What is “Remote Learning”?

By: Adison Sawyer, Shylee Asher, Aleah Volkmann, Charlotte
Stueber, & Kendall Christiansen

“Safer at home” means coronavirus is extremely

contagious, so going out and about is not safe for you and

your family. Right now the best place to be is at home.

Which means we can no longer attend school. Because of

this we are now learning through Google Classroom and

Google Meets. In Google Classroom you can see all your

assignments, when they are due, and if you have done Kendall C. enjoying a nice day
them. Google Meet is like Facetime, but made by Google. remote learning
This allows us to see our teachers and friends, ask

questions, and discuss upcoming lessons. Every week we do Google Meets with our

teachers so we can see what we have to do that week, and to just check in and chat.

Some kids are doing well with remote learning, but some are having struggles. Some

get puzzled or stumped because they don't have a teacher by their side to help them Luke F. participating in a class Google Meet

like they do at school; others love the flexibility of doing their work on the schedule

when they want. If we all work together we will get through it.

How Do Kids Stay Focused During “Remote Learning”?

By: Charlotte Stueber

Since coronavirus took over the world, we’ve all been getting off task, because we’re home and we feel we can do whatever we 1
want. We put things off and we just simply don’t do ANYTHING! Come on, ALL of us are guilty of being couch potatoes!
I’m going to be giving you some tips and tricks to staying focused during quarantine.
* Turn off ALL electronic devices; it’s really easy to get distracted when talking to friends.
* You can also make a list or schedule of what you have to do and when you have to do it. This helps keep me stay in line and
focused on what I have to do.
* You can hang up positive quotes or inspirational messages to put by your workspace. This will make your workspace more
fun, and whenever you look at your wall it will remind you to keep going.
* Remember! Don’t get overwhelmed when you see your Google Classroom. Your teacher posts assignments for the WHOLE
week, not just for one day, don’t feel rushed or do them all at once. Setting a time frame also helps you to get all your work
done, that way it won’t be spread out through the entire day. I know it seems like a good thing to put things off in the
moment, but trust me it comes back to haunt you.
* Keeping your house clean! I know it sounds crazy, but this really helps you to stay focused when you look around and it’s
not all messy.
* STAY ACTIVE! A healthy body means a healthy mind. You can also eat healthy and drink plenty of water! Eating the
four food groups and drinking lots of water benefits your whole body!
* Try to do something that you can’t normally do because you don’t have time. This is a great opportunity to explore new
things!
* Keep organized! Organization feels really good once you do it.
Those are my tips, I hope you try some of these to improve your “stay at home” lifestyle. Let's use this as an opportunity to
do great things, get stronger, and improve ourselves! Remember to wash your hands, and stay healthy!

State Park Pass Fee Waived

By: Taylor & Mason Kochanski

This summer tourists are going to be able to take advantage of one more
feature in Door County. Passes for the state and county parks within the area
are now free. This means that the parks are more accessible to everybody.
However, this also means that the parks could begin to lose money, due to
the loss of pass sales. Regardless, you can still do many things at the parks.
Ever since the parks became free, they are more accessible to everyone. This
now gives people another great option of things to do during quarantine.
While you are at the parks you can still enjoy doing all the things you did
when you had to pay for an entrance fee. According to The Door County
Pulse, in Peninsula State Park, visitors have roughly three thousand, seven
hundred acres to explore. In this area you can kayak and paddle boat at
Nicola Bay Beach, or you can hike and bike on the Sunset Bike Trail. You
can also challenge yourself to more than twelve miles of off-road biking.
There are also some downfalls with the park passes being free. For example,

state parks, like Peninsula State Park are not going to be able to use the money they would usually get to pay
the workers, and do maintenance. Annual park passes in Peninsula State Park for a Wisconsin License Plate cost
around twenty-eight dollars, while a daily pass cost is about eight dollars. With passes being free, they are losing
a lot of money! Another thing to consider with the Corona Virus going around is that people might not be social
distancing. Which is very bad!
In conclusion with the parks being free we should use this opportunity to go to the parks as much as possible.
However, we need to recognize that the parks are not bringing in the money they usually would. We should use
this opportunity to make a donation, if you are able to. This will insure that the parks will still be able to run in
the future.

What to Do During “Safer at Home”

By: Aleah Volkmann & Kendall Christiansen

Are you tired of sitting around all day doing nothing, because
you are so bored? There lots of fun things to do inside and
outside. When you’re inside you can play card games and
board games like Monopoly, BattleShip, Trouble, Kings
Corner, Trash, or Cribbage. Or you could do a puzzle or bake
something for your family. Are you looking for something to
bake? Check out Shylee’s article for some fun recipes for tasty
snacks. You could even make up a game! Some other things
you can do are crafts, drawing, or write a story. You could also
watch a movie or read a book. Writing a letter or drawing a
picture to family and friends would be nice too.
There are many things to do outside too, like playing catch
with a frisbee or ball or riding a bike or scooter. Hiking is fun
and is great exercise. You can hike at Cave Point, Whitefish
Dunes, Potawatomi State Park, and Peninsula State Park.
Walks are great exercise too. I bet if you have a pet they
would love to go on a fun little walk. There are many more
things to do, you just have to find the right thing for you!

Movie Recommendations

By: Adien Baier

We all know that in these times, we have more time on our hands, but the big question is, what do we do
with all that time? We watch a movie, of course! There are tons of blockbuster hits that many parents and their

kids are dying to watch like; “Onward” and “Jumanji: the Next Level.” But there are also some classics that
are making comebacks like; “Where The Red Fern Grows” and “Back To The Future.” If you are still clueless
as to what to watch, take a peek at the list below and I’m sure you’ll find something that's the perfect fit for

your next family movie night.

How To Stay Fit During Quarantine

By: Luke Filar

All of this Quarantine stuff can be really hard when you are not able to do what you are used to doing, or

even getting the same amount of exercise.

One way that you can get exercise is to play a

game with yourself or your entire family. Get a

deck of cards, a piece of paper and a pencil. Draw

seven even, horizontal lines down the paper. Now

draw a vertical line down the middle. In the row

of boxes on the left hand side, write “spades” in

the first box, “hearts” in the second, “diamonds”

in the third, “clubs” in the fourth, “jacks” in the

fifth, “queens” in the sixth, and ”kings” in the

seventh. Then write in each box on the right

what exercises you would like to do. (See example

game board.) Some examples are planks, push

ups, lunges, sit ups, jumping jacks, squats, and

wall sits where you pretend to sit on a chair, with

your back against the wall. Pick up the first card

on the deck. The type of card it is is what exercise

you do and the numbers in the corners of the

card, is how many many seconds or reps you do.

If you choose a face card, do 15 seconds or reps of

the corresponding exercise. If the game is too

hard or too easy, you can always adjust the game

to your level.

There are many sports you can play too. You could kick a ball around your backyard or play soccer with a

sibling or guardian. You can try to do as many pull-ups as you

can. If you don’t have a pull-up bar, you can be a little

creative and find a low branch on a tree and do pull-ups on

there. If the branch is thicker and you can’t get a grip, try

putting one hand on one side of the branch and your other

hand on the other. You can also go for a run or bike around

your neighborhood. You do the max number of sit ups you

can do in one minute. Or you could just go play. Resident fitness guru, Luke F. showing off his

But what about this summer?

Summer Plans

By: Adison & Brody Sawyer

It's been five weeks since we all have been out of school, and three weeks since we have been in social distance.
But is there an end in sight? Many kids and adults have high hopes for summer but they all hope that they can
have fun!
There are a lot of kids I could ask about what they are doing on summer break, but I just had to pick a few! All
of the people had to answer these questions:

- "What do you think you will do this summer?"
- "Do you think we are able to have regular summer plans?"
- "What do you hope isn't canceled this summer that you are really looking forward to?"
I plan on spending time with my family and playing outside. I don't know if we will be able to have regular
plans unless the coronavirus stops. I really hope that softball is not cancelled because I love playing it with my
friends but I can still play ball with my dad and brother.
Everybody has fun plans for this summer, but who knows if we will be able to do all these fun things this
summer!
