What happens when the lights go out? This is
what you need to know about warranties
The introduction of LED lighting into the market
in recent years has completely revolutionised the
industry. Economical and energy saving, LEDs are an
obvious choice when purchasing lighting. However,
LED light fittings often have integrated LED chips
that don’t allow for replacement of the light source.
For this reason, the estimated lifespan of the
luminaire and its warranty are key decision-making
factors when buying LED lighting. As a result, who
you’re buying them from becomes all the more
important and quality comes into question.
Start-up companies have a bad reputation for
misleading customers and making them believe
that the warranties offered will be upheld, yet there’s
actually no guarantee that the company will exist
in a year or two. The reality is that many of these
start-ups don’t take into account all of the additional
procedures, safety regulations and compliance
testing and certification that each product needs to
meet, as per the National Regulator for Compulsory
Specifications (NRCS) of South Africa, before being
offered for sale, not to mention the extra costs
involved when importing light fittings. Buying
lights from an established, reputable company
means you can be assured that the warranty you
receive – and the life of your investment – will
meet your expectations. When it comes to LED
in particular, ensure you choose a long-standing
company with high-quality LED fittings, valid
warranties, and a proven after-sales track record,
like Spazio Lighting that has been in the industry
for almost three decades. ●
