Dear Friends,
It usualy only takes about ten minutes in a school to discern the predominant culture.
A s the new kid on the block, I am happy to report that Escuela’s is—without a
doubt—one of love and learning.
At a recent basketbal game, a parent of one of our players welcomed me—and with
light in her eyes and in front of her shy but smiling daughter—she shared with me her
appreciation of Escuela. At her previous school her daughter’s grades were mediocre and
she had struggled with the competitive, sometimes catty, nature of her peers. Here
at Escuela, she told me, the love among the staff and students alike make it a place
where her child thrives academicaly, socialy, and spiritualy. There it was.
The “L” word in education. Even though it’s not a word traditionaly used in academia,
it is the deep-seated knowledge and intuition in the heart of every parent and educator:
“Love” is the best environment in which to learn.
Over the course of my first month as President, I have had the pleasure and privilege
of witnessing first-hand the innovative practices of our teachers as they move our
students towards biliteracy across al subjects. I have seen our faculty teaching
social-emotional skils with patience and love, laying the foundation for how our children
wil walk into the w orld—preparing them to act as compassionate leaders in their
homes and communities. I have seen our dedicated staff work to forge partnerships
to advance our mission of making quality, dual-language Catholic education financialy
accessible to families throughout the Denver area.
I am humbled by the opportunity to be part of this community and am ready to put my
hand and heart to the plow to serve this mission, supported by the goodness, prayers,
and generosity of al of you.
I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you in the coming months.
In the meantime, I’m excited to be able to share our latest Annual Report, which
highlights al of the school’s accomplishments during the 2015-2016 Academic Year.
I hope you wil find it as inspiring as I do.
Sincerely,
Paul Dul
President
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
12 3
45 6
1. We always love the first day of school, but
this year was especially exciting! On August
24th, 2015, we welcomed 124 students to
our new campus in southwest Denver. 2. In
October we celebrated alongside longtime
supporters and new friends at our inaugural
¡Salud! fundraiser, which featured live music,
plenty of margaritas, and an exciting live auc-
tion. Together, the night’s participants raised
over $110,000 to fund student scholarships.
3. In November, the Escuela community
gathered in our new gym for “Our Families,
Our Traditions,” an annual celebration of culture,
featuring traditional food, music, and dance
7 8 prepared by Escuela de Guadalupe students
and families. 4. Renown Chicano artist Tony
Ortega and his students from Regis University
worked alongside Escuela de Guadalupe 4th
and 5th graders to create a community mural (now on display at the school!) that celebrates the history and culture of our students. 5. In December,
music teacher Mr. Adam and his students prepared a beautiful Christmas program to share with our parents. 6. Super Bowl 50! Go Broncos! 7.
The opportunity to work alongside local non-profits and serve our community makes Sr. Susan Swain Service Day (April 22nd) one of our favorite
days of the year at Escuela. 8. In May, students and faculty held a surprise “Despedida” (goodbye party) for one of our favorite Guadalupanos,
Escuela President David Card. Each grade prepared a special tribute for Mr. David and presented their work at the school-wide assembly.
Stay up-to-date on all the latest Escuela happenings by subscribing to our eblast and following us on FB at @EscueladeGuadalupe.
OUR STUDENTS
During the 2015-2016 academic year, Escuela de Guadalupe served a diverse
body of 124 bilingual, multicultural learners from across the socioeconomic
spectrum.
55% Native Language
45% English
Spanish
54% 46%
“We know that when a student learns a second language
he understands the struggles of his classmate who
is also learning another language. We also know that
when a student learns Spanish or English, she also
learns about the music, food, history, injustices, and
traditions that are fundamental to those cultures.”
Ms. Lauren Carranza, 3rd Grade Teacher
Free and Reduced Lunch Program
Qualify
Do Not Qualify
Students from families with incomes at or below 130 percent of the poverty level
are eligible for free meals throught the National School Lunch Program. As of
June 30, 2014, 130 percent of the poverty level was $30,615 for a family of four.
Ninety percent of Escuela students receive some level of
tuition assistance. The school relies on gifts made by individuals,
foundations, and corporations to close the gap between what our
families can afford and our actual cost to educate a student.
OUR GRADUATES
At the heart of Escuela de Guadalupe’s unique, dual-language program is our belief in rigorous, asset
-based education with an emphasis on Catholic values. Our intentional choice to celebrate the language,
culture and faith of our students, paired with our strong parental involvement requirements and the
support provided by our Graduate Support Program, results in a 93 percent high school graduation
rate among our alumni—nearly 50 percent higher than their demographic peers in Denver.
At the end of the 2015-2016 academic year, 18 of Escuela’s 19 5th graders matriculated into our
first-ever 6th grade class. Our new middle school program—part of an expansion that will allow us
to nearly double the number of students we serve—fosters academic excellence and a spirit of servant
leadership in our students, while also allowing us to directly transition them to competitive, college
preparatory high schools in the area.

Post-Secondary Education
As of June 30th, 2016, over 90 percent of our age-eligible
students have graduated or are on track to graduate
from high school. Seventy-six percent of these students
have continued on to attend college, university, or a technical
school. Many of them first-generation college students.
Post-secondary schools attended by alumni include
(but are not limited to) Colorado College, Colorado State
University, University of Colorado, Regis University,
St. Louis University, and the University of San Francisco.
“Escuela provided me with a general love for learning, especially
language, which has led me pursue a Spanish minor. More
importantly, at Escuela I first learned about the importance
of service which has inspired me to choose a major focused
on serving vulnerable members of our community through
Nursing.“ Kateri Sheber Howard, St. Louis University Class of
2020 (EdG Class of 2000)
“My path to success has been nothing like I had planned, but
thanks to the confidence that I developed at Escuela, the support
of my parents and the relentlessly high expectations of
Ms. Lupe (EdG Graduate Support), not only have I been able
to achieve the dreams that my father had for me when we
arrived in Colorado sixteen years ago, now I have even bigger
dreams for myself.” Missael Tovar Hernandez, Northwest

LEAVING A LEGACY
In June 2016, Escuela de Guadalupe said goodbye to our fearless leader David Card, as he became
the President of his alma-mater Regis Jesuit High School. It is almost impossible to overstate David’s
impact at Escuela de Guadalupe. He joined Escuela in 2003 as our first President and over the course of
thirteen years he led the school from a startup to a nationally recognized leader in inner city education.
Working hand-in-hand with our principal, faculty, and staff, he pushed for exceptional academic out-
comes, implemented a sustainable economic model, spearheaded the move to our new West Denver
facility and prepared the school to launch both Middle School and Pre-Kindergarten programs.
THE DAVID CARD SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Established by the Board of Trustees in May 2016, The David Card Scholarship will be awarded
annually to the two middle school students (one girl and one boy) who best exemplify a strong committment
to our five pillar values; diversity, empowerment, community, faith and excellence.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, to date we have raised over $52,000 in David’s honor.
