As Seattle Christian School completes 72 years
of ministry and we see our 75th Anniversary
looming just over the horizon, we
joyfully recall God’s faithfulness to
His school since its founding in
Ravenna in 1946.
Over the last seven decades
He orchestrated school
moves, brought gifted faculty
to join the ministry, and
infused leadership with the
courage to adjust programming
to meet the needs of Christian
families and their students. Our partnership with
what He is doing at SCS enabled the school to
provide students the academic prowess, spiritual
grounding, and interpersonal skills they need to
thrive in a complex and complicated world.
Enjoy reading more about how SCS has prepared
graduates for life in the alumni stories that are
included in this issue of the Scepter.
Just as those that blazed the trail before us
innovated practices, we are being called to bring
renewed clarity and focus to our programs and
facilities so our faculty can be fully prepared to
support Christian families and students in the
second decade of this new century.
We are calling this renewed focus Vision 2022.
Stay tuned to hear more about the academic,
facility, and programmatic elements of Vision 2022
in the months ahead.
Thank you for praying and joining with us as we
respond to God’s ongoing call to fully prepare
students for life!
Gratefully yours,

Laird Leavitt

“What I love about SCS Performing Arts is the sense of community within it. I’ve been in

choir at SCS since I was in 5th grade, and I’m now going into senior year

with an ever-growing love and passion for performing arts.

SCS has made choir feel more like a family than just a class, and it brings

me such joy being a part of it!” – Alaina, SCS Junior

This spring, Miss Pierotti, Mrs. Simmons, Mr. Smith,
high school student counselors, and parent volunteers
traveled to Whidbey Island with 29 fifth graders. The
group continued to learn and grow outside of the tradi-
tional classroom setting to experience Outdoor Educa-
tion at Camp Casey. The four-day excursion is special
for the students as they’re able to strengthen relation-
ships with each other and their teachers. For families,
this change of environment is unique and is treasured
throughout their students’ SCS experience. During
their time at camp, they went on meadow walks, held
class by a campfire, and participated in beach activi-

ties such as a sea
lab class where they
learned about the
varieties of fish
species and were
even able to touch
starfish. Each night,
the group shared

Exploring the World of STEM

As opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
expand at SCS, middle schoolers took advantage of a unique hands-on learning
opportunity in the construction of a cardboard chair. This fun and yet challenging
STEM project unfolded elements of creativity, teamwork and collaboration as students
were introduced to concepts of designing and
building a cardboard chair with only corrugated “I really enjoyed getting to

projects. STEM groups celebrated success as they made 24 chairs collectively from approximately 80 pieces of cardboard.

making an impact!

Our year of reflection is the celebration of God’s abundant blessings in student success, dedicated faculty and a generous
community. As graduates proudly crossed the stage during Commencement, they represented excellence in academics,
leadership, activities and athletics and exemplified expressions of compassion and hearts of service, all fostered through
their SCS experience.

As our fiscal year comes to a close, we thank you -- faithful parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty and friends – for the
many ways you have supported SCS. Gifts given through the Annual Auction and Golf Tournament, as well as financial
support to vital academic and co-curricular programs, have been instrumental to the vital ministry of fully serving and
equipping SCS students.

Your gift to Seattle Christian School will make a profound difference! These contributions will aid in student learning,
expanded resources, program enhancements and provide a true partnership with each student on their personal, academic
and spiritual journeys.

Thank you for joining us in this important endeavor! We are humbled by your continued prayers and commitment to
students and their remarkable SCS education.
