County Boys reach Anglian League Final
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE Boys team have qualified for the Anglian League Final after winning their
regional qualifying tri-match against Leicestershire and Lincolnshire at Lutterworth GC.
Despite being under strength in the morning pairs, the County kept themselves in the contest through a
couple of tight wins from Jadon Pham and Oliver Godwin and two more convincing victories from Jacob
Williams and Calum Sainsbury.
With all three teams sitting on four points going into the afternoon singles, Northamptonshire (pictured
below) stepped up a gear with a collection of exceptional performances as they earned a place in the
final at The Cambridgeshire GC on Monday, August 15th.
Ben Atherton, James Atwood and Harrison Panter were particularly impressive as they grabbed big
wins as the team thrashed Lincolnshire, before confirming top spot with a draw against Leicestershire.
Northamptonshire were also successful in their Midlands Golf Union triangular match against
Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire at Coxmoor GC in Nottinghamshire.
The team, which included Joseph Hyde, Mark Stockdale, Elliot Strickland, Kai Raymond and Oliver
Penberthy as well as Williams, Sainsbury, Atherton, Attwood and Pham, hammered the home county by
the scoreline 11-4, as well as getting the better of Lincolnshire by four points.
NGL Director of Junior Golf Asy Ho said: “We had some of our most experienced players in the team but
some were playing in only their second ever County matches.
“The Boys played really well and were able to win against both Counties, and now go into our final match
against Leicestershire on Wednesday, August 17th at Cosby GC.”

Podium spot for Girls in Midlands South Team Stableford
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE’s Girls team (pictured below left-to-right) of Emily Nunn, Lottie Heaver, Amy
Nunn, Freya Pickford, Jen Kyle and Abi Kyle finished in third position out of six teams in the Midlands
South Team Stableford Trophy at The Warwickshire GC.
In an event when each team includes two single-figure handicappers, two mid-handicappers and
a couple of high-handicappers, Northants compiled a score of 146 points to finish just two behind
winners Buckinghamshire and runners-up Berkshire.
With the best four individual scores to count towards the team total, the host county finished fourth,
followed by Oxfordshire, with Worcestershire and Herefordshire in sixth.
NGL Director of Junior Golf Asy Ho said: “The standard of play was really high and all six of our girls
played really well posting some fantastic scores.
“Special mention goes to Jen Kyle who was making her County debut and scored a fantastic 41
points to match the highest score of the day. It was a really great performance from the team and we
look forward to improving on the result next year.”
County Ladies Second Team
AMY Nunn will captain the County Ladies second team when they play Buckinghamshire in the
Midlands Team Final at Badgemore Park GC on Thursday, August 11th.
Nunn is joined in the team by fellow teenagers Chelsey Sharp, Olivia Holyoak-Church and Molly-May

New support team in place to help develop young golfers
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE Golf have strengthened their support team at junior level by announcing
that Emma Bazeley will work alongside mother and daughter Diane and Katie Amos as part of the
new County Girls Team, while Adam Print will join as County Boys Team manager for next season.
Diane Amos said: “I am delighted to be asked to re-join the County Girls team and look forward to
working closely with Emma, Asy and Claire in supporting and developing the girls set up again.
“Although I am a non-golfer I have been involved in golf for over 10 years as a dedicated parent and
prior to Covid helped manage the girls squad for three years.
“I’ve worked for a high street bank for 25 years, with the last 10 years spent as a stand-alone business
manager, it is these skills that I developed that will assist me within my role with the County Girls.
“As a parent, one of the greatest pleasures is seeing a young girl find the game of golf, develop their
golfing skills but also to see them mature into a confident young lady.
“Golf has given my own daughter so many new friendships, opportunities in and out of golf and it is
these moments I hope I can help encourage other girls to enjoy the game of golf.”
Katie Amos (pictured below) added: “I started playing golf at a young age, being introduced to the
sport by my grandparents who were both very supportive.
“I went into the NGL Roses team which then led to being selected to represent the County Girls by Liz
Mulliner and progressing with her support and encouragement to now being a Ladies first team player.
“Through the county pathway it has given me many wonderful experiences, met a great bunch of
people and had the opportunity to play some wonderful courses.
“I now wish to give some of my time, knowledge and experiences to the younger girls and to help
develop the County Girls into a team which everyone is proud to be part of.
“Presently I am a third year undergraduate in Physical Education and Sport at Lincoln University and
also an England Golf Young Ambassador for three years being leader of the Hero’s Handshake Award.
“This has opened up many opportunities in the golf industry and has recently given me the chance to
be a scoreboard carrier at the 150th Open, participating in radio interviews and events management.”

Who will claim the NGL Junior Order of Merits this year?
JADON Pham (Overstone Park) and Molly-May Baker (Northants County) are the respective Boys
and Girls leaders in both the gross and net categories of the NGL Junior Order of Merits after the
latest three events at Northampton, Cold Ashby and Peterborough Milton.
In the Northampton Junior Open, Pham (pictured below) finished third in the gross behind Oliver
Godwin (Overstone) and Oliver Penberthy (County), who compiled the joint-best boys gross round of
74. Toby Heath and Mackenzie Warden (both Northampton) carded the leading boys net score of 61.
Jen Kyle (Overstone) produced a magnificent back nine to claim the girls net prize with a superb
net 60, while Jade Potter shot a level par gross 73 on her home course to claim the gross plaudits.
Cold Ashby’s Junior Open four days later saw
Krishan Panesar (Northants County) shoot a
net 69 to earn a countback victory in the boys
net competition from Penberthy, who also
finished runner-up to Pham (76) in the gross.
Overstone’s Amy Nunn completed a gross (64)
and net (72) girls double, and then continued
her good form into the Peterborough Milton
Junior Open the following week as she
compiled the leading girls net score of 73.
Northampton’s Lila Bisset won the girls gross
prize with a 78 that included gross birdies on
three of the quartet of par five holes.
In the boys competition, Isaac Hedger fired a
brilliant winning round of net 62 on his home
course to triumph by seven shots from Panesar
and Joe Jaggard (County).
Fellow Milton member Euan Herson carded
13 consecutive pars at the start of his round
to take the gross prize with a two over par 73.

18-hole categories qualifying for the Grand

Disappointing season continues for Men’s Teams
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE’S men will look to end a disappointing campaign
on a high in the Anglian League after both the first and second teams lost
against Leicestershire and Rutland in the penultimate round of fixtures.
Although George Castle and Jack Brown both remained unbeaten in the
pairs and singles, the rest of the County first team couldn’t find their very
best touch as they were beaten 9-3 at Kibworth GC.
The second team, who had lost their previous three matches, used the
reverse fixture at Cold Ashby GC as an ideal opportunity to blood some
debutantes as Jacob Williams, Charlie Pearce and Jody Parfitt all made
their first County appearances.
Parfitt secured a half in the morning pairs, alongside Jordan Darnell, while
Pearce (pictured right) recorded an excellent 5&4 victory in his singles
match, but Northants went down 8-4.
Confidence amongst the squad was possibly understandably low after a dispiriting result in the Midlands
Six-man Team Qualifying Tournament when the side couldn’t make the most of home advantage at
Overstone Park GC as they finished 10th.
Midland County Seniors Team
THE County Seniors Team warmed up for a busty period of activity this month by playing two friendly
matches against Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
Local knowledge didn’t seem to help however as the side won away by five points against Derbyshire
at Breadsall Priory GC, but then lost 11-7 to Staffs at Northampton GC a few days later.
With the Midland Seniors County Championships taking place on August 10th at Birstall GC, followed
by Anglian/East Midlands League matches against Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire the following
week, the team are aiming to find their best.
LEADING County golfers Charley Hull and Meghan MacLaren both took part in the first ever major
ladies professional tournament to be held at Muirfield GC as they played in the AIG Women’s Open.
Hull, who went into the event in great form after finishing tied third in the previous major - the Evian
Championship - a couple of weeks earlier, made the cut again as she finished tied 22nd on 284.
MacLaren, who qualified for the competition after winning on the Ladies European Tour earlier this
year, missed out on the weekend by three strokes.
Northampton teenager Jade Potter also enjoyed a memorable experience at the home of golf as she
made her debut for the Scotland Girls team
in the Home Internationals at Downfield GC.
Competing alongside Freya Russell in the
pairs against Wales on the opening morning,
Potter (pictured left) made the dream start
as the duo romped to a 6&4 victory as the
team drew 10½-10½.
Despite losing twice against Ireland on the
second day and again in the pairs against
eventual winners England on the final day,
Potter showed her mettle in the singles as
she fought back from five down at the turn
to grab a half.
