Ella's camp recount

Camp
Rotorua
2016

By ella

“We're here! We're here! We're here!”
Yelled the overtired, yet exited, children.
“Sit down please!” Yelled Mr O over the bus
speakers. No child on that bus could settle
down. We were all very high on sugar!!!

After 8 gruelling hot hours, we finally made
it to Keswick Christian camp. The sun was
streaming through the windows of the bus.
All of us year 7&8 children were staying
there for a whole week. During the week we
were doing various activities like the luge,
Rotorua museum, Rainbow Springs and lots
more.

After a quick guide of the camp we got
released to our cabins. I was in a cabin with 5
other girls, Aliana, Zara, Tanika, Jodi and
Lucy. “Wow!” I said as I walked through the
large ranch sliders. Our cabin had 8 beds, 3
bedrooms and one main room with a table and

mirror. We were also 1 of 4 cabins that had
an upstairs but out of all the units we had
the cabin. Tayler Marshall came into our
cabin and said her whole cabin was smaller
than our main room and they had no upstairs!
Everyone seemed amazed by our cabin! “We
got it pretty good” I thought to myself

We were absolutely exhausted, long the long
bus ride. After we sorted out our sleeping
spots we headed over to the hall for dinner,
we had some beautiful roast chicken with
roast potatoes, carrots, corn and gravy.
Yum yum!

After dinner we called it a night. As I layer
in my bed staring at the White ceiling, I
thought to myself “This is going to be a great
week”
“Guys wake up it’s 7:00” We heard Ms Caddic
yell from our doorway

Multiple groans and sound were made but
eventually we got up got dressed and had
breakfast.
We packed our bags for the day. On Tuesday
we were going to the Agrodome sheep show
and the luge.

We jump on our big double decker bus and
away we went.
It was a beautiful sunny day, 25 degrees!
First we were heading to the Agrodome
sheep show.
We drove up the drive and saw about 10
buses full of tourists!
“Right, Maungatapere school!” Yelled Ms
Caddic “Against the wall!”

After all this noise, people were already
starting to stare. “Oh well” I thought This is
going to be a long week!” After giving each
child a big pink sticker (with a hat on it) we

were all ready to go! 1 hour later the show
had finished. The show was great! The host
was very funny. What i thought was cool as
he got the audience really involved in the
show. They even got some kids to go on
stage. They got every kind of sheep in new
zealand up on stage and told us all about it!

Now, it was lunch time. At breakfast every
day we made our own lunch and put it in a
chilly bin ready for the day. We all sat at the
table and started to chat while we were
waiting for our lunch.
Then we noticed something very strange,
some tourist started to take photo of
us.They did this for a while then they
stopped. We had some lunch then they
started to do it again but this time they
were coming up to us hugging s and posing in
front of us. I found this quite weird

considering that we were eating our lunch at
the time.
Anyway, next up was the luge!! We jump of
the bus and ran inside with so much
excitement and a bit of nervousness building
up inside of us! We jump in our gondola and
off we went. It was a tight fit but we
managed. We could see everything from the
blue listing lake to the pine trees climbing up
the mountain. We took so many photos the
whole way up! We grab our helmets and off
we went. Because i had never done it before
i had to go down the beginners track. After
the guy checked my brakes I was off! I
couldn't contain my excitement!

I very carefully zoomed down the track
aaron was close behind me. My heart was
thudding and the wind blew in my face heard
him yelled something out to me but I could
quite make out what he was saying. I noticed

that my helmet was slipping off on tried to
fix it, bad idea! I took my hands off for a
split second and it was split track I quickly
sruvied and narrowly missed the edge. By the
time I reached the bottom I was very scared
about the chair lift, but it turmed out to be
less scary then the big gondala part from
getting on and off where if you dont run you
will get run over.

The second time I went down the
intermediate group and it was awesome and
we rode back up again we had a look at the
gift shops then we headed down the gondola
but half way though it stopped and it let us
have some time to have a look at the
mountain bikers (there was a competition the
next day) do some cool tricks like back flips
jumps off ramps it was awesome!

Once we returned home we were absolutely
naked. We were all ready for bed (ecspecily
the adults!) Camp Rotorua was one of the
best weeks of my life I had awesome people
in my cabin and so much fun at all the
activities. I wish every week we spent it
down in Rotorua and come back up north in
the weekends! It was the one of the best
weeks of my life. I will allways have
fantacstic
memories.
