A. OBJECTIVES

By participating in the KEM PROGRAM MOTIVASI KECEMERLANGAN TAHUN
6 2016, a SUPERKID should be able to :

1. Understand clearly the new format of the UPSR English Language paper for
the year 2016.

2. Know the importance of time management and prepare an effective study
time-table;

3. Plan strategic and systematic mode of study;
4. Develop the ability to think skilfully;
5. Have confidence to use the English language accurately and in different

social situations.

ENGLISH Paper UPSR New Format 2016

B. FORMAT

The English Language UPSR paper for 2016 will be based on the new format
introduced this year. The paper will be accessed through two paper, namely
Paper 1 Pemahaman (Kertas 013) and Paper 2 Penulisan (Kertas 014)
beginning 2016.

Paper 1 Pemahaman (Kertas 013)

Paper 1 is a 1 hour and 15 minutes comprising 2 sections; Section A and
Section B. There are 25 questions in this paper. The total marks for Paper 1 is
50 marks.

Section A

Total number of questions 20 (MCQ)

Types of questions Candidates must answer questions on
grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and
one reading comprehension.

Candidates must choose the best answer
from the multiple-choice of answers given
(A, B, C and D).

Marks 20

Section B 5
Total number of questions
Types of questions Candidates must answer questions on
Social expressions and three reading
Marks comprehension.

The types of questions range from
various forms of objective questions,
matching, true or false, and limited
response.

Paper 2 Penulisan (Kertas 014)

Paper 2 is a 1 hour and 15 minutes comprising 3 sections; Section A, Section B and
Section C. There are 3 questions in this paper. The total marks for Paper 1 is 50
marks.

Section A

Total number of questions 1
Types of questions
Candidates are given a picture with some short notes
as stimulus.

Candidates must complete the text using the short
notes given.

Marks 10

Section B

Total number of questions 1(Part i and Part ii)
Types of questions Candidates are given non-linear texts as stimulus.

Part i
Candidates must answer the question based on the
stimulus given.

Part ii
Candidates must write a short composition between
50-80 words based on the stimulus given.

Marks 15

Section C

Total number of questions 1
Types of questions
Candidates are given a choice of 2 questions.
Candidates must answer only 1 question.

Candidates must write a composition between 80-
100 words based on the stimulus given.

TIPS ON WRITING UPSR New Format 2016
SECTION B
(15 marks)

Non-linear texts as stimulus
B (i): Candidates must answer the question based on the stimulus given.
B (ii): Candidates must write a short composition between 50-80 words based
on the stimulus given.

Tips on answering:
Section B (i) :
a) Study the question carefully. (brochure, poster, leaflet (risalah),

Advertisement (iklan), route map, notice, table, time-table and others)
b) Get the main ideas/points/information
c) List out/ write the answer in the spaces provided.
d) Make sure your answer/choices/suggestion/points are related.
e) Write the correct information.
h) Make sure ‘RM’, ‘%’ and other symbols are written in proper way.

Section B (ii)
- read the instruction carefully.
- Actually, the question will ask you to write (formal letter, informal letter,
personalised/greeting card, note, notice, post card, short message or an E-
mail) either to your friends, pen-pal, family members, class teacher, Club Advisor,
headmaster/headmistress and other department.
Example :

a) Write an E-mail to your aunt informing her about the sale and tell her about
at least three sections that might interest her.

b) Write a note to your friend giving a detailed description to guide him/her to
the stadium.

c) Write a letter for him/her, telling him/her about at least three uses of the
coconut tree.

d) Write a formal letter to your headmaster, asking permission and RM200.00
budget for the programme.

m) Thing you need : I am sure you already have all the equipment needed.

o) Benefits : I am sure if you made this choice, you will learn many good things.

SECTION C
( 25 marks )
Candidates are given a choice of 2 questions. Candidates must answer only 1
question. Candidates must write a composition between 80-100 words based on the
stimulus given.
Writing composition based on given graphics.
- Read the instruction carefully. This section consists of two questions. Answer one
question only.
- Pay attention and identify the graphics given to gather information based on:
a) Subject – names and pronouns
b) Theme : story, Incident, process or facts, events, activities
c) Time Frame (Rangka Masa) : Present Tense or Past Tense
- After that, find out the keywords (words beside the graphics) to get the
information/terms below:
a) Subject
b) Verbs
c) Nouns
d) Adjectives
- Verbs are very important in writing, especially when you want to construct our
sentences. For example : went, jumped, played, was, did etc. so your story must
be in past tense and followed by time-frame in the past, example : last week,
yesterday, during the school holidays.
If the time-frame is already given, not necessary to added the other time-frame
again.
- Candidates must identify the related subject in the story. This is because it will help
or guide them to use the correct pronouns in constructing sentences.
Example : Ali – He, Siti – She, The cat – It, Ali and his friend – They, My
family and I – We.

- Candidates must understand and know how to use the correct term of nouns,
adjectives or adverb in the keywords given.

WRITING
- Tips on writing composition:

a) Introduction: 1 to 2 sentences.
b) Contents
c) Closing/closure

INTRODUCTION :
Present tense form, EXAMPLE : Siti and Aminah are good friends and neighbours.
They always play games and revise their lessons together.

CONTENT :
Past tense form, starting with past tense (time frame), EXAMPLE: One Saturday
evening, Siti went to Aminah’s house to play congkak as it is their hobby. While
playing they heard a bell ringing outside the house……….
CLOSURE:
EXAMPLE: From this story, it is learnt that Siti is a kind hearted girl.
