MENTAL HEALTH MONTH PROGRAMME: "THE END
IS THE NEW BEGINNING"

Mental illness is a disorder that affect cognitive functioning of human being and may cause
changes to the individual process of thinking and behaving. It becomes worst when the affected
person started to have suicidal ideation, intention and attempt.  They also tend to do self-harm as
the method of coping.  The awareness about mental health among the society in Malaysia still
need to be improved.  Therefore, it is very important for mental health practitioner and educator
to take action in creating and inculcating the awareness among the society as to have physically
and mentally healthy community. In line with the concern of creating the healthy community,
CCSC had successfully conducted the Mental Health Month Programme 2019 from 16th
September 2019 until 24th October 2019.  Several programs were conducted during the Mental
Health Month Program as follows:

FACILITATING TRAINING FOR
MENTOR MENTEE 'KAMI ANAK DUNIA' IN COLLABORATION WITH

CENSERVE

Mentor Mentee Project Kami Anak Dunia is one of the flagship projects under CENSERVE which
include mentoring and facilitating skills programmes among the selected clubs. This programme
focused on offering mentoring relationship skills for the facilitators and understanding personal
growth process of their mentee that come from primary school students in Gombak area. Thus,
CCSC has been invited to collaborate with CENSERVE to conduct TOT for clubs’ facilitators under
CENSERVE as to equip them with facilitating and mentoring skills as well as offering continual
support may include emotional, psychological and academic related aspects.

SOP ON MENTAL HEALTH CASES

CCSC is in the final stage of developing SOP on Mental Health Cases as a guideline to handle
mental health cases in IIUM. This SOP will be used by the related K/C/D/I/Os. The SOP is
expected to be launched officially and implemented in February 2020.

CCSC has taken a next step to venture global job markets which could open more
opportunities to support future employment of our students. CCSC is currently
developing strategic partnership with international recruiters; Pasona Group Malaysia,
Amanie Group and InvestKL Corporation to market our students to Japan, Middle East

ACADEMIC DISCOURSE ON IIUM SEJAHTERA PROFILING AND MENTAL
HEALTH ISSUES WITH FACULTY OF COGNITIVE SCIENCES AND HUMAN

DEVELOPMENT, UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA SARAWAK (UNIMAS)

This programme is one of the methods to expand the knowledge in related fields and also
strength the relationship between two universities.
On the 16th December, CCSC had a discussion with Dr. Rizal bin Abu Bakar, Lecturer, Faculty of
Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, UNIMAS to share expert opinions on the innovation
process of profiling from the existed profiling. The review was presented to CCSC team for further
improvement on innovation project year 2020. Some of the suggestions are as follow:

Innovate new Sejahtera profiling that will become the signature of IIUM.
The innovated version of Sejahtera Profiling must be designed to meet the local standard for it
to be administered nationwide.

Meanwhile on 17th December, CCSC visited Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak (JAIS) to discuss on the
topic of mental health from Islamic Perspective and to have some insight about the cases being
handled at JAIS. It was a fruitful discussion that resulted in several outcomes:

Mental Health issues must not be totally separated with Islamic teaching.
The awareness of maintaining positive well-being must be included in da’wah.
Psychological well-being can be included in Pre-marital workshop to educate young married
couples on the importance of mental health.

The programme was organized by Student Affairs and Development Division (STADD).
CCSC was invited to participate in the exhibition to promote the office of CCSC and
services provided by CCSC to new intake students.

STUDENT FEST 2019

CCSC had been given an opportunity to open booth during Students Fest 2019 which
was successfully held from 7th October – 11th October 2019. Among activities
conducted at the booth were personality tests, career tests and art therapy activities. 
The CCSC’s support group i.e. the members of IIUM Peers had assisted CCSC to
promote the services and upcoming events of CCSC to the IIUM community.  CCSC won
the best booth under office category during the event.

(M100 Awards).  This event is annually organized by GTI Media as to recognize the most
outstanding graduate recruiters in the country across various sectors.

Intervarsity Young Motivator Competition (I-MAC) is an annual programme organized by
Majlis Kaunseling & Kerjaya Universiti-Universiti Malaysia (MAKUMA). Each University is
welcomed to send two or three contestants. For year 2019, Universiti Teknologi Mara
(UiTM) was selected to be the host for this competition. IIUM was presented by three (3)
talented motivators who won the competition at the University Level respectively (Final
competition held on 12th October 2019).

BEACH CLEAN-UP PROGRAMME AT PANTAI CERMIN,
PORT DICKSON

One of the ODRSDCE’s Strategic Iniatiative i.e. the involvement of IIUM staff in the
community programme. Its main objectives were to respond the ODRSDCE’s strategic
initiative, requiring the involvement of IIUM staff in the community programme,
developing close relationship among CCSC staff as well as to create awareness among
staff in appreciating the nature and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDG).
