Drama

Theatre is a huge part in the history of Ancient Greece. Two of the most
accomplished play writers include Sophocles and Aeschylus. Sophocles had the
most dramatic plays. He is most famous for his play Oedipus the King. Another
famous play writer is Aeschylus. Aeschylus heightened the art of tragedy to
poetry and theatre. Aeschylus was known as” The Father of Tragedy”.

Poetry

Homer was a very important poetic author. He is most known for his Epic
Poems Ilia and The Odyssey.

History

Herodotus is a very important man when it comes to Greek history because he
was the first to make a written record of the events in the past. He was known
as “Founder of History”. Another famous historian is Thucydides who wrote
about the Peloponnesian War. Since he fought in that war his writings are said
to be all factual. Thucydides created a great dependable source.

Sculptor

Phidias is a famous Greek Sculptor. He was the constructor of the Parthenon.
Phidias was one of the first sculptors to sculpt a statue of a god that looked like
a human man.

Architecture

In ancient Greece the main change to the architecture was that columns were
being used. There were three types of columns. The first one is Ionic which has
swirly scrolls at the top as the design. The next one is Corinthian which has very
fancy designs at the top. Doric is the last design which is just plain all around.

Science

The two major Greek scientist are Archimedes and Hippocrates. Archimedes
discovered the laws of levers and pulleys. He also invented the concept of
gravity. Hippocrates was known as the “Father of Medicine”. He made
observations of disease and its effects, and an understanding of how health is
influenced by diet. He studied breakdowns in bodily processes, and lastly the
environment.

Mathematics

The two famous mathematicians were Pythagoras and Euclid. Pythagoras came
up with the Pythagorean Theorem (A2+B2=C2). Basically this is stating that in a
right triangle the sum of the squares of the legs is equal to the square of the

.hypotenuse Euclid's most famous work is his collection of 13 books, dealing

with geometry, called The Elements. In all thirteen of his books theorems are
stated and then proved.

Philosophy

The three most famous Greek philosophers are Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.
Aristotle was known for his work in the physical sciences. Aristotle was a Greek
philosopher who is most famous for writing about many subjects and making
contributions to science such as physics, biology, anatomy, geology and
zoology. Plato is most famous for founding the Academy. He is the author of
philosophical works of unparalleled influence in Western thought. Socrates Is
famous for his discoveries in human philosophy. He was known for asking
questions about people and the ways of human life. This made him different
from all of the other philosophers.
