Boarding
Tomorrow
Master’s Welcome
On behalf of Marlborough College Malaysia it is my privilege and pleasure to
welcome you to the College for the BSA International Conference in Malaysia,
‘Boarding Tomorrow’.
Marlborough has for many years been at the forefront of independent boarding
education, both in Wiltshire, England and here in Malaysia, and when Nick
Eatough suggested the idea of hosting a BSA organised conference, we were very
keen to see this come to fruition.
I am enormously grateful to Nick for all his efforts in arranging the conference and
to Alex Thomson and Mark Robinson from the Boarding School Association for
agreeing to lead the programme. Thanks are also due to Paul Rennie, the Deputy
High Commissioner to Malaysia, for joining us and delivering the keynote
address.
I hope you have a productive and beneficial conference and Ali and I very much
look forward to welcoming you to the Master’s Lodge on Tuesday evening for a
drinks reception and the conference dinner.
With all good wishes
Robert B Pick

Welcome
A very warm welcome to the first annual BSA International conference in
Malaysia hosted by Marlborough College. This new venture is designed to provide
an opportunity for international boarding staff to develop their knowledge and
skills and most significantly to share experiences and best practice with colleagues
from a range of schools/colleges.
We do hope that you will find this conference of real benefit to your
pastoral/boarding role – please do get fully involved and take part in discussions
and group work.
I look forward to seeing you during the conference.

Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia
Paul Rennie
Paul Rennie was appointed Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia in August
2014.
Paul was born in Edinburgh. He began his education at George Heriot’s School,
before going on to graduate with an MA in Economics & Politics (Edinburgh
University) and an MSc in Economics (York University).
He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth in 2001 as the first of a new cadre of
Diplomatic Service Economists. He has served at Posts in New York (United
Nations), Brazil and India. As well as working on secondment to the Cabinet
Office and the Department for International Development. In addition to
economics, he has developed a specialism in Emerging Markets.
Paul is married with one daughter. When not at work, or enjoying time with
family, Paul can most often be found playing tennis, golf and (occasionally)
archery. He is a fan of travel, Formula 1 and photography, and reads as many
history and politics books as his spare time will allow. He speaks English,
Portuguese, Dutch, French and Hindi.
(In the finest traditions of the diplomatic service, Paul feels it is far too dangerous
to make a pronouncement on his football allegiances).
