LCAD Sculpture faculty train students
to work in a variety of techniques in
producing works ranging from one third-
life-size to life-size. Courses in sculpture
can be combined to earn an emphasis or
a minor in Sculpture.

LCAD students with Sculpture minors
or emphases are prepared to enter
the competitive field of sculpture by
gaining commissions, exhibiting as
gallery artists or branching out into the
entertainment industry.

LIBERAL ARTS

Our Liberal Arts courses and minors
will elevate your creative output.

By making you a better creative problem solver.
By deepening your knowledge of cultural history and art history.
By motivating you to discover your place in the artistic continuum.
By broadening your worldview.
By helping you to formulate and articulate your aesthetic
point of view.
By revealing the connections between your creative output
and the world beyond the classroom.
By assisting you in adding to the discourse.
By challenging you to create something long-lasting and relevant.
By encouraging you to be a positive force in the world.

Because successful artists and designers—those who are not just
thriving, but who also are making a difference—not only inspire
others, but ultimately help shape culture. This is achieved by the
meaning and context driving their work, and meaning and context
is precisely what your LCAD Liberal Arts education provides.

LIBERAL ARTS

84

All LCAD Liberal Arts instructors are experienced educators, many
of whom are world-class scholars and working artists themselves.

As such, they bring unique assets to the classroom, including guests
who are Academy Award®-winning storytellers and songwriters, and
prize-winning authors and publishers. You will learn the foundations
of storytelling techniques, the histories of civilizations, the history
of all art making and the specialized history of your chosen major.

Our mathematics course explores the golden ratio and
neuroaesthetics. Our science classes are conducted outdoors in the
protected wilderness area surrounding our campus, and out in the
tide pools and waters of Laguna Beach. In our comparative culture
classes you can study Surf Culture or look at the Zombie Zeitgeist:
From Gilgamesh to The Walking Dead. And you can further elevate
your learning experience with a minor in Art History or minor in
Creative Writing. LCAD’s Liberal Arts experience sets us apart from
any other college of art and design.
