electronic device, first of all you

connected properly with electricity.

Starting a computer system

Be sure that your power connector is properly connected
with the main electric source.

Be sure that all the parts of the computer are connected
properly with the system unit.

Switch on the power button of the monitor if it is closed.

Now your computer starts to load. It means your
computer is in booting process.

After sometime, your computer may ask your username
and password.

Enter the required user name and password.

When you see the desktop that means you are ready to

Shutting down a computer system

After the use of all electronic devices, you have to close it
properly. You can plug out the device after you finish your
work. As you do for other devices, you have to do for the
computer system also. Shutting down computer system
means closing computer system after your task is complete.
Let’s learn some few steps to shut down the computer system.

Be sure that all the works that you have done in computer
are saved properly.

Place your mouse on start button ( in windows 7) or in
Windows key (in windows 8/8.1)from the desktop.

Select Shut down to close the computer system.

Paint is a small graphics program

painting. As you can draw in paper with
pencil and colour to make your drawing
interesting, you can also do it in your
computer. Paint brush program is also
called Microsoft Paint because it was developed
by the microsoft company of the USA.

How to open MS Paint in Windows 8?

Click on the Start Menu or press windows key.
Type mspaint.
From the list, click on Paint.

We can create various

1. Move the pointer to the required shape.
2. Click on the required shape that you want to draw.
3. Move the mouse pointer to the blank working screen.

You can fill the colour on your drawing shape as below.

Take fill with colour tool.
Select a required colour.
Click inside the drawing area of shape.
Now you can see the effect of the colour on your picture.

Saving the file:

After you create your drawing, you must save it so that you

Click on File menu.
Select Save or save as option.

Components of paint windows:

Title bar
The title bar is located at the top of the paint windows. It
displays the name of the paint file. In the given picture Quick
launch Bar and Untitled-Paint are located on title bar.

Tab:
Tab is located just below the title bar. It has three tabs; they
are File, Home and View.

Ribbon:
It contains the information of tab like FILE, HOME and
VIEW. The following are the options available in Home tab.

Drawing area:
This is a blank area of paint window where drawing and
painting are possible. We can use various tools and insert

Control Buttons
In Paint windows we can see three buttons
on the top right side of the screen.
Minimize
When we click in minimize button, the paint windows
becomes small in size.
Maximize

Working with Home Tab

We can create different types of shapes, colour them and
perform various activities in paint. You need to click on Home
tab to see the given box. Let’s learn the names of some tools
of home tab.

In the above figure, we can see various tools like select tool,
fill with colour tool, text tool, pencil tool, eraser tool, eye
dropper tool, magnifier tool, paint brush tool, etc.
There are also some shapes like line, curve, circle , rectangle,
triangle, arrow, star, etc.

We can draw various shapes with the help of the shown above
box. Let’s identify the names of the above shapes.

First row contains
Line, Curve, Oval, Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle, Polygon
and Triangle serially.

Second row contains
Right-angled triangle, Diamond, Pentagon, Hexagon, Right
arrow, left arrow and Up arrow serially..

Third row Contains
Down row, four-point star, five point star, Six-point or pint
star, Rounded rectangular, Callout, Oval Callout, Cloud Call
out serially.

To use the shape:

Left click over the required
shape.

Move the mouse cursor to the
drawing area.

Press the left mouse button and
drag it to see the shape on the
screen as given in right side.

Colouring the shapes:

We can use colours on the shape with the help of colour
box. We have to use fill with colour tool to fill the
colour on the shape.

Create a required shape.
Click on the fill with colour tool.
Move the mouse to the colour box and click over the

required colour to select the colour.
Bring the mouse pointer inside the drawing area and

press the left mouse button.
The drawing area gets filled with the colour.

Brushes tool

This tool is used to spray colour
inside the drawing or you can
also freely brush on the drawing
area. When you use this tool, it
looks like a colour spray.

You can click on drop down
arrow of brush and select more
styles of airbrush with different
thinness or thickness. as below.

To use brushes
Press left mouse button on the Brushes tool .

Move the mouse cursor to the colour box and select the
colour.

Bring the mouse pointer to the drawing area.

Click and drag the mouse as you required to see the
effects as given.

Colour picker tool

This tool is used to copy colour from one part of the drawing
to another. The function of the colour picker is same as the
fill with colour tool.

To use colour picker tool
Create one picture with a colour and next picture without

colour as below.

Click on the Colour Picker tool.
Move the mouse inside the first picture and press the left

mouse button. (picker tool looks like a fill with colour tool)
Move the mouse pointer to the next figure and click the

left mouse button inside the picture to apply the same
colour.

Rubber tool

This tool is used to erase the part of a picture from the drawing
area which you do not need.
Prepare a drawing with colour.
Left click on the rubber tool.
Move the mouse cursor to the drawing area.
Press the left mouse button and drag the mouse on the

part of the picture which you want to remove as below.

Pencil tool

This tool is used to draw pictures with free hand. You can
draw in your own way as you require.
Left click on the pencil tool.
Move the mouse to the

drawing area.
Press the left mouse button.

Drag the mouse as you required to draw on the screen as
in the given figure.

You can press the shift key together while drawing with
the pencil tool so that the line will be straight.

Text Tool

This tool helps to write in the drawing area. You can type the
text as you require.
Click the Left mouse button over

the text tool.
Move the mouse to the drawing area

and press the left mouse button.
A small rectangle dotted boundary

will appear with a cursor as below.
Type the required text from the keyboard in the text

area.

Again press left mouse button on the blank area to close
the dotted boundary.

Starting a new drawing

After you complete a drawing, you can make another one.
You need a blank drawing to draw a picture. You can use the
given steps to create a new file.
Click on the file tab.
A list will appear as below.

Click on the New.
Now a blank paint windows will appear.

Opening a new drawing

Sometimes you may want to see your previous file which you
have already created. You can use the given steps to open
your file.
Click on the file tab.
