KOLEJ ISLAM SULTAN ALAM SHAH
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
HANDBOOK
WHAT IS A PROJECT-BASED LEARNING?
Project Based Learning is a teaching method in
which students gain knowledge and skills by working
for an extended period of time to investigate and
respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex
question, problem, or challenge.
Students work on a project over an extended period
of time – from a week up to a semester – that
engages them in solving a real-world problem or
answering a complex question. They demonstrate
their knowledge and skills by creating a public
product or presentation for a real audience.
HOW PBL BENEFITS LANGUAGE LEARNERS?
PBL is a transformative learning experience designed to
engage language learners with real-world issues and
meaningful target language use through the construction
of products that have an authentic purpose and that are
shared with an audience.
Students develop deep content knowledge as well as
critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and
communication skills. Project Based Learning unleashes a
contagious, creative energy among students and teachers.

THE HISTORY OF M.A.D PROJECT
The Form 6 English Language Unit of Kolej Islam Sultan
Alam Shah first organised the project in 2018 as
an initiative to encourage students to use
English language in a more realistic situation.
Initially planned as an annual programme, the unit is
glad to bring back the project which has been halted by
the many unforeseen circumstances.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE PROJECT 2018
The students in 2018 were assigned a project to propose either a
new aspect or an improved element for KISAS. The proposals
ranged from permission to wear shoes in the dining hall, additional
printers for students, permission to wear muslimah t-shirt for
prep class, upgrades for gymnasium and more products and
services in Koperasi KISAS.
A one-day exhibition was carried out at Center of Excellence and
the exhibition was a resounding success not only for the
participants who used English to explain their proposals - but to
the audience who came and listened to these proposal as they got
to vote, support and sign petitions for the proposal.
We hope, with the grace of Allah, these students had gained
significant experience - proving that nothing is impossible to a
willing heart and mind.
