A Message from the Headteacher

On behalf of the pupils, staff and the Governing Body of Saint John
Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy I thank you for taking the time to
read our brochure. Currently, you are in the process of deciding the path
that your son or daughter will take for their future. I do hope from our
brochure you can see that our Academy is the right path for your child and
their future.

Our Academy’s aim is to deliver the best education, the best opportunities,
the best support and the best care for every child as sons and daughters of
God. We strive to ensure that the children in our care are loved, valued
and supported. We want all children to leave us as confident young adults
ready for life in our modern society. We place Christ at the centre of our
school and we strive to live by and teach the values of love, forgiveness,
excellence, compassion and service to others. I am honoured to be the
Headteacher of Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy and I am
proud of all our past successes and look forward to building on them in the
future. If, after reading the brochure, you would like to come and see our
Academy, please feel free to contact the school and make an appointment.
Please check our website for further information.

We look forward to welcoming you to our community.

Mrs J McCarthy
Headteacher

Mission Statement

Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy is a school offering a
Christian education where prayer, worship and liturgy are integral parts of our
daily life.

We aspire

• to be recognised for the quality of care extended to all associated with
us and to respect each person’s dignity and uniqueness;

• to make the faith life of the school inform and affect work in all areas of
the curriculum;

• to be a ‘family’, embracing home and parish, with an awareness of its
responsibilities to both local and worldwide communities;

• to establish a whole curriculum which will balance the highest academic
standards with the life skills and critical awareness necessary to enable
all students to reach their full potential and respond to the needs of
society.

Prayer of Saint John Houghton

Father, give me the courage to always do what is right.

Instil within me the grace that I may serve you today, as Saint John Houghton
once did, through prayer and witness.

Empower me with the conviction to put my heart into all that I do for the good
of others.
Provide me with the strength of mind to keep my faith.

And above all, grant me the fortitude to follow your Son, Jesus, amid the
mayhem of our often chaotic world.
