Everyday of the year we celebrate our illustrious Sorority by either donning shirts and hats (or
other clothing) that bear our Greek letters, jewelry like necklaces with beautiful diamond-studded
pyramids, and everyone’s favorite...a DST license plate frame. And while our 22 Founders are

WELCOME HOME

January marks a season of renewal and resolu ons. In Delta, it is also a season of celebra on to honor the
Founders and welcome back into the fold sorors who have been away. Although life happens and circumstances
change, the bond of sisterhood is everlas ng and the love eternal. A few sorors share their reclama on story.

Soror Sandra Barnes: “O en when we see pictures of children we haven’t seen in a while, we remark ‘My, how
me flies’. That’s my view of the me I’ve spent being inac ve in my sorority. There was by no means a plan to
remain inac ve for so many years; me seems to have just flown by! I now find myself with children launched,
career winding down, and life ge ng less demanding. There is breathing room. This is why I’ve decided I now

have the me and energy to become ac ve and make a contribu on to my local, regional, na onal and global
community through my beloved sorority, Delta Sigma Theta.”

Sabrina Golden-Williams: “When I le college many years ago, I wanted to become ac ve with an alumnae
chapter. I just didn't know how. Then life began to happen. In recent years, I connected with other Sorors and
began to long for the sisterhood, public service opportuni es, and networking and decided now is the me.”

BLOOMING WITH

by Cheryl Griffin

Each year the Membership Services
Commi ee gives poinse as to
those sorors who are sick and shut
in. This year, each soror was also
given a card with a "li le something" in it.

Before COVID, sorors delivering the flowers were able to sit and
talk a bit. This year, with mask on and of course properly
distanced the sorors were able to have a few moments to catch
up and snap a quick photo.

It’s hard to say who enjoyed the visits more, because each soror
was excited to meet someone new, or connect for a few minutes
with someone she had not seen for awhile.

RELAY FOR LIFE

By: Delcenia Hobson

As we make a empts to navigate our new virtual "space", and determine
what fundraising looks like, and how it will work in this new environment,
we should all embrace a spirit of change, open-mindedness, and pa ence.
Fundraising efforts look very different now, and commi ees are constantly
brainstorming on ways to raise money and promote awareness of their
various causes...and it's not easy. Technology is ever-changing, and we
must change with it. That being said...

THE HAMPTON DELTA DIAMONDS RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM HAS GONE
VIRTUAL! The American Cancer Society/Relay For Life has done a
tremendous job preparing teams for virtual fundraising! They held their
first virtual event of 2021, Relay First Lap, on Saturday, January 9th!
Walkers/Runners were asked to dedicate their first lap (or mile) to loved
ones they’ve lost to cancer or those who have survived. In true HAC
fashion, our walkers showed up and showed out.

This month, the Hampton Delta Diamonds Relay For Life Team will officially
start its virtual fundraising efforts...and we are excited to bring the ease of
dona ng online to you. Your dona ons will go to suppor ng research,
educa on, advocacy, and pa ent and family services. We have all been
affected, one way or another, by cancer, so please donate from your heart.

· Extreme devo on: We admire her dedica on to our Sorority.
In Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, DEDICATION, is very significant. Each soror must exhibit one or all of the quali es and traits of
DEDICATION listed above in the defini on and examples. Dedica on to a worthy cause for meaningful and worthwhile purposes gives
our lives a sense of purpose and sa sfac on. In 2021, we challenge each soror to find a meaningful and worthwhile chapter program
/commi ee or community program to get involved in and be DEDICATED to it.
Paul Bryant quoted: “If you believe in yourself and have dedica on and pride-and never quit, you will be a winner. The price of victory is
high but so are the rewards.”
Let us follow the examples of our 22 illustrious Founders and be just as DEDICATED as they were to their mission that guides us today.
