Tioman Island is located 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The island is
some 39 km long and up to 12 km wide. First discovered by Chinese and Arab seafarers
and traders around a thousand years ago, the island was a source to replenish their
fresh water resources and was also a navigational aid. Tioman lies about 56 km of coast
in the federal state of Pahang. The island is known for its wonderful diving and
snorkeling activities.

Tioman is covered by one of the oldest
rainforests on earth, which is habitat for many
endemic species and which is protected by law.
The highest peak is Gunung Kajang, towering
over the jungle at 1038m, it can be seen from
as far as Mersing.

The island is sparsely inhabited and its
surrounding islands and coral reefs make it a
popular scuba destination. The widest known
dive site is Coral Island (Pulau Tulai) in the
north. There are some 8 villages on the island
and around 18 beaches, most of them still very
pristine and only accessible by boat.

Now, there are many resorts on the island,
catering for every type of travellers. Tioman is
a duty – free island, which means some items
are much cheaper compared to prices at the
mainland. Overall the island has a very tranquil
atmosphere. The inland of Tioman is covered in
thick jungle while the edges of the island are
populated.

Tioman is popular among those that like fishing. Deep-sea fishing trips can be
arranged at many places on the island.
There are quite a few jungle treks in Tioman. These are perfect for light jungle
treks. Two popular treks are from Tekek to Juara and from Tekek all the way to
Monkey Bay.
Great beaches are Genting Beach, Tekek Beach and Salang Beach. At these
beaches there are aquatic sports operators (kayaking, surfing, wakeboarding and
jet skiing).
Tioman has many nice waterfalls that you can visit. Some are easily accessible,
others require a light trek or a short boat ride. One of the most popular
waterfall in Tioman Island is the Mukut Waterfall. During weekends, locals hang
out here to relax with their friends or families. Another beautiful waterfall is
the Asah Waterfall. It is located about 6 km from Mukut Village. People can get
there by either doing a 45 minutes trek or by arranging a boat trip.
Tioman is well known as a diving and snorkeling paradise. There are numerous
dive schools here. Meanwhile, non-divers can enjoy snorkeling at one of the many
snorkeling sites around the island.

Tioman Island lies off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, in the South China
Sea. It’s a nature reserve, ringed by beaches. The area is known for its dive
sites, which have corals, sea fans and sea sponges as well as shipwrecks. The
island is covered in tropical rainforests, home to butterflies, lizards and
monkeys. On the east coast, the Juara Turtle Project is a hatchery that protects
and studies sea turtles - Google
