PROFESIONNAL PORTFOLIO
NURSING EDUCATION AND FACULTY ROLE

DREXEL UNIVERSITY, 2018

MY PERSONAL TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As I complete my graduate training in nursing education, my goal is to become one of the best Nurse educators in
academia. I have learnt how to utilize both technology and traditional ways of teaching and I intend to adapt these
tools in my teaching style. As a nurse educator, I have been given an opportunity to contribute positively to the
future of nursing by ensuring that future nursing students are trained to become professionals who has been
prepared to utilize evidenced based practices in their nursing career.

I believe in incorporating the knowledge of nursing theories, and creativity into my teaching style. By utilizing various
teaching aids both visually and audios I believe I will be accommodating different learning styles of my students;
be it the visual learner or the abstract learner.

Involving my students in their own learning is also a big asset I will be adapting in my teaching. I am a beneficiary of
discussion boards and groups. I will be encouraging my students to come up with different activities utilizing
rubrics provided for guidance and for them to work as part of a group in order to solve complex problems. The use
of creative activities that challenges the mind promotes reflective thinking in students and a better
comprehension of rationale behind certain actions enhances the student’s problem solving skills.
Technology has become a big part of nursing therefore preparing future nurses to effectively utilize technology as
part of their training is very important. Therefore I will be maximizing the use of different learning tools using
technology like apprenet, flip grid etc. as part of my teaching tool.

There is always room for learning and I intend to remain progressive and constantly re - evaluate my practice as my
career progresses so I can be the best asset to my students in the future.
