1. Introduction

We live in a world driven by technology. Scarcely
anyone would argue with you if you said this.
Almost everything we do daily needing to
technology. We need technology for studying,
working, cooking, and even sleeping. And even
some of us claim that technology is one of human’s
basic needs. It means that technology is essential
not only the human yet for all living things.

2. How to define technology?

Technology is the application of scientific
knowledge for practical purposes, especially in
industry. It’s also can be defined as machinery
and equipment developed from the application
of scientific knowledge and the branch of
knowledge dealing with engineering or applied
sciences.

quote

"Technology is a useful servant
but dangerous master”

This quote comes from a Nobel Prize
acceptance speech written by the
winner, Christian Lange in the 1920s.
Christian Lous Lange was a
Norwegian historian,

teacher, and political scientist. He was one of the
world's foremost exponents of the theory and practice of
internationalism. Though, the quote has nothing to do
with people overusing the technology.

Christian Lange was particularly concerned about
isolationist, militarized governments that spent a lot of
money on military technology.

When he talked about technology as a master, he
doesn’t mean people using technology like smartphones
instead of going outside to do physical activities, yet he was
talking about military technology being used by
governments as a tool to oppress their citizens.

4. Technology is a useful servant

Technology is changing the way we live our lives. How
does technology be our useful servant? It’s when we found
out that technology assists us very much in a certain
circumstance or solves our problems in some way. We
relish in the stress release as we battle it out in computer
games (Oglethorpe, 2015). Children, teens, and even
adults have stress but in differing ways. In this
circumstance, technology plays a role as entertainment to
humans. Playing games via computer, laptop, and
cellphone can help us to deal with the tension. Live needs
some entertainment too and not merely about doing the
obligations as human.




Today’s agriculture routinely uses sophisticated
technologies such as traction engines and steam tractor
technology. By using advanced machines, it is possible to
control the efforts of farmers, increase workers' safety
and reduce the time input of the farmer(Riella,2019).
While machines are useful in sowing the seeds, they can
also be used as transportations for the farmers. These
advanced devices and precision agriculture allow
businesses to be more profitable, efficient, and more
environmentally friendly.

Technology is used from the most severe case to the
simplest medical case. Technological advancement is always
present and undisputable. In recent years there have been
many groundbreaking advancements in technology in
healthcare such as robotic surgery. It adds precision, and
flexibility to a surgeon’s hands to operate as non-invasively
as possible to a patient and allows making certain operations
easier or even possible(Bouronikos,2020).

5. Technology is a dangerous master

When does the technology be the master?
It may have happened if we misuse it and
face the negative effects. Whenever we use
our cellphone, it is tough to put them away.
We keep scrolling and checking out social
media without realizing that we have wasted
too much time on it. This problem is not only
faced by the youngster, but even the adults
also doing the same. In other cases, some
children skip their mealtime in order to
finish their game.

On the other hand, some people become

depressed at witnessing others' posts on

social media (Oglethorpe, 2015).Every

meaningful moment in our live must be

captured as memories and post them in our

lives on social media. Nevertheless, as human

beings, some people are envious of others’

happiness. They will assume that the people

who keep showing their happiness are trying

to brag for themselves. The most terrible thing

is if they are exaggerating the issues, spilling

the tea, slandering, and even giving offending

comments.

Many sorts of technology, from computers
to televisions to automobiles, cause people to
take a seat for the majority of their day. This
constant sitting might be dangerous to a
person’s health(Ripon,2020) as they can gain
weight if the routine continues for a long
period. Besides, our eyesight also can get
worse. Facing an electronic screen in a dark
place is harmful to our eyesight too.

6. Deduction

There are more advantages of technology,
however, there are always advantages and

disadvantages for a thing. Technology
changed our life so much. Our life became
more convenient because technology is a
very useful tool for us in the 21st century, it
could help us to improve our life. However,
we have to be aware of how we use them. If
we could use the technology smartly, having
advanced technology will become a good

change for us.
