DLM 03 Developing print-based Learner’s Guide including all related documents
Notes Format of Learner’s Guide
Course: 3D Animation NCIII
Unit of competency: CREATE INTERACTIVE SEQUENCE USING AUTHORING TOOL
Module: At the end of the session, learners should be able to:
Learning outcomes: 1. Plan use of authoring tool
2. Use authoring tools
Duration: 3. Check the functionality of multimedia sequence
Situating Learning: 80 hrs
You are the 3D Animator in PIXAR company; you discussed the part of
storyboard to the concerned personnel in animation cinema with Art director.
And they found out that some of the line, and the format will not run in other
personal computer and the other relevant materials that we need in
authoring.
To ensure that, the Art Director is given a task to the 3DAnimator to do an
authoring based on the storyboard that will discuss by the other relevant
personnel; to perform this good animation, they gave a time frame limit to
create of good commercial design. As a 3D animator, you must have criteria
on how to use different software in authoring tools.
The 3D Animator must perform these:
- He/she must know the file format.
- Knowing the script and range of authoring.
- Facing of the images in Storyboard outline
- Limits of time / dimension
- layout drawing/model sheets
The 3D animator must produce the good design within 10 days. 10 days is
enough to plan and study the script in storyboard outline and perform the
authoring tool. You have to present this to the Art Director, and the other
relevant personnel concerned. If everybody agree with the presented
animation in authoring tool, the Art Director will give you a recommendation,
to promote you to become the fulltime staff in PIXAR (animation company)
Assessment Criteria: 1. Range of authoring tools and their application to various multimedia projects
are identified and discussed with relevant personnel.
2. Purpose, scope, storyboard and design of multimedia projects are discussed
with relevant personnel.
3. The technical requirements of the multimedia project and use of authoring
program are discussed with relevant personnel
4. Use tools and features of software relevant to the authoring process
5. Create a new file for the specified task and name appropriately
6. Multimedia components are imported into the authoring tool.
7. Design principles are applied to the screen design and layout.
8. Screen and layout are designed according to creative production
requirements and technical specifications.
9. Buttons and other interactive elements are created.
10. All components are linked according to storyboard.

Information Sheet 2.1.1: Identifying various application in authoring tools
Learning outcomes:
1 Plan Use of Authoring Tool
Learning Activity:
2.1 Identify the range of authoring tool, various multimedia projects and relevant
personnel.
Authoring tool is a software package which developers use to create and package content
of 3D Animation for delivery to end users to produce a multimedia projects and forms into
interactive sequence. Plan use of authoring tools is important to create Interactive
Sequence. The content must be integrating and describing in digital media including:
Text
Audio
Video
Images
Animations
The ranges of tools are corporate in Audio-Visual Presentations, Online Gaming, Computer
Simulation, Webpage Design and E-learning. Authoring tool is always discussed with
relevant personnel to cope the storyboard layout and the technical requirements should be
use in authoring program to maintain design integrity, the color theory, the dimension of the
screen. Trainers to integrate an array of media to create professional, engaging, interactive
training content, and make use of digitized media assets, method of techniques to design
the composition, framing, facing and timing of the sequence of life drawing to animated
characters.
Range of Authoring tools –
Dreamweaver, Authoring Works4
and Adobe Flash are designing
the presentation of 3D animation
by providing the greater control
directly to the 3D Multimedia
projects use on the business
sector particularly for marketing
and academic. This range of
authoring software it will helps a
lot to animator on how they
present a good media and it is
design to create rich media
courses containing text plus
images, animations, audio and

Information Sheet 2.1.1: Identifying various application in authoring tools
Dreamweaver offers the Course builder extension that allows the addition of testing to Web
pages in an eLearning application. Animations can be done in Flash, making for a very
flexible and usable product that can be delivered via the Internet or on a CD-ROM.
Sometimes Director is used instead of Flash, because of its program language capabilities.
Other Authoring Tools:
1. Adobe Flash – (formerly Macromedia Flash) is a multimedia platform used to add
animation, video, and interactivity to Web pages. Flash is frequently used for
advertisements and games.
2. Toon Boom Animate Pro - is a Canadian software company, which specializes in
animation production software. Toon Boom develops animation and storyboarding
software for film, television, web animation, games, mobile devices, and training
applications.
3. Slide Show Software - A presentation program is a computer software package used
to display information, normally in the form of a slide show. It typically includes three
major functions: an editor that allows text to be inserted and formatted, a method for
inserting and manipulating graphic images and a slide-show system to display the
content.

Storyboard
Describing and reviewing scope of
storyboard (called 'technical pre-
visualization'). The script should be
described in storyboards to show
exactly what the camera will use and
can be constructed using animation
programs or digital puppets within 3D
programs. Some programs have a
collection of low resolution 3D figures
which can aid in the process.
Design Integrity:
A project and the client has made a list of demands that will surely result in a total design is
good and cleared enough the scope that describe in storyboard approved by the Art
Director. Designers are still makes the rule. Translation with the client makes the final
decisions if the presented media design is better than the other. The design integrity is must
be maintain by a balance of graphics and sequencing the scene.

Balance of graphics and sequencing the scene by pacing the story.
Pacing and sequence of scene can also affect the perception of mass of an object. A
heavier object takes a greater force and a longer time to accelerate and decelerate
Framing
Frame varies, depending on the still film format or the motion picture. In the smallest 8 mm amateur
format for motion pictures film, it is only about 4.8 by 3.5 mm, while an IMAX frame is as large as
69.6 by 48.5 mm. The larger the frame size is in relation to the size of the projection screen, the
sharper the image will appear.
