Introduction from the Town Council Chairman

Welcome to the Kesgrave Town guide 2017, the purpose of which is to
allow existing and new residents the opportunity to find out what's going
on in and around Kesgrave, with an update of information on clubs,
activities and venues available.

During my lifetime Kesgrave has grown from a village with a population
3,381 in the 1960's to well over 15,000 today. Kesgrave obtained Town
status in 2000, and in recent years has been highly ranked in national
surveys about wellbeing and Best places in Britain to live. The range and
diversity of sporting activates within in the Town led to it being awarded
Suffolk's most active Town in 2015 and runner-up in 2016.

Being Kesgrave born and bred, in fact my Great Grandparents moved to
the village in the 1930's, I am proud to be part of a Town which still has a
strong community spirit. I see part of my role as Chairman of the Town
Council, is to encourage community engagement. This printed version of
the Guide is designed to work in tandem with the online version, which
will have regular updates, to keep you informed.

The Town Council has always taken pride in having dedicated teams of
Councillors and Staff, working together and committed to creating and
maintaining a better Kesgrave through partnerships, some of which have
been formed over many years.

I hope you enjoy Living in, working in or Visiting Kesgrave, as much is I
have over the past 50 years and for many years to come.

Neal Beecroft-Smith
Chairman of Kesgrave Town Council

DOG WALKERS

Dogs are welcome in most of Kesgrave's open spaces and
Long Strops is a great place for both dogs and their owners to
stretch their legs. As part of our drive to keep Kesgrave clean,
the council have funded many of the Fido bins around the
town. We have created a dynamic map detailing their locations
which you can access via the Kesgrave Town Guide website.
So when walking your dog, please familiarize yourself with
these locations and if you can't find one, any public litter bin
will do. Bags, specifically for this purpose can be purchased at
the Council office at 60p for a roll of 50 bags.

Report it – we'll deal with it!
Dog waste in public areas is managed through scheduled street cleansing. When reporting
incidents of dog mess, we aim to remove from roads, parks and play areas within 24 hours.
To report an incident in need of cleaning, please contact the Kesgrave Town Council on
01473 625 179 or via email: [email protected]

Failing to clean up after your dog on public land is a criminal offence and is enforced by
Suffolk District Council. If you observe this happening, please contact them on 01394 444 000.

LONG STROPS

Enhancement of the mile long area with a
hedge of mixed indigenous species is now
well established. A wildlife pond and
educational boards providing information
about the landscape features and wildlife,
makes this a popular destination for
walkers. There is a free car park off
Millennium Way. Opening hours are
8.00am to 11.oopm every day.

FOOTPATHS

A part of the Parish Paths Partnership Scheme, Kesgrave offers circular walk routes, along
with neighbouring parishes. Maps detailing the routes can be bought for £1.35 from the
Kesgrave Town Council office, Kesgrave Library, Penzance Road Post Office and the Ipswich
Tourist Information Centre. Alternatively, visit the web version of this guide to view online.

KESGRAVE GUIDE

STREET LIGHTING

Street lighting in Kesgrave is, in the main, owned by Suffolk County Council. However, there are some lights in
the older areas of Kesgrave owned by the Town Council. The Town Council-owned lights are maintained under
contract to the County Council who aim to repair faulty lights within 2 weeks. Priority is given to dangerous
faults and are normally made safe within 2 hours.

If a street light is showing any of the following it's an emergency and you should call 0345 606 6171

• Exposed electrical wires
• 4 or more adjacent lights out, whole streets,

adjacent streets
• Damaged or leaning street columns,

lit bollards, lit signs or street lights
• Missing bollards
• Flashing lights (wig wags) outside schools

not working
• Belisha beacons at zebra crossings

not working

Street lighting photograph by competition winner Will Lemay

You should contact UK Power Networks helpline on 0800 783 8838 if a street light outside, and the lights in
your property are flickering. This may indicate a problem with your electricity supply.

For all other problems it's quicker and easier to report a fault online via the Suffolk County Council website. Be
sure to have the following information: location of the faulty light (town and road name), unit number (this can
be found on a plastic plate attached to the column of the street light), and details of the fault.

LITTER & RECYLING

Kesgrave employs two Litter Pickers who work to a weekly schedule and an occasional handyman primarily to
sweep up large areas of litter when necessary. These gentlemen enable the Council to achieve a somewhat
speedier result than Suffolk Coastal. Please contact the Kesgrave Council Office with details of areas of
concern.

Kesgrave is well served by bottle banks at The Bell public house and by a variety of banks at Tesco.
Household blue recycle bins are collected fornightly by Suffolk Coastal Norse (SCN LTD) - they also collect
compostable waste from your brown bins once every two weeks.
For collection dates, please contact 01394 444 000 or email [email protected]

Your nearest household waste recylcling centre is at:
Foxhall Road, Brightwell, Ipswich, IP10 0HT
