Frequently Asked Question Answers

Safety

• All students must always be wearing a visible student ID above the waist once they enter the building. Students that
do not have an ID will be required to acquire a new badge before the beginning of the school day.

• The first two ID badges will be free of charge. After that time, a $5 fee will be accessed to the students account.
Safety is our top priority.

• Please work with your student to make it a habit to put on their ID as they leave the house.

Instructional Information & Campus Communication

• Every Sunday by midnight, all teachers will update their gradebooks so that you as parents, after that time each week
can log in to Skyward to see an accurate reflection of your child’s average in each of their classes. Please work
alongside your child’s teachers in checking your students’ grades with them weekly through Skyward.

• Additionally, every Sunday by midnight, each of your students’ classroom teachers will be sending a “Week-At-A-
Glance” (WAAG). This will include any announcements, upcoming units of study, major or daily assignments due
dates that are upcoming, and any other pertinent information they may need to share. They will send these “Week-
At-A-Glance” (WAAG) through email through Skyward or Outlook. We are hopeful this keeps you informed of all that
is happening in each of their classes.

• For campus level communications, I will send a Bulldog Bark each Friday at 4:00 p.m starting August 23rd. This will
include all school-wide happenings and upcoming events or announcements. This will be in email and will be sent to
the contact’s email address(es) listed in Skyward.

• We also have a Brookside Intermediate School Facebook page, you can also follow us on twitter at @Bulldogs_IS, and
on Instagram at brooksidebulldogs.

Schedules & Lockers

• If there is an error in your student’s schedule, student schedule request forms will be available starting the first day
of school in the Front Office and Student Center.

• Teachers will assist students with lockers the first day of school during first period. If the problem cannot be
resolved, a new locker will be issued to the student in the Student Center.

Absences

• If your child misses school, bring a note within 3 days of the time of the absence from the doctor or a
parent/guardian and turn into the front office. After the 3 days, the absence is unexcused. If there are more than 3
unexcused absences in a 4-week period, a letter will be sent from Harris County DA.

Deliveries, Lunch, & Student Messages

• Regarding deliveries to during the school day, we treasure the instructional time for our students during school
hours. Per the student handbook, the office will not deliver items to students during class time. However, you may
bring the item to the front office, label it, and place it in the bookshelf. We let students know during lunches that
their items are available for pick up. This includes clothes, lunches, laptop, homework, etc.

• Students are not allowed to leave campus for lunch. If parents insist on taking students to lunch, students will receive
an unexcused absence for the time missed.

• Per district policy, the only persons allowed to have lunch with their child are their parents/guardians per their
enrollment paperwork. Lunch visitors must be listed on student's Skyward profile.

• No outside food deliveries are allowed from companies such as DoorDash, UberEats, Waitr, etc.

• Parents should be assured that their students will never be denied lunch for lack of funds in their lunch account.
Students may not get what they want, but they will never be denied food to eat. Students may go to the Student
Center or Front Office if they do not have lunch money. One of our staff members will take them to the cafeteria and
help them get something to eat.

• Parents may add money to student's lunch account online or may come to BIS and will be allowed to go to the
cafeteria to add money. NOTE: Funds deposited online do not appear immediately. It could take up to 24/48 hours to
appear in their child's account.

• Parents may, personally, bring in lunch for students. Parents will need to write the student's name on a label
provided, place on the items and then place lunch on the designated Student Items shelf in the Front Office. Lunches
will be taken to the administrator on duty at the beginning of each lunch period and the administrator will call the
student to come pick up their lunch. Students will need to wait in the commons until called to pick up their lunch and
will not be allowed to gather in the front office waiting for lunch delivery. Lunches must be delivered prior to or
during student's lunch period. Students will not be called down after their lunch period has passed, as this disrupts
the class and instructional time.

• Parents bringing in food may bring food for only their child. Food may not be brought in to be shared with friends.

• No "birthday party" or "celebration" lunches are permitted at the intermediate level. However, you are welcome to
come eat with your child or bring lunch for them to enjoy.

• Phone messages will only be given to students in case of an emergency. Students will be able to use the student
phone in the office between classes and during their lunch to prevent interruption instructional times.

• No visits with students during instructional time unless prior arrangements have been made with principal and
teacher. Students will not be called out of class to come to the office to talk.

Transportation & Pick-up/Drop-off

• All intermediate campus in the district can open their doors at 7:30. Brookside will open the car rider door only at
7:30 am for students to enter the building.

• For student safety, drop off and pick up is only located in the small parking lot near the front office entrance. Cars
are not to pick up or drop off from the large parking lot located parallel to FM 528. This area is for buses only. We do
not want to put our students in a situation that is not safe.

• For Student Safety, students may not be dropped off by car in the bus lanes from 7:15-9:00 a.m. in the morning and
3:00-4:30 p.m. in the afternoons. The bus lane is in the large parking lot that faces FM 528. During the times
mentioned above, all car riders must be dropped off and picked up in the car rider line at the side of the school
nearest the main entrance (with the smaller parking lot for visitors/guests).

• Students may not be signed out of school through the front office after 2:55 p.m. for Science Magnet students
(students on the 8:00-3:10 p.m. schedule) and 3:40 p.m. for Brookside students (students on the 8:50-4:00 p.m.).

• Students must be present for 50% of the class in order to not be counted absent for that class period. If you need to
check out your student at the end of the day, you may do so in the front office before 3:40 pm.

• Changes in transportation must be made in writing and signed by the parent/guardian. Students should turn these
notes in to the front office in the morning. Due to safety reasons, we are unable to take changes in transportation
over the phone. Per the CCISD new transportation policy, medical emergencies or a parent/guardian are out of town
are the only two reasons acceptable for bus transfers

• Students will only be released to adults age 18 and over. Any adult, other than immediate family/guardian, who may
pick up students must be listed in Skyward as an emergency contact. Persons must show a valid ID when they come
to pick up the student.

• The transportation department only allows students to transfer bussed for a medical emergency or a
parent/guardian are out of town. Transfer slips can be obtained from the front office. A note is required for a
transfer approve from the parent of both the transfer student and the receiving student.

• All car riders must be dropped off at the east side of the building. During afternoon dismissal for car rider pick up, we
will be running a clockwise when facing the school circle drive pick- up. We will ask all students to wait up by the
building as parents circle around before entering their car. Please do not ask nor allow your child to come across the
school grounds and enter your car while still on FM 528. This is extremely dangerous. The Friendswood Police
Department, along with the Galveston County School Liaison Department will be monitoring this very closely in order
to keep our children safe.

• All walkers must use the crosswalks at the intersection of Bay Area and Blackhawk. The police departments will be
closely monitoring this to ensure our children’s safety. Citations will be given for jaywalking. Please have a
conversation with your child regarding using the crosswalks at all times. We have trained crossing guards at both
intersections during arrival and dismissal.

• Please do not park in fire lanes or designated handicap spots. Parent parking is on the east side of the school along
the fence line.

• Please do not park at Sonic to pick up your student. This blocks their business and impedes traffic.

• Parents/guardians must come in to check student in when student is tardy to school or returning after being checked
out. Parent does not need to come in with the student, IF student was at a doctor's appointment and presents a note
from the doctor, on doctor's letterhead, to Ms. McCabe immediately upon return to school.

Dress Code, Cell Phones, & Other Policies

• For campus safety, all students and staff must be wearing a visible student ID above the waist at all times once they
enter the building. Students that do not have an ID will be required to acquire a new badge before the beginning of
the school day. The first two ID badges will be free of charge. After that time, a $5 fee will be accessed to the
students account. Safety is our top priority. Please work with your student to make it a habit to put on their ID as
they leave the house. be worn in the building at any time for campus security reasons. Additionally, blankets are not
allowed.

• No major changes were made to the dress code. A reminder that all bottoms must be mid thigh and any holes must
be below the mid thigh area. Form fitting bottoms must have an appropriate length short, shirt or dress that covers
the bottom. No large jackets, hoodies, or hats are allowed to be worn in the building. Blankets are not allowed.

• Per the student handbook, cell phones and one ear bud may only be used before the first morning bell, in the
Commons during lunch, and after school. Cell phones may only be used in the classroom with teacher permission for
instructional purposes.

CCISD Dress Code
2019-2020

(Several CCISD schools have adopted standardized dress codes. Please contact your child’s school to verify if there
is a standardized dress code and to obtain a list of the dress code guidelines. Students attending campuses with
approved standardized dress codes will also adhere to District dress code requirements.)

The Clear Creek ISD Dress Code is established to teach grooming, hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption,
avoid safety hazards, teach respect for authority, and prepare our students for the future. Students whose religious
beliefs require exemptions from the District’s Dress Code in any way may be granted an exemption, provided the
student presents a written statement, expressing a religious objection to the Dress Code that the District determines
is bona fide.

Accordingly, the following shall apply:

• During normal school hours, secondary students shall be required to visibly wear identification badges (ID’s).
• For students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade, no visible body piercing other than a student’s ears will be

allowed (e.g., no tongue piercing).
• No visible tattoos will be allowed.
• Appropriate clothing and shoes in good repair are required.
• Appropriate clothing shall cover midriff, shoulders and upper chest.
• No pajamas or undergarments shall be visible at any time.
• Inappropriate shoes include, but are not limited to, shower shoes, house slippers, and “heelies” (roller shoes).
• Any garment, regardless of what it is called, must be worn no shorter than mid-thigh.
• Pants or shorts shall be appropriately sized and worn at the natural waistline and shall not expose skin above

mid-thigh
• Shirts may be required to be tucked in unless they are designed to be worn over the waistline and do not

exceed four inches below the waistline.
• For students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade, tights, form fitting pants, leggings, jeggings, spandex,

exercise pants, and yoga pants must be covered by mid length shorts, skirts, or long shirts which cover the
bottom.
• For high school students, inappropriate tights, form fitting pants, leggings, jeggings, spandex, exercise pants,
and yoga pants must be covered by mid length shorts, skirts, or long shirts which cover the bottom.
• No clothes, jewelry, and other accessories that contain suggestive, inappropriate, or vulgar slogans or images,
or advertise or depict tobacco products, alcohol, drugs, or any other items prohibited at school.
• Spiked and/or leather accessories and/or chains are not permitted (wallets, etc.)
• Any type of garment that can be interpreted as gang-related is not allowed on campus during school hours or
at any school-related activity.
• Any non-religious head coverings (including but not limited to hats, caps, and jacket hoods) are not allowed
to be worn on campus during school hours.
• Trench coats or oversized jackets are not allowed on campus during school hours
• Sunglasses may not be worn in the building.
• Clothing/hair styles, which in the judgment of the building administrators, pose a health or safety hazard and/or
disrupt the educational process are not permitted.

Failure to comply will result in the student being required to change clothes. All class time missed is considered an
unexcused absence. The building administrators determine whether a student’s dress is appropriate. Repeated
offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action. Appropriate discipline procedures shall be followed in all
cases. Campuses may insist that all bags, backpacks, gym bags, etc., remain in a student’s locker throughout the
school day.
