CAMP

ROTOURA

2016

CAMP RECOUNT
DAY 1:
GOING TO CAMP
I woke up and leapt out of bed. I grabbed my
bags and sprinted to the dining room. I was so
excited for my second school camp, but this
time it was to Rotorua. I was thrilled to spend
the week with my friends (and get away from
my family). I through my stuff in the car and
rushed back inside to finish getting ready.

I was sitting in the car all ready to go. My dad
followed and jumped in the car with me, he then
drove me to school. As I sat in the car I felt as
bolt of excitement were traveling through my
body. Soon enough I was at school in the hall
with my friends, but now I needed to get
through the bus ride.

DAY 2:
LUGE

I sat in the small midnight black cart and I was
about to race down the tree filled mountain
side. I questioned myself whether to carry on
but it was too late to turn around. Then I
started, my stomach twisted and turned as
nervous thoughts ran through my mind. I was
soon moving and a rush of exhilaration ran
down my spine.

I then caught up with Natasha, we kept banging
into each other as if it was game. Every so
often we would look back and see if we could
see Chloe and Shikira, but they were nowhere
in sight. We carried on down the mountain
going extremely slow so they could catch up.
Finally we could see them, they were a few
metres behind us so we carried on with the
track. We then reached the end of the course. I
sat down on the ski lift with an excited hope the

next course would be better and it carried me
back to the start of the track for my second go.

I sat down in the black carts once more. I began
to move down the advanced course with Chloe,
Shikira and Natasha. I saw what was ahead, a
large turn on a sloped angle. Then out of
nowhere a scream, a scream loud enough to
make glass break. I looked around, I soon
released it was Natasha going around the
corner then Shikira, then Chloe, it was now my
turn. I began to turn as my stomach dropped to
what appeared to be the ground. It was over. A
sign of relief came over me as a stream of
exhilaration rushed through me, and with the
two emotions connecting I raced off going as
fast as I could as if on an adrenaline rush.

DAY 3:
3D MAZE

Chloe, Shea, Shikira, Mercy and I bolted into
the maze with a rush of excitement flowing
through our veins. We looked backwards and
forward even side to side to find our next
targeted base. We soon see it and sprint for it.
One base down 3 to go. We run up the stairs to
get a good view of the maze but it's covered by
walls. I look around and I have lost my team. I
run once more not knowing where to go, but
soon enough I find another. I then let out a sigh
of relief as I had found the other members in my
team again. Thankful they had found the other
two bases already so we could leave the maze
that is, if we could find a way out. We had been
running backwards and forwards with the twists
and turns plus being completely confused but
we finally made it out.

A single drop of sweat trickled from our
foreheads as we collapsed on the soft green
grass. Then we all jumped up and sprinted to
grab our ice cold water bottles from the bus. We
began to chug our water as we began to
breathe heavily between sips. We were all tired
and relieved to be out of the maze.

DAY 4:
RAINBOW SPRINGS

Chloe, Shea and I entered the park wide eyed
because we had eaten too much sugar that
morning. We were in a hyperactive state and
we were all super excited to go on the big
splash, see all the animals and see Hannah,
(she couldn’t come because she busted her
knee the Friday before camp and was put in
crutches).

First thing that happened was all the year 7&8’s
took a photo together, after that Shikira shouted

“HANNAH!!!” Almost everyone could see her.
We all ran to her and nearly tackled her to the
ground. Then Geoff (the bus driver) gave her a
black and silver wheelchair so she wouldn’t get
too tired from using the crutches all day. Soon
as everyone began to leave her alone it was
just Chloe, Abby, Shikira, Hannah and I, Abby
then brought out a small navy blue box that
contained a small gift which we had all helped
to pay for and gave it to Hannah, it was a small
transparent glass cow with black spots, white
horns and a pink nose. Hannah thanked all of
us and we carried on with our day.

We then looked at the animals, first it was the
colourful rainbow trout, we watched them swim
and most of us decided they needed to go on a
diet. Next it was the keas which were greener
than grass, we saw them crawling along the
dried up leaves in there cage. Then the small
brown ducks swimming in a little pond. And last
but not least the tuatara which was sitting on

were spinning and our stomachs had
disappeared.

DAY 5:
GOING HOME

We cleaned our cabin from top to bottom,
putting our stuff in our bags, vacuuming the
floor and fixing up the beds. Soon enough the
cabin was clean and we got on the bus to go
home. Not everyone wanted to leave but we
had to, to see our families and attend school
again which not many people were looking
forward to (well the school part anyway). We all
got on the bus and continued our trip home.

It was a great camp and everyone loved it. It
was a week no one will ever forget, unless they
get amnesia or something. But in all
seriousness it was a fantastic week and it was
amazing we could do it with our friends and
other classmates.
