pools, spas, playing areas for children, excellent cuisine, rooms for events, bars and entertainment
of all kinds. Right now, Karibana is offering land for sale for those who wish to build in paradise.

“Soon, 137 new apartments will be available, with areas ranging from 1,335 to 2,293 square feet,
and prices ranging between $ 347,000 and $ 768,000. In addition, 46 lots are available for sale
with areas from 5,920 to 13,262 square feet, and prices ranging from $ 305,000 to $470,000,” says
advisor Susana Berastegui.

Residents and visitors of Karibana have access to an 18-hole golf course designed and built by
Nicklaus Design, listed since 2016 by the Golf Digest Magazine as the best golf course in Colombia.
In addition, Plexi Cushion surface tennis courts, the same technology used professionally in the U.S.
and Australian Open. Also, a Club House with semi-Olympic pool, Spa, gym, restaurant, bar and
events room.

Beachgoers can enjoy a one-kilometer long Beach Club of paradisiacal waters, swimming pool,
restaurant and bar.

Residents also have access to the amenities of the Conrad Hotel: 5 restaurants, bars, 4 swimming
pools overlooking the sea, Spa, gym, and an events room with capacity for 1,400 people.

us how she has accomplished so much in such little time.

Tell us how you got started in Real Estate? Did you
always know you wanted to be in the luxury real
estate market? At what age did you get your license?
I was fortunate to know what I wanted my career to be
from a young age. At just 12 years old, I knew I wanted
to be a realtor. I grew up in an era where Miami’s real
estate was booming. I saw the city grow before my
eyes. I wanted to have a part in that growth, which is
why right when I turned 18, I got my real estate license.
Since then, I’ve worked hard to build my own real estate
team, “The Elmir Group,” under Cervera Real Estate,
where we’ve sold over $400 million in real estate in the
areas of Brickell, Biscayne Bay, Key Biscayne, Design
District, Midtown, Coconut Grove, and Coral Gables.

What is your secret to success in such a competitive
market and at such an early age?
My secret is nothing groundbreaking, but more of a
story about hard work and doing what others didn’t to
move up in the industry. I knew that to grow in this field
I’d have to go the extra mile, which is why I personally
went to visit all competitive listings. Anyone can look
online, but going in person gives you a true feel of the
listing and the surrounding area.
I put a strong focus on truly knowing our neighborhoods.
My team and I have become hyperlocal specialists of
sorts. We make sure that we have an understanding of
the ins and outs of the listing, the area, and the buyer who
I am showing the listing. We familiarize ourselves with
every aspect of an area, including the neighborhood, the
housing market of the area, the inventory, the schools,
local issues, and traffic concerns. Being knowledgeable
about these aspects helps us guide the potential buyer in
making an informed decision.

What is your sales expertise? Condos, homes,
commercial?
I found a niche in the luxury residential and penthouse
market.

What do you like most about your career?
I love that the real estate industry allows me to constantly
meet new people and continue to grow. Being in charge
of my own success challenges me to continue working
hard and breaking new real estate records in Miami.

Tell us a little about the Elmir Group. How
did it get started?
The Elmir Group started with the simple idea
of having a team who knows the ins and outs
of each neighborhood they work in and cares
about the clients. From there, we’ve only
continued to grow.

How do you get these A-list clients? where
are your majority of clients coming from?
My biggest tool is the personal relationships
I build. In real estate, as is the case with most
other professions, people want to work with
someone they feel comfortable and connect
with. Beyond building relationships, the hard
work I put in for my clients results in either
referrals or clients coming back to me when
they are looking to sell their home or move.

You’ve won numerous awards Top National
30 under 30 Association of Realtors, tell us
what has been your biggest success in the
industry?
The biggest success I’ve experienced is
having my own team. The entrepreneurial
nature of real estate is what first attracted
me to the industry, so to be able to now have
my own company has been nothing short of
amazing.

What is your highest sold property to date?
What real estate records have you broken?
The penthouse at Brickell Flatiron. It’s a
penthouse on the upcoming 64-story Brickell
Flatiron. The layout combines two condos—a
three-level and single-level unit— and set
a new record as Brickell’s most expensive
condo sale in the last 10 years. I sold it for
$13.2 million.

¿Cuéntanos cómo empezaste en el negocio de
Bienes Raíces? ¿Siempre supiste que querías estar
en el mercado de lujo? ¿A qué edad obtuviste tu

récords de bienes raíces has roto?

Condominios, propiedades comerciales, residenciales, reventas,
proximidad a Miami Beach, Downtown Miami y Miami Design

la zona.
