Assalamualaikum wbt. Salam sejahtera, and, greetings to all. ‘Salam Melaka Berwibawa, Pintar, Hijau, Bersih dan Salam Mendidik Daripada Hati Dengan Penuh Integriti.’ Before I begin, I would like to express my gratitude to Allah S.W.T. for by His blessings, this Robot Olympics Malaysia & Young STEMist Expo 2024 has been organised successfully. Malaysia’s Ministry of Education truly emphasizes on innvation and Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTs). This is in line with our mission of producing a generation of innovators by empowering students in mastering technical skills and developing innovation in science and technology, especially in robotics. This is to ensure that our youths will not be left behind, but be at par with youths of other nations and able to be competitive in the global job market. Thus, the Ministry aims to reduce the education gap in terms of knowledge, exposure, experience and skills between schools in rural areas and in the cities. For this, Robotics Programme Expansion agenda have come about, and is being conducted phase by phase across the nation. The Robot Olympics Malaysia competition is indeed one of the pioneer initiatives to enhance students’ knowledge and mastery of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This is to mobilise the government’s aspiration to increase the percentage of students learning as well as mastering subjects in the field of STEM. Since the first time SMJK Yok Bin organised Robot Olympics Malaysia, we have seen improvement in participation and also the quality of the winners’ creations. I hope this will continue and flourish even more. We hope to see great future inventors in the making. As this also coincides with Melaka state tourism campaign, ‘Visit Melaka Year 2024’, I hope this further promotes Melaka, a UNESCO World Heritage City. I take this opportunity to thank SMJK Yok Bin, Melaka, Universiti Teknikal Melaka (UTeM), and Kolej Tingkatan Enam Tun Fatimah (Form 6 College) for making this grand event a success. The main objective of the ‘Robot Olympics Malaysia & Young STEMist Expo 2024’ is to draw interest the field of science and techology among students, who are our young generation and future leaders. This Expo is an avenue for the participants to practically apply practical knowledge in robotics. It is our mission to utilise robotics as a tool to enhance understanding and further deepen students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). At the same time, this international Robot Olympics is aimed at promoting our state Melaka on global stage. This coincides with the state tourism campaign, ‘Visit Melaka Year 2024’. Competitions such as this are held to encourage students to maximise Higher Order Thinking skills (HOTs), and explore their creativity as well as various strategies in order to plan, design, mould, build, test, and improve on robots that are reliable and sturdy enough to face challenges from fellow competitors. All this process requires students to apply STEM integrated concepts. This is in line with the Ministry of Education’s aspiration to produce more dynamic, knowledgable and highly-skilled experts that are competitive in science and technology that is vast evolving. I truly hope that this ‘Robot Olympics Malaysia & Young STEMist Expo 2024’ will be a useful platform for producing individuals that are innovative and competitive in the gobal market.
