What is the meaning of Make School
A Safer Place ?
Whether a student is escaping abuse at home, discrimination due to
sexuality or race, or overcoming trauma, teachers and schools regularly
provide much more beyond academic learning. They also offer therapy,
support, and a place of refuge for many, which makes learning possible.
Looking at schools as safe, inclusive spaces helps prepare young people
for our diverse world, giving them a sense of belonging and support so
that they’re able to face life’s challenges in healthy ways. So let’s take a
closer look at the meaning and history behind safe places. Concerted
efforts from all relevant parties, as well as genuine support from parents
and teachers will go a long way in ensuring that all young people are
properly educated on sexual education and better equipped to recognise
sexually inappropriate behaviours. If we dont take actions, who will?

SEXUAL HARRASMENT IN SCHOOLS :
The vitality of schools in proffering solutions to the societal challenges cannot be underrated. However,
school as a hub and pivot place in addressing multifarious challenges in our society is faced with some social
ills such as bullying and sexual harassment. An escalation of sexual harassment in schools cannot be denied.
Sexual harassment in schools is a form of sex discrimination that is prohibited by Title IX, a Federal law
establishing civil rights in education that addresses issues of sex discrimination and, by judicial precedent,
sexual harassment. Sexually harassing behaviors that can interfere with one’s educational opportunity range
from words (written and spoken) and gestures to unwanted physical contact.
Some of the behaviors may also be criminal acts (assault and rape, attempted or completed and child sexual
abuse). The second recognized form of sexual harassment in schools is hostile-environment harassment.
Hostile-environment harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other
verbal, nonverbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature by an employee, another student, or a third party.
This form of harassment requires that the harassing behavior be sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive so
as to limit a student’s ability to participate in or benefit from an educational program or activity, or to create a
hostile or abusive educational environment.

SEXUAL HARRASMENT IN SCHOOLS :
However, there is yet to be a proper academic focus providing an effective mode of minimizing the prevalence
of sexual harassment in schools. Education providers have a legal duty to take steps to prevent and respond to
sexual harassment. They must make sure they keep poison-free environments that respect human rights.
From a human rights perspective, it is not acceptable to ignore sexual harassment, whether or not someone
has formally complained or made a human rights complaint. When deciding if an education provider has met
its duty to respond to a human rights claim, tribunals are likely to think about how seriously the complaint
was treated and how well the person who complained was told about the action taken. Educators can prevent
many cases of sexual harassment by having a clear, comprehensive anti-sexual harassment policy in place. In
cases of alleged sexual harassment, the policy will alert all parties to their rights, roles and responsibilities.
Policies must clearly set out how the sexual harassment will be dealt with promptly and efficiently.
Everyone should know about the anti-sexual harassment policy
and the steps in place for resolving complaints. This can be done by
making all teachers, school staffs, students, aware of them by
including the policies in orientation material and training people,
including people in positions of responsibility, about the policies,
and educating them on human rights issues. An effective sexual
harassment policy can limit harm and reduce liability. It also
promotes the equity and diversity goals of educational institutions.

How to Prevent Bullying:-
Parents, school staff, and other caring adults have a role to play in
preventing bullying. They can :
-> Help kids understand bullying.
Talk about what bullying is and how to stand up to it safely. Tell kids
bullying is unacceptable. Make sure kids know how to get help.
-> Keep the lines of communication open.
Check in with kids often. Listen to them. Know their friends, ask about
school, and understand their concerns.Encourage kids to do what they
love. Special activities, interests, and hobbies can boost confidence,
help kids make friends, and protect them from bullying behavior.

School’s Security :-
NORFARHANA
-> All schools should have security guards so that the children can be
safe inside the school premises. However, appointing any person as a @wtfarhana
school security guard may not be beneficial. One cannot depend on an
untrained security guard during the time of an emergency. Only properly
trained security guards would be able to take the necessary steps at the
right time and safeguard the children and school. The security guards
should set patrol posts at the school’s surrounding lookout points and
around the campus to build a security network and to maintain the
protection Most schools are very vigilant about who can come in and
out of their building during the school day.
School security guards can help with this by setting up shop near the entrance to the building
and keeping an eye on those who come into the school and walk out of it. They can also engage
with visitors to see what they need and point them in the right direction if they’re not sure
where to go after entering a school.
A guards should patrol the dormitory from time-to-time.The entry and exit points to the school should
be secured 24/7. Having only one school security guard will not be sufficient for this task. There should
be a minimum of two security guards so that one can safeguard the entry points of the school while
the other one is patrolling in and around the school campus. The security guards can carry out random
security checks to keep the school premises free from prohibited items. dd text here
The security guards should know how to act at the time of emergency. They should be able to
vacate the school at the earliest without causing chaos and panic among the students. The school
security guard should call the police immediately as he alone may not be able to handle the
situation.Security guards are also responsible for making a call to the fire authorities and hospitals
in case of any emergency. It is not a good idea for all the security guards to be placed at the entry
points. They should have a proper schedule to patrol in and around the school campus every
hour.here
