During the school holidays,
my family decide to travel
to Sabah.
When we arrived, my father
asked his driver to send us to
our homestay.
Then, I saw our neighbour
wearing some weird clothes
that I had never seen before.
"What kind of clothes are they wearing?
asked me
The man was wearing "Gaung" while the
woman was wearing "Sinuangga", said mom.
"Mom, why are they wearing that?" she
asked
"They're wearing their traditional clothes,
my dear," said mom.
We headed towards and greeted them.
"Hello, we are from Terengganu." We
came here for a vacation." said father."
"Can I know why you guys are wearing
these clothes?" asked me.
Hello, nice to meet you. We wear these
clothes because today is a day of
Kaamatan. Do you want to join us?" asked
them.
" Oh sure!" said father.
During the Kaamatan festival, we
watched a traditional dance of the
Kadazan people. We were happy
and wanted to know why they
danced like that.
"Mom, what is the name of the dance and
why do they dance like that? asked me.
"It is a sumazau dance and they dance like
that to welcome the arrival of bambaazon
(rice spirit), which is performed every time
after the rice harvest," said mom.
They also held traditional game
competitions open to the guests in
attendance.
Among the competitions held were
javelin throwing, blowpipe
shooting, jumping on bamboo
bouncing castles and more.
THE END.
