Water Conservation and Inter -
Linking of Rivers in Andhra Pradesh

(Save Water-Save Life)

Water is one of the most essential and critical Water Conservation:
elements on earth that supports life and survival.
It is the most benevolent endowment that any Water Conservation Mission is one of the seven
organism has got and it needs to be conserved as it Missions of the state of Andhra Pradesh.
is identified as a limited resource. The ecological The Government has introduced
imbalances have caused irregular and insufficient
rainfall year after year. Water scarcity can cause Neeru-Chettu,
issues varying from the ones related to health to Neeru-Pragathi, &
the economy and thus is important to conserve the
clean or potable water. Nadula

Anusamdhanam

Neeru Pragathi (Water and

Development):

The Government has identified the fact that without
preserving the water resources the state cannot prosper.
Under Neeru-Pragathi programme the Government of
Andhra Pradesh extends

Financial support to farmers to take up

• Construction of ponds on the fields
• desilting of tanks and ponds
• repairs of check-dams,
• other water preserving systems.

Neeru-Chettu (Water and

Trees):

• to make Andhra Pradesh a 'draught proof'
state within 5 years.

• to promote water conservation and water
management and improvement of green
cover

• Plantation in open areas, on canal banks,
community spaces and government offices
so as to develop the state into Harithandhra
'Green Andhra'.

• to eradicate poverty and avoid economic
inequalities.

Nadula Anusamdhanam
(Inter-Linking of Rivers):

The 50 year old dream of interlinking of
Godavari and Krishna, the two major rivers of
Andhra Pradesh state has come true as the
surplus waters of Godavari gushed through
the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project to the
river Krishna.
The diverted water will be stored at
Prakasam barrage and utilized for paddy
cultivation in 7 lakh acres of fields in Krishna
basin of Andhra Pradesh.
Inflow of surplus waters into the lower
Krishna region will definitely minimize the
burden on upper river regions so that the
later regions will have more water for their
use.
The project is a panacea for all woes of the
farmers in this region.

Future Projects:

• The Govt of AP is also proposing to inter-link Godavari-Krishna and Penna rivers so as to
meet the water needs of Rayalaseema region and Prakasam districts.

• The Government has given assurance of relief and rehabilitation packages to the villages
which are likely to be submerged due to interlinking of rivers.

• All the innovative programmes introduced by the Honorable Chief Minister Sri N.Chandra
Babu Naidu will embark on the path of development and will become one of the best states in
India in next 5 years.
The honourable Chief Minister Sri N.Chandra Babu Naidu has given clarion call to all the
citizens of AP to participate in conservation of Water resources. Water should be preserved
for the purpose of cultivation, drinking and industry. Though the state of Andhra Pradesh has
been striving to preserve maximum quantity of water, there is lot of deficit of water. Hence,
the issue must be discussed thoroughly among the public and the intellectuals

05 Vidya - Skill Development

Developing Skills is True Education

True education lies in developing skills. Skill development is the process of identifying the skills and skill
gaps, and developing and sharpening these skills. It is important because skills determine one’s ability to
successfully execute plans. Observe this in the given situations below.

Ø Ravi has sound knowledge of programming. However his slow typing makes it difficult for him
to retain the job that he is in.

Ø Yamini a final year B.tech student is ill equipped with programming and report writing. She
manages her project submission of Project by buying the project.

Ø Even with a diploma in paramedical field Shafi could not get a job as he has not been able to
handle the equipment in the medical laboratories.

What is it that these youngsters, inspite of their qualifications, need to succeed in their chosen
path? Yes, skills!

What are skills?

Imagine a carpenter who does not have good working tools. Without the right tools like a hand saw, he
can’t turn the raw materials into a beautiful house. Just as the right tools are needed to build a house,
right skills are essential in building success.

Hard skills:

Skills relating to any specific task
ü Subject knowledge
ü Certification like a doctor, Lawyer
ü Technical skills like handling a

machine or lab equipment
ü Fluency in English
ü Skills in some software
ü Cycling, driving….

Soft skills:

Skills relating to personality
ü communication
ü leadership
ü time management
ü stress management
ü decision making
ü adaptability
ü ability to deal with adversity
ü Networking…

Observe your own skills, plan to acquire the necessary new ones and
sharpen the present ones.

06 Physical Literacy

Physical literacy… know and be fit

Physical Literacy is mastering of fundamental movement skills that permits one to read their
environment and make appropriate decisions, allowing one to move confidently and with control in a
wide range of physical activity situations. Physical Literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical
competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical
activities for life.

Sustained Efforts of the “Physical Literacy gathering fantastic momentum in
Govt. of A.P Andhra Pradesh, India.” reports International Physical
Literacy Association (IPLA). The honourable Chief
Minister Sri. N. Chandra Babu Naidu, with his vision for
the youngsters of the state, has shown keen interest in
physical fitness of the youth of the state. The State of
Andhra Pradesh entered into an MOU with Sport for Life
Society, a Canadian organization. 800 physical education
teachers from Andhra Pradesh received physical
education training as well as an introduction to physical
literacy. Training these many physical education teachers
is a first of its kind in India. Its success has now attracted
interest from central government with talks to potentially
roll out this project across the whole of India.

09 Double Digit Growth

TWO DIGIT DEVELOPMENT Raithu kosam!!!

The vision of our Honourable Chief Minister is Double Digit Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)
growth through Primary sector. This, under NITI Aayog is to fight against poverty for the
comprehensive development of Swacha Andhra Pradesh and transform it as the number one state of
the country by 2029. It targets to achieve double digit growth rate of 15% by 2016-17. It is a new
innovative path of development by moving away from the “business as usual approach”, and to
introduce an intensive “mission mode” approach that will speed up the growth process.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh as part of
Swarnandhra Vision-2029 has constituted seven
Missions namely:
1) Primary Sector
2) Social Empowerment
3) Knowledge and Skill Development
4) Urban Development
5) Industries /Manufacturing
6) Infrastructure
7) Service Sector

Primary Sector Mission/ Raithu Kosam is the pioneer out of the
seven missions and its mission is:

· the Government of Andhra Pradesh is committed to transform the primary
sector into an equitable, scientific, and prosperous and climate smart sector.

· the State has designed a strategy to transform the agriculture and allied
sectors in Partnership with International Crops Research Institute for Semi
-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).with a focus on:

(a) Increasing productivity of the primary sector
(b) Mitigating the impact of droughts through water conservation and micro- irrigation
(c) Post-harvest management to reduce the wastage
(d) Establishment of processing value addition capacity and supply chain of the identified crops

DOUBLE DIGIT GROWTH

· the state has identified 7 Missions, 5 Grids and embarked on 5 campaigns.

· It is linked with improvement in soil fertility, better seed, reducing the

cost of cultivation, productivity enhancement and value addition

· in the agriculture, horticulture, livestock and fisheries subsectors.

Why double digit growth in primary sector?

PRODUCTION– PROFIT – SUSTAINABILITY

· to develop the primary sector to reduce poverty
· to establish seed production systems in the region as well as good

horticultural systems.

Internet is important for a huge variety of reasons and it affects and facilitates nearly all aspects of
modern life. It has enormous impact on the fields of education, health, industry etc and it makes life
easier.

· In this era of cut throat competition if I pose a question: Could you live without technology? Obviously
your answer might be “NO” because of the explosive entry of technology into everyday life. It has
changed the way how people live, work, how companies do their business and how governments serve
their people. With the help of IT, governments are realizing that they can achieve transformation by
applying technologies that are fueling e- business revolution. The result is the emergence of e-
governments which have become a popular focus of government efforts in many countries across the
globe. In our country, as a part of realizing the vision of e-governance our Prime Minister Shri.
Narendra Modi launched Digital India campaign to improve digital literacy in the citizens of our nation.

11 Arogyam (Health)

'Health is Wealth'

Our ancestors gave a lot importance to health because as the adage says 'Health is Wealth'. One can be
very rich but that does not ensure happiness if one does not have good health. Happiness therefore lies
only in being healthy. Today most of us complain of some illness. It's time for us to examine our life style
and make necessary changes to take care of our health.

What is 'health'?

“..a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease
or infirmity.”
(The most commonly quoted definition of health formalized by the World Health Organization (WHO)
over half a century ago.)
The Meaning of Health…
Physical Fitness
Eating healthy food
Exercising regularly
Drinking pure water
Mental Wellbeing
Connecting with others
Ÿ Being active
Ÿ Learning ever
Ÿ Empathizing with others

Tips for Good Health

Ÿ Do physical exercise regularly like playing games, jogging, walking, Yoga etc.,
Ÿ Do meditation for mental relaxation
Ÿ Abstain from drugs and alcohol
Eat healthy in terms of quantity and quality. Food nourishes both the body and mind,
offering the nutrition required for keeping the whole self energized and functioning at
its best.

Exercising improves
muscle strength, which
gives a person more
energy.

“I believe that the greatest gift you can give your family and the
world is a healthy you.”

Industries for a Golden Future!
… Redefining Growth in the Sunrise State

Industrial development is important for economic growth. The new state after bifurcation suffered major

technology and economy through setting up of industries. He has envisaged that coalition of industries
will help us fight against poverty and unemployment and will fill the hearts of the people of Andhra
Pradesh with a new hope, self-confidence and also a sense of self-reliance. Our government is striving
hard to make the state an ‘investment destination’. Let’s read and come to know about the vision our
Government has for our State in detail:.
