WHERE TO MEET SINGLE GUYS ON CAMPUS
Everyone thinks fraternities and house parties are the go-to spot for meeting guys
on campus, but you don’t have to attend every social event to ind your perfect match. It’s possible that the man of your dreams could be right under your nose. Here are ive great places to meet guys on campus and some tips to help initiate the conversation.
Starbucks
If you are a coffee lover then you probably go to Starbucks multiple times a week. Although it tends to get busy at times, there is no better place to approach your crush. Whether he is studying at one of the tables, or waiting in line, you will be sure to catch his eye. If he is at a distance, usually a simple smile will do the trick. If he is next to you in line, compliment him. As much as girls love it, guys do too. A subtle comment about his style or interests will show him that you are easy to talk to without over doing it.
Holcomb Gardens
Of course the gym always seems like a great place to look for single guys, especially when they are working out and showing off their muscles. The hard part about the gym though, is that almost everyone listens to music while working out. The better choice is to workout outside in the fresh air or take a stroll to Holcomb Gardens. When the warm weather hits, men will be right there with you relaxing and enjoying the sunshine.
Class
Even as a senior, approaching an attractive guy in your class can be overwhelming at times. How do you go from talking about only school to showing him that you are interested? One of the best and easiest ways do this is by simply asking him if he wants to grab coffee or food before or after your next class to go over the course material. By meeting up at a public place it makes the situation less tense and also allows you to get to know each other outside of a classroom setting.
Basketball game
It is hard sometimes when you are so focused on the game that you forget to think about all the single men sitting around you. If you are going to watch a sports game, it shows that you guys already have something in common-an interest in basketball or school spirit. No matter where you are sitting or standing you can always start a conversation by asking him how many game’s hes been to, or what other sports teams hes interested in. By showing him that you are into sports, it will allow him to see more of your personality. This initial conversation will help lead to future interactions you will have with him around campus.
Dining Hall
Believe it or not, Atherton Union and C-Club are both hot spots for meeting single men. Why? Where there is food, there is boys. Whether you are grabbing a bite to eat or just passing through, chances are the crowd of men will always be different. If you catch a glimpse of a guy who seems friendly and outgoing before you order try asking him what he recommends. Trust me it doesn’t matter what kind of food it is he’ll be more than happy to give you advice. Regardless of his response, you will make yourself seem more approachable and interested without even noticing it.

ONE LITTLE WISH AT A TIME
Liz Niemiec, founder of the Little Wish Foundation.
fffffff
When you irst meet Liz Niemiec she appears to be an average 22 year old, attending Butler and working part-time at Christel House International, a children’s charity based in Indianapolis. She is anything but average. This full-time student has raised over $450,000 to help grant little wishes to kids with cancer. It
all started at the age of 17, when her ifth grade teacher’s Russian adopted son, Max, died from a rare type of kidney cancer. Towards the end of Max’s battle he asked for one thing, a dog. Despite the doctor’s concerns, Max’s parents got him one. During Max’s last few days battling cancer Liz was able to see irst-hand how happy Max truly was because of his dog. “That seven year old changed my life. Max made me realize it’s the little things in life that mean the most.” It was when Liz left his funeral that she told her mom she wanted to help kids like Max. “My mom could’ve brushed off my dream, but she didn’t. She believed in me when no one else did.” After completing the necessary paperwork for the 501(c)3 non-proit organization, Little Wish was established in 2010. This foundation grants small wishes to children battling cancer, putting smiles on their faces during this dificult time.
Each little wish request is sent in by each child’s social worker and ranges from $300-$800. With all the medical expenses it is sometimes hard for families to afford any extra expenses. “There’s nothing I would rather be doing in my spare time then helping those kids.”
Over the past ive years the Little Wish Foundation has skyrocketed, granting
approximately 500 little wishes to kids all over the United States. Niemiec says it is surreal that her dream has become a reality. In March 2015, Liz appeared on The Real, a daytime talk show, where Boost Mobile gave her $10,000 to help support the foundation.
So what’s next for this Butler student and her foundation? After graduation, Liz will work full-time to grow the foundation. “I have had so much love and support from everyone, especially Lids.” Lids has recently partnered with the Little Wish Foundation giving the foundation $100,000. “Right now I am just trying to inish my Arts Administration degree and enjoy the last few months I have at Butler. I am excited for the future and Little Wish and am thankful everyday that I am able to help others, even if it is in a small way.”

SPEED BUMP
A Butler University woman opens up about her experience being in an abusive relationship.
It was beginning of my junior year at Butler when I decided I was ready to be in my first serious relationship. Up until that point, I spent my first two years casually dating guys with the mindset that I just wanted to be single. One night I was mutually introduced to a guy through a good friend of mine. As the days and weeks went on we started to hangout more and more, both in groups and alone. Our personalities meshed so well together, we started dating and things were great for the first couple of months - just like any relationship should be. After this great beginning, things took a turn for the worst. Before I knew it, my friends brought it to my attention that I had stopped spening quality time with them. I was putting our relationship before everything and would do anything to please him. He continued to reassure me that he loved me and that my friends were just jealous of all the new memories we were making together. I totally blocked out my friends and trusted him that in the end everything would be worth it.
The first time that I really started to doubt his trust was when he got into an altercation with
one of my friends. He ended up pushing her down on the cement in front of a large group of people.
I helped my friend get a ride home and comforted her all night to make sure she was okay. I was completely shocked by his actions, but knew if I sided with my friend he would breakup with me. I figured that it was just a bump in the relationship that would eventually blow over. I was wrong; this altercation was only the start of a downward spiral. He started experimenting with drugs. One drug
led to another and what started out as occasionally smoking weed turned into doing drugs and
drinking heavily almost every night. He started to become a different person and always took his anger and problems out on me. He would say whatever he wanted to and then blame the drugs for his actions. I figured that eventually he would grow up and stop doing drugs after he graduated, but that didn’t happen. One day we were riding in the car together when I had confronted him about his drug problem. When I confronted him he was livid and began screaming at me while speeding down the road. When I asked him to slow down that only infuriated him. As we came to a curve in the road, he put his foot to the pedal and lost control of the car. The car slid and we almost got in a head on collision with another car. I started to cry and demand that he let me out of the car. In the back of my mind I just thought it was another bump in the road and that eventually he would stop acting this way.
It wasn’t until a certain situation happened that I realized that I couldn’t be with him anymore regardless of how awful the breakup process would be. I had been nagging him to get a job and when he told me he had found one I was ecstatic. This was the moment I had been waiting for to help strengthen our relationship. He told me that his new occupation would be moving to Colorado and working on a marijuana farm. I told him if he went, I would break up with him. He went anyways. While he was gone I realized that I needed to stop making excuses for him and make myself happy again. Although it wasn’t easy being in that kind of relationship, it took a lot of help and support from those around me to help me realize that I deserve to be with a much more caring and loving man. Never again will I make excuses for anyone to emotionally abuse me in a relationship.

BEING AROUND YOUR CRUSH OR BOYFRIEND CAN ALREADY BE NERVE-WRACKING ENOUGH, BUT ADD A PROFESSOR OR FRATERNITY STAIR FALL INTO THE TO THE MIX AND YOU’VE GOT YOURSELF A COLLEGE MEMORY THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME. CHECK OUT THESE GIRLS’ EMBARRASSING STORIES THAT HAPPENED RIGHT HERE ON BUTLER UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS!
MY STORY
“I had recently started talking to this guy who was probably the hottest guy I’ve
ever had a thing with. I decided to be scandalous and send him a sexy Snapchat.
I was nervous about sending it because
I’ve never sent anything like that to someone before. It wasn’t until a few minutes later that I realized I had accidentally put the picture on my MyStory instead of sending
it to him. Even though only a few people saw it, I was totally embarrassed.” -Senior
ON THE DOT
“I was at a club downtown one night when I saw this guy that I had hooked up with a few times before. One thing led to another and we ended up getting an Uber and heading back to his place. We were in his room hooking up when I remembered that I was on my period. I went to the bathroom to take the tampon out and it was covered in blood. As I started to look around for a trashcan, I heard him standing outside the door waiting for me. I had no place to put the tampon because there wasn’t any toilet paper or trash can and I didn’t want to risk lushing it down the toilet. I opened the closet door that had a bunch of bath towels in it, wrapped my tampon in one and threw it in the back of the closet. The next day
I lied and told him that I thought I left my earrings at his place and wanted to come back and look for them, but really my mission was to get the tampon. When I went back to get them he told me he wasn’t home, but he found my earrings and set them outside for me to pick up. My plan failed and I am almost positive that tampon is still sitting in his bathroom closet.” -Senior
BEER SHOWER
One night, I was at a fraternity hanging out with some friends when I noticed the guy I liked standing at the bottom of the stairs. I wanted to get his attention, so I started walking down the steps as slowly and sexy as I could. I ended up walking too slow, fell down the stairs and my shirt
got stuck over my head. I also spilt the entire beer that was in my hand all over myself. It was so awkward I just walked out the front door. I didn’t even look to see if he saw me trip, but I know he did.” -Junior
OMG!
THAT’S MY BEST FRIEND
“One time I was in the basement of a house party when I noticed this guy was looking at me. I thought he was pretty cute and we continued eyeing each other for the rest of the night. I kept taking shots at the bar because if there was any chance of us hooking up, I wanted to make sure I was
as drunk as possible. Just as the party was winding down he came over and approached me. I thought he was going to ask me to go home with him, but turns out he was looking at my friend who I was with all night, not me.” -Sophomore
THE LOOK OF SHAME
“One weekend, my mom decided to come visit me from out-of-town. She told me that she would call/text me when she was leaving. I had went out the night before and ended up staying with some random guy. My phone died in the middle of the night, so I never got the text from my mom. The guy drove me back to my place in the morning, but as we got closer to my house I noticed my mom’s car sitting outside. I was so embarrassed because when I got out of
the car my mom just looked at me in my clothes from the night before. The guy didn’t say anything to my mom and just drove away.” –Junior
MORNING MESS
“I was at Bagel Deli one morning with this guy who I had just hooked up with the night before. I was wearing his athletic clothes with no bra. Just when we sat down with our food I looked up and saw my professor walk in. I tried to not make
eye contact, but Bagel Deli is super small so clearly he noticed me. He waved and said hi from the register. The guy I was with waved back too. Turns out we both had him that semester in the same class, just different sections.” -Freshman
