LOCAL RESULTS
STATEWIDE IMPACT
Michigan is facing a professional trades workforce gap
of over 545,000 job openings by 2026. Additionally,
Governor Whitmer has established a statewide
goal of 60 percent of Michigan adults earning a
postsecondary education credential by 2030.
The 16 multi-faceted and diverse Michigan
Works! organizations play a crucial role in
achieving the Governor’s statewide educational
attainment goal, as well as building and maintaining a
talent pipeline to address the talent shortage through
a variety of activities, including:
• BUSINESS RESOURCE NETWORKS:
Assisting local companies to leverage resources
to ensure employees’ needs are met, resulting in
improved workplace engagement.
• GOING PRO TALENT FUND: The Michigan
Works! network uses the Going PRO Talent Fund
to ensure Michigan’s employers have the talent
they need to compete and grow; individuals have
the skills they need for in-demand jobs; and
support an increase in credentials, certificates and
degrees through employer-responsive training.
• MICAREERQUEST EVENTS: Regional,
interactive career exploration events that expose
high school students to a broad range of exciting
career opportunities.
8
#DEMAND-DRIVEN
Michigan Works! organizations have a demand-driven
focus as they partner with local employers to identify
workforce needs and skills gaps to overcome.
• Employers get the employees they need
• Job seekers are trained, equipped and
prepared to fill locally-available positions
• Taxpayer resources are valued and saved
#RESULTS
Each year, the Michigan Works! network of job centers:
• Services 677,000 job seekers
• Supports 32,500 employers
• Manages 1.3 million Service Center visits
• Consistently meets or exceeds 100% of its
state and federal performance targets
