A year is a long time. You can meet new people, go to new places, and grow as a person. This year, I began high school. This brought a great deal of change into my life. There were a lot of good moments, and some hard ones too, but the important thing I learned was to preserve and keep going. During my Intro to Journalism class, there were a lot of different skills that I learned and this publication is my way of presenting the work from this year. This class has taught me a lot about the ins and outs of journalism but also a great deal of life skills. This publication showcases different talents from throughout the year and shows the improvement within this time. A lot of time and work has been put into it and I am looking forward to sharing it with you. This year I become a better writer, designer, and most importantly a better person. I hope that you enjoy this publication. Sincerely, Maddie Haugk LETER FROM THE EDITOR 2

As Allyson Cromleigh grew up she hated history. She went through her high school years despising that class, but it all changed when she reached college. At Miami University, Cromleigh studied political science and psychology and began to love history. She had some amazing teachers who changed the way she thought and she wants to do the same for her students. Cromleigh’s father’s job required her family to move around a lot as a child and that negatively impacted her. She has lived in Pittsburgh, California, and Dublin, Ohio. To try and get connected with students at the new schools, she played volleyball, cheered, and was involved in numerous clubs. “It was hard to connect with people at frst. Being the new kid is never easy but I think getting involved with so many things helped,” Cromleigh said. She wanted to become a lawyer to help fght injustices but that lifestyle wasn’t for her. Cromleigh instead became a history teacher because she wanted to spend her life helping kids. She wants to continue to make a difference in students’ lives and inspire them to be better versions of themselves. “I think everyone has a story and no one knows what is going on in each other’s lives. We come to school and put a smile on our faces but we don’t know what people are going through. So if everyone was just nice and caring to one another, I think school would be a completely different place, ” Cromleigh said. This is Cromleigh’s second year teaching at Berlin, before that she worked at Olentangy Liberty High School for three years. She worked at Liberty from straight out of graduate school and while she enjoyed teaching, parts of working at Liberty were hard. The number of mental health issues there is a lot higher than in any other school she has worked at. “Teaching at liberty is tough. There is a lot of mental health going on there. It’s everywhere but I think after having numerous students commit suicide … I was just like, I can’t do it, ” Cromleigh said. Cromleigh moved over to Berlin after that and has loved being here ever since. The culture here is much more positive and welcoming and it feels like people can belong. ERAS TOUR RECIEVES EXCITMENT FROM FANS Taylor Swift has recently begun her anticipated Eras Tour. It has brought many fans together who all want to see Swift. Swift announced the tour in November after the release of her tenth studio album, “Midnights”. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic she has not yet toured her albums, “Lover”, “Folklore”, “Evermore”, “Red (Taylor’s Version)”, “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)”, and “Midnights”. Swifties have speculated about her tour announcement for about a year, and many were thrilled when she fnally released it. After the announcement of American dates, many fans had hoped to purchase tickets. Through Ticketmaster, fans could sign up for presale. Millions more fans than expected did this than they originally thought. Most tickets are now sold out but some can still be found on retailers such as Ticketmaster and Vivid Seats. Many fans were disappointed that they were not able to purchase tickets but that hasn’t stopped them from participating in the tour festivities. Swifties have taken to social media to post and share about the Eras Tour. Instagram and TikTok have become especially popular to share different concert tips and tricks. The usage has been fueled because Swift has liked and commented on different TikToks. This tour is set to become the highest grossing tour of all time. Swift reportedly makes $9 million per concert. At some of her recent concerts, the city that the venue is in has surprised Swift with an honor. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor announced on social media that to welcome Swift, they would give her a key to the city and make her honorary Mayor. Glendale, Arizona temporarily changed its name to Swift City and Arlington, Virginia gave her a key to the city. Swift has released periodical merchandise drops after the release of Midnights and then the tour announcements. It has been hard for some fans to be able to purchase this merchandise at concerts because of the high demand. Most of these products are also available at Taylorswift. com. There has been some controversy with Swift’s merchandise. After fans have purchased merchandise from concerts they have reported that the screen printing on the apparel has faded and washed away. Taylor Nation (Swift’s management company) has reassured other fans that this issue has been fxed. No matter how much of a fan you are of Taylor Swift, there is so much to enjoy about the Era’s Tour. INHERITANCE GAMES IMPRESSES AUDIENCES “The Inheritance Games” is a thrilling read by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. It follows a teen girl named Avery Grambs who has had a very hard life. She abruptly receives the news that she will inherit the late billionaire Tobias Hawthorne’s fortune. She went from living in her car to living in the massive Hawthorne House. There was only one condition with her inheritance, that she must live there with Tobias’s family for a year. This includes his four grandsons who all were expecting to inherit billions. Avery must solve all of Tobias’s puzzles to try and fnd answers to why she was the one chosen to inherit his fortune. She goes through a test of courage while racing his grandsons for answers and trying to survive. I recently read this book and fell in love. It uses such imaginative language that draws you into Avery’s world. It is a thrilling read that keeps you engaged the entire time. If you like “The Westing Game” by Ellen Raskin you will like this book too! It has similar mystery themes and an enticing plot. I would give this book nine out of ten stars. It is so addicting to try and solve the mystery along with Avery. This book started slow but the ending was flled with plot twists and turns. There are two more books, “The Hawthorne Legacy” and “The Final Gambit” that are sequels to “The Inheritance Games”. All of these can be found on Amazon or wherever you buy your books. Freshman Kate Rizzo has played basketball for most of her life, so when she had the opportunity to join the Berlin Junior Varsity girl’s basketball team, she had no hesitation. Rizzo’s !rst experience was when she played basketball in !rst grade through a church league. She continued to play in elementary school and for the Berkshire teams in seventh and eighth grade. Rizzo’s coaches and teammates have been supportive of her this year and have always encouraged her to improve. "is kind of encouraging environment helps her and her teammates to grow as basketball players and as people. Rizzo’s favorite memories from this season so far is to spend time with her teammates and when they sang on the bus ride home from away games. She plays point guard and shooting guard for the Bears. For Rizzo, the basketball transition from middle to high school was a great experience. At the high school level, it has gotten more intense but also a lot more fun. She enjoys being able to have more playing time when she is able to play up to varsity. With this, athletes can play up to six quarters per day. Some of her biggest inspirations come from collegiate player Paige Buekers who currently plays for the Uconn Huskies and her father. Rizzo’s dad coached her elementary school travel team. He has been one of her biggest supporters throughout her basketball journey and has always pushed her to get better. Some advice that Rizzo gives to younger players comes from high school coach Tim Notke. “Hard work meets talent when talent fails to work hard,” Rizzo said. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is an exciting and emotional new movie. It is the second movie in the Marvel Black Panther series. "is movie honors the late actor Chadwick Boseman who played Black Panther in the !rst movie. He passed away in August 2020 due to Colon Cancer. "e !rst movie, “"e Black Panther” came out in February 2018. It was a hard decision by Marvel on how to continue to pay respect to Boseman’s legacy and continue on Black Panther’s story. "e Black Panther became an inspiration as the !rst main character black superhero. Black children from all over the world could relate to a Marvel superhero that looks like them. "e movie follows T’Challa’s younger sister Shuri as she and Queen Ramonda !ght to protect Wakanda. Other countries have found out that Wakanda has possession of Vibranium and they search for answers. It introduces new characters and settings. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is similar to the !rst !lm in the production design and the characters. It has a fantastic plot and develops a variety of di#erent emotions in the watchers. It has similar qualities to “Black Panther” and both of the movies in the “Avatar” series. It is rated PG-13 for strong violence and some mild language. "is is an accurate rating for this !lm. Some small children may be disturbed by the amount of violence in this !lm. I love the way that they preserve Boseman’s memory in this movie as well as making a fantastic Marvel movie. It is a great movie that people who enjoy all types of movies would love!
