Zara's camp recount

Camprecount-Zara

Camp
Rotorua

2016

By Zara

“Come on Zara are you ready?”
Tayler asked. Butterflies stumbled
around in my stomach as I sat
nervously in the small midnight
black go kart ready to race down
the mountain side.
“Okay go.” The instructor called as
he tapped me on the back. I pulled
back the handles slowly then off I
went. A rush of excitement ran
down my spine as I was speeding
through the tree filled race course.
I leaned to the left and the go cart
followed. A million thoughts were

racing through my mind. What if I
fall? What if someone crashes into
me? Taylor had sped off ahead but
before long I had caught up to her.

“Come on Zara, catch up!” Tayler
called while I had turned to find
Mia but she wasn't there. I turned
back to look for Tayler and I didn't
see the next corner I tried to turn
but I was too late, I had gone off
the track. I got out of the cart
slowly and attempted to pull it back
on to the track it took a while but I

did it… Eventually I sat back and
wedged my feet in I pulled back
the handle bars but it wouldn't
budge. I leaned over and pushed
with my hands while pulling back
the handlebars and it started to
move very slowly. But it wouldn't go
any faster. (Lucky I was close to
the bottom)

After my second time round it was
then time for the jelly bean
factory! As soon as I walked in the
door you could smell the sweetness

of the Jellybeans. There were
sculptures and art pieces made of
jelly beans, which filled the room.
It was amazing. There were Piles
Mountains even of Jellybeans. It
looked amazing. Tayler and I got a
cherry lollipop and the bean
boozled challenge and (it was
horrible) Mrs Taylor had to eat dog
food and a rotten egg flavoured
jelly bean it was not very pleasant.

Later that day, once everybody had
had their turn, it was time to go

back down the gondola. I was not
looking forward to it especially
because my group was yelling and
screaming most of the way up it
was so noisy. My group piled into
the gondola excitedly waiting for
our ride to start. Lucky we had a
parent come with us this time. But
they still screamed almost the
whole way down it was pretty
annoying, but the worst thing is
they wouldn't stop! And Tanika
kept on saying its goanna fall, we’re

gonna die which did put you off a
little.

The luge was so much fun and it
was a bit sad it was over so quick
but we still had the rest of camp to
look forward too.

“On your marks get set go!” Yelled
Mr O as we ran into the maze. we
got lost so many times and were
going backwards, forwards and I'm
pretty sure we were just going
around in circles for a lot of the

time. Lucy, Abby and I were stuck
trying to find red Abby ran in one
direction and Lucy and I ran the
other way to try finding it and sure
enough we got lost and couldn't
find each other again. A little while
later we heard Abby.
“Zara where did you go” Abby
yelled
“I'm over here”
“Where's here?” I asked but by
that time she was already on the
other side of the maze, and had
already found blue, yellow and even

red. And I had still only found one
Colour! We should probably move a
bit faster I thought to myself.
“Come on Lucy we've got to move
faster!” I said not very
enthusiastically. What if we are
lost for a long time? What if we
can't find our way out? I thought.
But we carried on and kept
searching until we had finally made
it to red. Before we knew it we had
made it to yellow and found Abby
along the way. She showed us to
blue before disappearing yet again.

I felt better that we had actually
found a few colours and just
needed one more. Now all we had to
do was find green it took us a very
long time but we did eventually
make it out.
“Where have you been? You took
forever” The girls asked like we'd
been gone for years (although it
did feel that long) “We got lost
looking for green,” we told them.
But before long it was time to go
back to the camp to start getting
ready for the dinner!

When we arrived back at the camp
everyone threw there togs on and
rushed down to the lake like a herd
of elephants. While everyone was
down at the lake swimming, our
cabin used all the showers so we
wouldn't have to wait for everyone
else to finish later on. I got ready
put my hair up and threw on a pair
of Jeans and a top I did some of
the other girls hair then quickly
threw up mine. Then Mrs O came
over

“Time to go girls, go jump on the
bus!” We had just finished getting
ready for dinner.
“Just in time!” The girls laughed as
we all piled into the bus excitedly.

When we arrived at gengys we all
bunched up outside before rushing
in. Mr O talked to us then we all
rushed inside to pick a table. Then
Mr O started to let tables go up
one after another to get their
dinner there was a huge line! Then
it was our turn to go up we grabbed

a bowl and hopped in line Abby
stacked up a plate of just hot chips
and chicken then surprisingly ate
almost all of it. I just got chicken
and noodles with vegetables it
tasted pretty good.

After about an hour or so we went
and joined the table outside, they
were trying to skull glasses of
pepper water. It was disgusting!
But kind of entertaining. Then Mr
Smith came over and that was the
end of that.

Before long it was time to go back
to the camp when we arrived we
wrote up our diaries and had some
supper before bed. Between nine
thirty and ten it was time to go to
sleep. In our cabin we had
rearranged all the beds so we all
slept on the top part the
mattresses were lined up in a row
along the wall covered in bugs
trying to find the light, it was
pretty gross. We tried to clean
them up by shaking our duvets over

the railing but it was just making
them go everywhere. But we were
so tired we just forgot about the
bugs and fell asleep.

Camp was so much fun and a great
learning experience for everyone. I
especially liked the luge even
though I was quite nervous and
went really slow. But I did really
enjoy camp even though it went by
extremely fast. And can't wait for
my next one.
