2016
Our 42nd Year
ConwayScenic.com
In the 42 years since Conway Scenic Railroad
opened as a tourist railroad, the North Conway area
has grown into a four-season resort community offer-
ing a wealth of lodging and dining choices, tax-free
shopping, and almost limitless recreational oppor-
tunities. Surrounded by the White Mountain National
Forest, our visitors can enjoy hiking, biking, golfing,
alpine and x-country skiing, as well as numerous
quality family attractions….all within a few minutes of
each other.
We offer an old-fashioned railroading experience
here, traveling in vintage equipment over tracks that
were laid in the 1870s. Our goal is to preserve a piece
of New Hampshire’s railroading history for all to enjoy
for generations to come. Thank you for supporting
our efforts, and enjoy your visit!
WeAlcboomaerd!
Enjoy an old-fashioned railroading experience on vin-
tage trains, all departing from our 1874 Victorian station in
the heart of North Conway Village. Whether you choose one
of the Valley routes to Conway or Bartlett, or the legendary
Crawford Notch excursion, this is a step back in time that
the whole family will enjoy.
Our trains are powered by diesel electric locomotives for
most of the season and by our self-propelled Budd Rail Die-
sel Car, the Millie, which runs midweek for the first three
weeks in May and the last week in October.
Crawford Station, also completed in 1874.
Update on 7470
Our 1921 steam engine will be out of service
for the 2016 season while we continue to perform a major
federally-mandated inspection and overhaul. The work is
taking place right here in our roundhouse with the aid of
a specialized contractor. Once completed, 7470 will be
ready to run for another 15 year cycle. 7470 is the very first
locomotive that Conway Scenic owned and operated and it
is also the only coal fired standard gauge steam locomotive
that operates in the state of New Hampshire. We know that
this engine has a special place in the hearts of many who
come to ride our
railroad! Look for
7470 to return
sometime
in 2017.
Valley Tr
On the Valley Train, you’ll enjoy an authentic
railroading experience as you journey on historic rail
routes from our 1874 train station in North Conway Village
to either Conway or Bartlett and back again.
The 11-mile, 55-minute Conway Valley Train is ideal for
visitors wanting a shorter train ride, especially those with
young children. On this excursion, you’ll travel south past
the Moat Mountain Range and parallel Route 16 before
passing through farmlands and crossing the Saco River,
Moat Brook, and Swift River on the way to Conway. Here,
you can watch the powerful locomotive “run around” for
the return trip.
The 21 mile, 1¾ hour Bartlett Valley Train offers a longer
and more relaxing train ride that takes you “over the river
and through the woods.” You’re invited to sit back and
enjoy the passing scenery as you travel northwest through
fields and woodlands, crossing the East Branch, Saco and
Ellis Rivers on the way to Bartlett. Here you also have the
opportunity to watch the locomotive “run around” for the
return trip to North Conway.
Children under 4 always ride free in
Coach on the Valley Trains!

Spacious first class seating aboard
the beautifully restored Pullman Parlor-Observation Car
Gertrude Emma is offered on all Valley Train departures.
Built in 1898 for use on the “Pennsylvania Limited,”
the Gertrude Emma has been restored to its original
splendor with individual wicker chairs,
large double-wide windows, rich
mahogany woodwork, and an open
observation platform.
The Gertrude Emma, with its
unique and elegant interior, may be
chartered for weddings, anniversary
parties, corporate functions, and
other special occasions.

The Dining CarChocorua
Relive the golden days
of railroading as you travel
aboard the elegant Dining Car,
Chocorua, on the Valley Trains.
Built by the Pullman Company
in 1929, The Chocorua offers
a First-Class dining experience,
complete with friendly and
attentive service, in a beautiful
oak-paneled restaurant where the
views are constantly changing.
All meals are prepared on board to your order and served
with warm, friendly Yankee hospitality by our restaurant
partners, the culinary team at Attitash Resort. The Chocorua
is climate controlled, has a full liquor license, a complete
wine list, and is a smoke-free environment. With advance
notice, special dietary needs can be accommodated easily.
In the true spirit and tradition of railroad dining, you may
be seated at tables of four with other Dining Car guests.
From June 10 through October 23, 2016, lunch is served
daily on the Valley trains. You may choose between
the 11:30 Bartlett departure, approximately 1¾ hours
roundtrip, and the 1:30 Conway departure, approximately 1
hour roundtrip. A 6:00 departure with dining is offered on
selected evenings June 10 through October 9, plus June 11
& 18 and October 21 & 22 and 28 & 29
for our Murder Mystery evenings.
Dining on the rails is a tradition
dating back to the mid-to-late
19th Century, when railroads
across the country began
offering meal service as an al-
ternative to the roadhouses that
were located at their water stops.
As competition among the railroads
increased, dining car service was taken to new levels, and
today, a fascination with this tradition continues.
For complete details, including menus offered on the
Chocorua, please visit ConwayScenic.com. To ask ques-
tions, or to make reservations, please call 603-356-9009.

TheNotch
On the Notch Train, you’ll travel on what was
once the Maine Central Railroad’s famed Mountain Division
line, on tracks that were laid down in the 1870s. Enjoy
some of the most dramatic natural scenery in the East
as you travel through spectacular Crawford Notch – past
sheer bluffs, steep ravines, cascading brooks and streams,
panoramic mountain vistas, across Frankenstein Trestle
and Willey Brook Bridge – enroute to Crawford and Fabyan
stations. As you travel through this rugged terrain, you can
begin to appreciate what a remarkable engineering achieve-
ment constructing this railroad was over 140 years ago. Live
commentary onboard includes history and folklore of the
railroad and area, as well as points of interest.
On all excursions, there is a lay-over at Crawford Station
ranging from 55 to 25 minutes, depending on the season.
This allows our passengers to get off the train and explore
their beautiful surroundings.
Coach seating or climate-con-
trolled First Class seating both
are available. In First Class,
choose either the CP Reed or the
Dorthea Mae (Dome Car), both
originally built in the mid-50s for trans-
continental service in Canada and the United States
respectively. The Upper Dome, shown here, can accommo-
date 20 passengers and is considered Premium seating.
The newest addition to our fleet of rail cars is #6749, the
Mt. Webster. Built in 1952 for service in the Montreal Com-
muter Pool, it was completely reconfigured in 2014 from a
coach into a First Class “Table Car.” Climate controlled, this
car is especially comfortable for those Notch Train passen-
gers who purchase our box lunches.
Weather permitting, an Open Coach is available for all
passengers to enjoy.
An onboard snack bar offers a limited selection of individu-
ally priced sandwiches, snacks, and beverages for purchase.
Box lunches are available if pre-ordered with your reserva-
tion. First Class passengers also have the option of enjoying
a 3-course luncheon aboard the elegant Dining Car Hattie
Evans as part of the Notch Train First Class package.
The Notch Train operates from June 14
through October 23 in 2016.
Train
TheHattie
Evans
The dining car Hattie
Evans was built by Pullman
Standard in 1949 for the Norfolk
& Western Railroad as a D-1 class
Dining Car and later became part of the
original Chuck Wagon Restaurant in Lewiston,
Maine. She was then acquired by the Maine Rail Group
before we bought and rehabilitated her for service on the
Crawford Notch trains.
The Hattie has an oak interior, original oil murals, and
beautiful, customized booths with seating for 48 passengers.
As with the Chocorua on the Valley Trains, Hattie is climate
controlled, has a full liquor license, a complete wine list,
and is a smoke-free environment. Special dietary needs can
be accommodated easily with advance notice. In the true
spirit and tradition of railroad dining, you may be seated at
tables of four with other dining car guests.
The Notch Train, with Hattie in its consist, departs at 11:00
a.m. on Tues/Wed/ Thurs/Sat, June 14 through September
1, Tues/Thurs/Sat September 3-8, then daily September 10
to October 23. Two luncheon seatings are offered: one (Up)
on the way through Crawford Notch and one on the return
trip (Down). Dining on the Hattie may only be enjoyed as
part of a Notch Train First Class Package, which includes
First Class seating, lunch, beverage service roundtrip, light
refreshments, and personalized service. For complete
details, including menus, please visit ConwayScenic.com.
