Objectives of Writing an SoP

● To enhance knowledge of English Language
● To prepare for an admission in a college or university
● To enable yourself prove different from the crowd
● To enable yourself describe your abilities in a synchronized

manner
● To fill yourself with confidence for an application
● To enable yourself to convince the selectors to consider your

candidature over others

What is an SOP?

An admission or application essay, sometimes also called a personal
statement or a statement of purpose, is an essay or a written statement by
an applicant applying to some college, university, or graduate school. It is
usually written for admission into a particular course in an educational
institute or while applying for a job to state the purpose for joining a
particular course or institute or applying for a particular job.

This essay consists of a gist of who you are, who you want to become, and
how ready you are to pursue a certain course in an institution.

Importance of SOP

A well-written SOP is extremely critical to your admission. Needless to say, there
are many aspects of a candidate’s application that are inspected before finalising a
decision. While the academic record and other exam scorecards/academic
transcripts and backlog certificate are essentially objective in nature, an SOP is the
only truly subjective aspect of your application.

It is the only document in your application that gives you the opportunity to prove
that you have something unique that makes you stand out from the crowd. As such,
it is the document of your application docket that can hugely determine your
admission.

1. Introduction paragraph (Your basic introduction)

This paragraph should not introduce you but should discuss what you are about to
discuss in your SOP. There are multiple approaches you may adopt to go about this
paragraph:
Discuss your long-term goal and connect it with your idea of pursuing the course
you are applying to.
Present your understanding of the chosen field and write how you want to contribute
to that field
Explain your background in 2-3 lines and connect it with your future goals.

2. Body
1st Paragraph : State reasons which shows your interest in the given subject:
[In this paragraph, you should discuss why you want to join a course and what modules
would you tap during this course. You may club this paragraph with the introduction
paragraph.]
2nd Paragraph : State your reasons to join the institute:
[This is a specific paragraph wherein you can convince a university as in how they are
suitable for your profile and you are an ideal candidate for their university. You should
discuss the course curriculum, research work, faculty names, as well as the
university-specific activities that would help you in enhancing your profile.]
3rd Paragraph : State your qualifying qualities for getting selected
[This paragraph should include your dreams, goals, academic highlights and your hobbies.
This should also include your desire and readiness towards joining the chosen course.

3. Conclusion

Since this is the closing paragraph, you should sound focussed and prepared for all
the challenges that came your way. It should also show that you have the zest in you
to succeed and with the help of the chosen course and university you will definitely
make a difference in the industry on a global perspective.

To claim and reach heights is always been the driving force behind all my
achievements. With my keen interest in Computer Applications, I was always
fascinated of studying Java Programming at school. It was due to my keen interests
in the subject that I had taken Computer Science after my 10th board. The goal, to
study Computer Applications with more interest and to increase my learning skill,
drifted me to pursue a course at the university level.
