PUNCTUALITY
Punctuality is the habit of being on time. The
trouble with being punctual is thatPnUoNbCoTdUyA’LsITthYere to
appreciate it. Observing punctuality is not only a duty,
but is also a part of good manners; it is favourable to
fortune, reputation, influence, and usefulness. A little
attention and energy will form the habit and positive
thinking can make it easy and delightful. Punctuality is
the must-have of business and studies. Punctuality is
one of the cardinal virtues; always insist on it in your
friends and subordinates.
Lack of punctuality is a theft of someone else’s
time whether as an employee who is late for work or as
friends, where we have agreed to meet at a set time. If
one has made an appointment with somebody, he
owes that person his punctuality. After giving your
words that you will be at a certain place at a certain
time, you have no right to throw away your time
because you have included another person in that time
frame. Unfaithfulness in the keeping of an appointment
is an act of clear dishonesty. You may as well borrow a
person’s money as his time; lack of punctuality is a lack
of respect for others and disrespectful people do not go
far in life.
page 03
PUNCTUALITY
The best-laid plans, the most important affairs,
and the fortunes of individuals, thePwUNeaClTtUhAoLfITnYations,
honour, life itself, are daily sacrificed because somebody
is ‘behind time’. There are men who always fail in
whatever they undertake simply because they are
unable to be punctual. There are others who put off
reformation year by year, till death seizes them; and
they perish unrepentant, because they are forever
‘behind time’. Five minutes in a crisis is worth years. It is
but a little period, yet it has often saved a fortune or
redeemed a group of people. If there is one virtue that
should be cultivated more than another by someone
who plans to be successful in life - it is punctuality; if
there is one error that should be avoided, it is being
‘behind time’.
How to be punctual or on time, one may ask?
It is really quite simple. Plan to be early, and start out
early. Plan to arrive at least 3 minutes before the
scheduled time, you will be on time. Rightly said by
Nelson, “I owe all my success in life to having been
always a quarter of an hour before my time.”
page 04
RESPONSIBILITY
Some people are responsible, others are irresponsible.
PUNCTUALITYResponsibility is one of the traits of our character which means that
a person is able to response for his actions, is able to take some
duties and to face certain consequences of the actions that may
occur. It is often defined as the state or fact of having a duty to deal
with something or of having control over someone.
People are not born with the sense of responsibility and it does
not appear at once by magic. Responsibility is something every
person should cultivate in themselves; it should become a part of
one’s personality. Lack of such a trait of character or even its
absolute absence is never considered to be a positive feature. When
you are responsible it is easier to gain respect of the people and to
take a decent place in a society.
Someone’s irresponsibility can be not only irritating, when a
person does not cope or does not want to cope with the duties, but
in some cases it can be dangerous. There are certain kinds of jobs
which demand responsibility from a person, jobs where lack of
responsibility can lead to tragic consequences or even to a
catastrophe.
Let us imagine a situation when a student was to write an
essay but he did not manage to complete this task in time. A
professor would definitely call the student irresponsible. In this
case, there is no damage from irresponsibility, except for the
student’s personal harm. However, let’s also imagine another
situation. An employee of a Nuclear Power Plant was not attentive
enough, pushed a wrong button and it led to an explosion. This
catastrophe caused by lack of responsibility has terrible
consequences, it can damage not only environment but also can
take people’s lives.
page 05
RESPONSIBILITY
Some people claim that responsibility is not in their
nature. They say that they try to be respPoUnNsiCbTleUAbLuItTnYothing
works. Maybe, for someone, responsibility is more natural,
for others, it is not. That is why for someone it can be easier
to be responsible, while for others it is rather hard.
Honestly, sometimes it is so difficult to stay responsible,
especially when you want to relax and to have a little rest
without thinking about the duties you have.
It may seem that people who are very much
responsible, very often are too serious, and tensed, they
cannot enjoy their lives. Someone can even say that they
are unhappy. Partially it can be true, but not necessarily.
You can be a responsible and joyful person at the same
time. Responsibility does not exclude happiness. For the
positive thinkers, it is only when you are being responsible
that you can be happy because even though things might
not turn out the way you want it to be; there is honour in
being responsible.
There are many levels of responsibility and they differ
from person to person. Only you can decide what your level
is, whether you are responsible or not. Everything is up to
you!
page 06
page 07 INTEREST
Why is it important to be interested in the
things you do, be it small or big? BePUitNsCoTmUAeLtIhTiYng you
do once or every day? It is not easy to maintain our
interest in matters, but it is not entirely impossible. For
many successful people like Dale Carnegie, he knows
the importance of being interested and he even
advocates having an interest since you have but only
one life and one shot!
Being interested in what you do makes you
go the distance. You will not mind putting in the extra
hour, the extra effort, the extra energy. You will not stop
thinking about ways to achieve your target when you
are interested in something. A worker, who is interested
in his work, will not see problems as issues. He will see
them as challenges and opportunities – challenges to
make him better at his job and opportunities to learn
new things. An interested teacher will not mind taking
her work home in comparison to one who could not
wait for the school hour to be over. The magic of
interest is you will not feel as if you are wasting time or
effort in things you do. Instead, you will find it a joy to
spend more time and energy or money on it because of
the value of interest that comes with it.
INTEREST
Being interested in what youPdUoNCmTUakAeLsITyYou rise
above the average. The difference between two
students, both studying in a prestigious school,
burdened with high expectations but blessed with the
same capacity to learn – is the one with more interest,
will be more likely to excel. Nothing beats passion and
interest is its best friend. A student who is passionate to
learn will not even wait for guidance and instructions;
he will find ways to quench his thirst of knowledge. In
the process, his understanding and mastery of the
subjects will be superior. Siblings who are raised in the
same household, given the same opportunities to learn
musical instruments might have the similar chance of
becoming excellent but the higher an interest they
have, the more chances that they will train more, which
means investing more in honing their skills thus
becoming way better than those without interest.
To conclude, as said by the famous cook, Julia
Child “Find something that you are passionate about
and keep tremendously interested in it”; this shows,
only with interest, comes passion and we know well
what passionate people can achieve – only the sky is
the limit!

page 09 DILIGENCE
There is no short cut to success. The toil of
years, the sweat of your brow, strPuUgNgCleTUyAoLuITrYmake,
everything counts in achieving the goal. Looking at the
biographies of great men, we find that most of the
successful people whether inventors, artists, scientist,
technocrats, sculptures, thinkers, leaders and workers
of any kind, owe their success to their indefatigable
hard work and dedication. They were the men who
achieved their success with dedication, devotion and
true hard work. This really shows that the secret of
success consisted in being master of our subject. Such
mastery is attainable through continuous effort -
diligence.
Those, who work diligently, not only achieve their
goals and get success, but also remain happy, cheerful
and active, which is itself a great reward even if the
work does not bring success. Idleness or laziness is
worse as it brings jealousy, gloom, frustration,
depression which are more degrading than the failure
itself.
page 10 DILIGENCE
Diligence is when one puts his best effort in
pursuit of excellence. As he reaches nearer to goal, he
will realise that diligence helps. Most of the successful
personalities were determined and devoted fully to
achieve whatever they thought or desired. Diligence is
a sign of enthusiasm because a diligent person is self-
determined and hard working. Failure of any kind do
not deter him but make him more dedicated to
achieve the goal. Failures are natural happenings. Every
successful man faced failures of many kinds but they
worked with more enthusing, more determined zeal.
Most of us know that God help those, who help
themselves and fortune favours the brave. These
proverbs are texts of time and experience of everyday
and still bear force of truth and accuracy.
One should not trifle away the importance of
intelligence, along with diligence. A diligent person
needs to be smart as well. It is the result of both
diligence and intelligentsia, which makes a man
successful. Taking the right decisions, at right time, in a
right manner means that your mind and your bones
are working hard to achieve a goal, undaunted by the
problems with positive thinking. Iron will means
diligence too.
page 11 EFFICIENCY
What is the difference between effectiveness and
eyefftic, itehnecyy?arTeheaylsaorecotmwombounzlyzwmorisdusstehdaPtaUnaNrdeCmTpUoisApinLuItlaTeYrrlpyreutseedd.
When one is being effective, it means he manages to
accomplish a purpose; producing the intended or expected
result. On the other hand, when one is being efficient, he
performs or functions in the best possible manner with the
least waste of time and effort. The difference between
effectiveness and efficiency can be summed up shortly,
sweetly and succinctly as such being effective is about doing
the right things, while being efficient is about doing things
right.
The key of becoming an efficient student is learning
how to study correctly unlike the popular mantra - “study
smart, not hard.” Studying ‘correctly’ require a combination
of both being smart and working hard. These qualities make
the studying right. The reason being is every subject has a
different approach of revising and practising. Identifying the
correct way to excel in a particular subject means you have
to know the gist of the subject. For example, you cannot be
doing revision for Mathematics the way you memorise the
dates and events for History. Language lessons cannot be
crammed in a day before examination unlike, let’s say
Philosophy of Arts. There is no other way to study for writing
paper other than doing a lot of writing practices. An efficient
student is always on the journey of finding the best way to
learn rather than opting for a short cut or last minute
preparation. Doing the right thing while learning – that is
being efficient.
EFFICIENCY
Another key of becoming an efficient
student is to have a specific goal.PSUhNoCrTtUtAeLrImTY goals
and long term goals are both just as important.
Once you have a goal, it is easier to plan the actions
needed to achieve it. Having goals also means that
you are ready. For example, it is understood that if
one plans to pursue Law after high school, she
should maintain good grades in Law-related
subjects such as English and History. In addition, an
efficient decision other than maintaining good
grades is to hone her skills of speaking in front of
others. She should be involved in oratory activities
such as public speaking and debates. This will refine
her characters to fit into the course that she plans to
do and later, a career in the same field too. Soft skills,
especially, are not something one can pick up in a
short time. Therefore, an efficient student takes her
time to build her personality and sharpen the
necessary skills for her future. A future is something
that is inevitable to the inefficient minds, efficient
minds have plans to face it.
page 12
EFFICIENCY
One last key of being an PefUfiNciCeTnUt AstLuITdYent is
focus. An efficient student does not easily get distracted
because he knows that he needs to get something done
right in the right amount of time. Of course, nobody will
question you if you decide to take hours to do an essay.
However, if you know that the allocated time to write
that essay in a test is 45 minutes, you will only use 45
minutes even as practice. Why? Anymore time than
that, it will not show the possible performance that you
could have shown in the test. What is the point of
practising then? Still, being focused for 45 minutes in
your room or at home, is not easy. One can get
distractions from all angles – mom, friends, tv, sibling,
handphones. Only the efficient minds will stay focus on
the task at hand because he knows the importance of
doing the things in the right way.
In conclusion, if you can afford to be both –
efficient and effective – by all means, be both. If at this
particular moment, it seems difficult, do not give up and
still, keep both as your targets. Being efficient and effective
is ideal but if you have to begin, be efficient first.
