Impacting Lives Through Vision Therapy.

Can Your Child Pass this Test?

Does Your Child:

Have trouble reading? Have difficulty with spelling?
Work slowly?
Have a short attention span when reading? Misalign digits in number columns?
Confuse left & right?
Omit numbers, letters, or phrases? Repeatedly confuse words with similar
beginnings & endings?
Have poor handwriting?

Rubs his/her eyes frequently?

If you checked any of these symptoms, it is a sign that your child may have an
undiagnosed vision problem. Please call us today to schedule an appointment.
It could make all the difference!

There’s more to healthy vision than 20/20 eyesight!

FOOD + NUTRITION

The Benefits Of

apples...

The season of transition from summer to winter is a favorite time for many. The humidity of summer
gives way to the cool breezes of fall and orchards are in full bloom with a delicious variety of apples.
Apples are one of the most popular fruits in the world, and it's no surprise that they are good for you
– it's earned the “keep the doctor away” reputation after all. However, there are many lesser-known
nutritional reasons to make apples a part of your regular diet.

Apples help keep you full longer thanks to the wealth of fiber they contain. Even better, they do this
without costing you too many calories – about 95 in a medium sized fruit. Our bodies take much
longer to digest complex fiber than more simple ingredients like sugar or refined grains. People should
aim to get 25-40 grams of fiber per day. There is about 4 grams of fiber in a medium sized apple.

The fiber in apples can also help lower your cholesterol. Of the 4 grams of fiber in an apple, some of it
is in the form of pectin, a type of soluble fiber that has been linked to lower levels of LDL cholesterol,
or “bad” cholesterol. Pectin blocks the absorption of cholesterol, allowing the body to use it, rather
than store it.

RECIPE

Homemade Apple Sauce

• 4 apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)
• 3/4 cup water
• 1/4 cup white sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions: In a saucepan, combine apples, water, sugar, and
cinnamon. Cover, and cook over medium heat for 15 to 20
minutes, or until apples are soft. Allow to cool, then mash
with a fork or potato masher. This makes 4 servings.
