While it can be said that the Opal Star itself is
a project of passion and love, this interview and
magazine around it is precisely that. Our project,
our lives, of passion and love.

HMS Opal Star is a great many things. It’s a room in 3DX. Its a world built
around a room. Its story built around a Sci-fi fantasy. Its a story about the
creator. Its an event. Its a party. Its passion project. Its a DJ’s performance
room. It was at the center of contraversary at times. It launched loving
relationships. It drew people together. It made friends. It made a family. Its a
room designed for sex and love making. Its a room designed for the users to
find love. Its for exploration. Its for dancing. All these things and more can
be said about HMS Opal Star.
And while it can be said that the Opal Star itself is a project of passion and
love, this interview and magazine around it is precisely that. Our project, our
lives, of passion and love. This magazine is a peek, a temporary and limited
view into the lives that created (on Amy’s part) and helped propel (both Amy
and myself ) the Opal Star as a fixture in the 3DX community.
It is often said that Amy and I are an anomoly of 3DX, the length and
the solidarity of relationship is by no means unique but is rare among the
majority of 3DX players and how connected we are to each other, how much
our lives have intertwined within and without 3DX is really part of the story
of how and why HMS Opal Star came to be.
One way to put it is like this: The Opal Star is Amy Trubblemaker and I.
Amy and I are the Opal Star. And while our family of crew members have
grown beyond just us two, the story of the Opal Star is us.
We are the Opal Star.

JESSICAX “ I met Amy…. in Aug
I recently contacted AmyTrubblemaker & We met in Space Girl’s
Sinthea to see if they would be interested in went head to head on S
doing an interview. So after a week or so, we lost but I remember us
finally found some time to sit down and talk.
Here’s is the exclusive interview with the creators/

hosts of The Opal Star.

Jess: First of all, I want to thank you both
for taking the time to sit down with me
and allowing me to pick your brains a little.
Second, I want to admit that I have loved
the Opal Star from the 1st moment that I
entered. I was quite literally in shock at the
attention to detail and the overall design
and ambiance that was created. It truly is a
work of art.

Could you please tell me a little
bit about yourselves?

Amy: Hi, I’m Amy. I live in Canada and
have been playing 3dx for a year and a
half.

The Huntress (Sinthea): rolls my eyes and
giggles Amy is much more than that. She’s
my 3dx wife, my partner both in and out
of crime, she plays Star Citizen with me in
my org, plus a host of other games. Before
the pandemic, she saved lives on a daily
basis and she is a creative genius.

Amy: I saved one thankless life of a bratty
child lol (was a lifeguard)

The Huntress (Sinthea): Hi, I’m The
Huntress. In 3dx, I go by Sinthea, and I
have been playing 3DX for a few fewer
months than Amy. About 4 fewer months

How did you two initially
meet?

The Huntress (Sinthea): I met Amy….
in August probably of 2019? We met in
Space Girl’s space trivia room. We went
head to head on Space Trivia… I think
I lost but I remember us both getting
naked. grins I also noticed Amy, primarily
as a kindred soul, we both had a serious
love of Space. And that’s pretty hard to
find in a sex-game. So I just took a mental
note of her name then. It wasn’t until later
that AmyTrubblemaker came up again in
my life.

What is the
Opal Star?

OK so... what exactly is the Opal Star?

Amy: The Opal Star is a 3dx nightclub room themed as
a spaceship. It is fully realized inside and out, meaning
that it has a fully modeled interior and exterior. It has
everything you would expect of a luxury cruise ship.
It has all the functional stuff: A bridge, briefing room,
captain’s office, captain’s quarters, mainframe, a medical
facility, a shuttle bay, an engine room, engines, and
defenses. It also has all the amenities for passengers:
Private cabins, a massage room, a clinic, a restaurant,
a ballroom, a nightclub, a swimming pool, hot tubs, a
fountain, it even has a park with trees!

The Huntress (Sinthea): shakes my head and smiles 01. The Opal Star

function of 3DX. The Opal Star is not just a spaceship. Station near the

is a personality. It is a story. It is about people coming
together to do something positive. Finally, I think the
Opal Star is more about the people that are touched by
its existence, not least of all, Amy and I. To this point,
the characters she created for the ship, AIMIE, inspired
me to name my Tesla after that A.I.

Captain Amy celebrating starship or otherwise, that I have seen that is like the Opal Star. It is really a unique

06.

For seven years, I’ve been a deep backer of a special gaming project called Star Citizen. 06.
In that game, there is a ship called the 890 Jump that essentially has the same function HMS Opal Star visits
as the Opal Star, a Space Luxury Cruise Liner, but just in a different form. I was San Francisco, Earth after

called “An Architect Reviews the 890 Jump.” You see, I do see Amy as an architect.
Her thought process and creative process mimics exactly what architects do. Little
did I know at the time but she watched the video on her trip and this would help
her finalize some part of the Opal Star that was giving her trouble. That connection
with the 890 Jump would stick with us until much later in our budding relationship.
Since that time, we talked a lot about the 890 Jump as it relates to our Star Citizen
experience that we share together. We crew it together in Star Citizen. Have RP stories
going on there. Later on, it would take on a lesser but important role in putting on
the Opal Star experience.

Amy: “Mastermind” is a bit of a stretch lol. But I am the builder.

The Huntress (Sinthea): It’s an understatement. Continuing off our meeting at
the trivia contest, at the time, my ex pointed Amy out to me as someone building a

The Yin/Yang of
Creation

The Huntress (Sinthea): Absolutely right. I think our creative process is a bit different though in a good
way. For me, my creative process is less vague in the beginning. But, saying that, I think that Amy is the
true artist. I’m more of a street brawler when it comes to actual art and creation. I actually start with
a clear vision in my mind of what I want and I try to do it in the editor and quickly fuck up and start
over and get frustrated and scream and cry and then Amy comes along to help. Start over and avoiding
the pitfalls, using the techniques she showed me, I’m able to bring it closer to my original vision. Now
I’m at the stage where I am going to be building the 890 Jump from the ground up, mostly on my own.
elbows Amy Using the 890 Jump room as a stage to show off how a build like this progresses to our guests
as well. I intended to open it as the construction of the starship above the sea-going version of the vessel
continues.

Could you please explain more about 890 Jump and how this ties in with
The Opal Star?

20 >>> Creative Process

The Huntress (Sinthea): So jump forward a few months, we eventually got married
in 3DX and started to put on Opal Star events on a regular basis. More on how the
two of us come together on that later. But it was around this time that I was wanting
to give a platform for DJs to shine. DJing in 3DX means that you have to seek your
performance slots, go by the timeframes and time zones of the hosts, and usually
curtail your genre of music to the host’s needs and desires. There isn’t a ton of creative
freedom there. So I wanted to design a room to turn that on its head completely. We
would pick a DJ to “Showcase”. That DJ determines when they can play, how long
their set is, and what genre they want to play. I had this other terrestrial luxury liner
room (sea-worthy vessel) that was part of a publicly shared build. I tore it apart from
its island and changed it around a bunch and called it the 890 Jump, in honor of the
Opal Star and her sister ship in Star Citizen. This also allowed us to schedule “a break”,
once a month for a week for Amy to break from the mad rush of a build and to give
us some time together. So it served two purposes, a simple way to take breaks from the
Opal Star without losing audience/guest interest and to showcase new and veteran DJs
who would, potentially, also appear in the Opal Star line-up.

So for me, this particular build isn’t one where I am free-form creating. As far as free-
form creating, I am doing some free-form creating with our camping ground project
where I am working with naturalistic environments. For the 890 Jump, I even took
01. it as far as building a dry dock inspired by Star Trek for its new construction area and
measured the exact length, width, and height of the ship so that I get it’s dimensioning
01. right. Coincidentally, the actual 890 Jump is pretty close in dimensions to the Opal

When I was building the engine room, I was
trying to think of what powered the ship and
borrowed an idea from an old Japanese anime
called Robotech where the power source was
generated by the fission of organic cells held
in stasis. So for the Opal Star, I made a weird

Amy: Well I’ve read and watched a lot of science
fiction. When I was little, my dad exposed me to
a lot of sci-fi in his library cuz he’s a huge dork

by (or ripped off from) stuff I like.
For the core narrative, I had originally intended

which only AIMIE could obtain.
On a week-to-week basis, I don’t have a lot of

STATUS BOARD

The bridge, the command center of the Opal Star, is not only adorned
with the Opal Star status board in the conference room but is also
the home of the dedication plaque made by the Huntress herself to
commerate the the one year anniversary of their marriage. Their names

engraved in Japanese, sharing the final character in each.

The Huntress (Sinthea): See! I never knew that about the engine core being inspired by Robotech’s
protoculture matrix concept. It just seemed natural to me as part of the AIMIE story. I would say she
has the talent of seamlessly integrating concepts into her unique lore. And it’s not just the lore, plots,
and timelines where I keep discovering new things. Amy might be disappointed with me a bit but
every time I visit the Opal Star, even when it’s in my own editor to grab a screenshot or something, I
discover something new about it (and Amy) that I didn’t notice before. It’s not just an exaggeration.
She has such a refined process for creating everything down to the little details, it’s like exploring a new
world every time. And I love her for that.
As far as Chapter/Episode collaboration goes, I think one of the first times that we collaborated on a
full chapter was the Citadel Station Chapter, the birthplace of AIMIE storyline where, her sister A.I.,
ANNIE was also created and tried to digitally absorb the crew and guests of the Opal Star. I created
the ANNIE character, helped Amy figure out and design the clues that would leave the guests to
discovering what happened to the station’s human crew and I ended up playing ANNIE and actually
drove the “climax” of the story during one of our openings as ANNIE. And yes, ANNIE took on more
lewd/free-thinking when it comes to sexual experiences. *grins* At one point, ANNIE was going to be
a total whore with all the guests but we shied away from that given that, while kinky, we are not really
like that ourselves. That kind of collaboration doesn’t happen all the time, we just don’t have ourselves
that well organized to do that consistently but I am eternally grateful to Amy for that opportunity to
collaborate in the process.
Since then, I have contributed collaboratively in different ways in the chapters and it’s become part of
our “system” for churning our events out now.

It’s been a year and a half now since
the Opal Star opened, and it went
from a starport on Earth to the Sun, to
Hyperspace, to a nebula, a science-fiction
version of Hell (for Halloween), an ocean
planet, a planet of dragons, a tropical
island inhabited by cat people (or first
shore leave!), a desert planet spectating
a rally race, a stargate, a space station
(second shore leave), cyberspace, a planet
taken over by an evil alien computer, a
space battle, a sanctioned giant robot
battle, Uranus, Mercury, and finally back
on Earth flying under the golden gate
bridge.
Now we are embarking on our second
journey, and already we’ve seen the Opal
Star in drydock (built by Sinthea!) getting
refitted with some upgrades, a starport
in Egypt overlooking the pyramids,
and coming up on the 20th, a newly
constructed stargate in orbit around
Earth, where we take off to explore galaxy
once again!

The Huntress (Sinthea): As far as music
goes, we are both pretty eclectic and
diverse. I think there are few things you
won’t hear at the Opal Star is death/speed
metal and singers who are screaming or
roaring in your ears. You might hear a
dragon roar but not a singer. *grins* Also,
we shy away from Country music since it
doesn’t fit the time period and setting of
the Opal Star (not that Western themes
can’t belong in Sci-fi. I think we’ve all
seen Firefly and the Mandalorian prove
that.) We are just beyond talking about
our pickup truck and making things
“‘Murican”-centric in the 30th century.
Little known facts, but we also have a
collection of theme music, both sci-fi, and
orchestration driven, for the Opal Star
herself. These are often played before the
first announcement rolls.

What sets it
apart?

What would you say sets the Opal Star
apart from other rooms in 3DX?

Amy: That’s hard for me to answer objectively so I will
let Sin answer for me. But let me just say, as much as I
love it when my friends tell me I am a “master” builder,
I am constantly floored by the creativity of a lot of other
rooms out there. There are builders who build rooms
that just shine beauty and craftsmanship. Stuff I can
understand how they were built, but which also I could
never build.

The Huntress (Sinthea): Easy answer for me. First, 01. The ÄngelhjärtA
