AN INNOVATION IN TEACHING AND LEARNING OF TRANSMISSION IMPULSE
ACROSS SYNAPSE USING NEUROHEMISPHERE RULER

Abstract

The Neurohemisphere ruler was invented as a teaching and learning (T&L) tool in the classroom for Pre-University
lecturers and students for Coordination topic. Neurohemisphere ruler is a hemisphere shape ruler that is created
using transparency plastic as a main material with numbers and keyword ‘DOE BOD R’. It is affordable for
everyone because the production cost is very minimal. This ruler has high commercialization potential for Science
and Biology Pre-University lecturers and students all over the world due to a good functionality, creative design, easy
and effective approach in T&L. Comparative analysis for students performance in pre-test and post-test after
implementation show positive increase for every students. Average marks for labelling the structure of synapse
increase from 18% in pre-test to 85% in post-test. While, average marks for essay part in explaining the transmission
impulse across synapse also increase from 57% to 96%. Our finding shows that Neurohemisphere ruler can be one
of the innovations in education that is essential to ensuring a flexible and effective approach for Science and Biology
subjects in the 21st century learning era.

Objective

The purpose of this innovation is to help students to identify and understand the structure of synapse
and explain the process of transmission impulse across the synapse by using Neurohemisphere Ruler.
This Innovation is design to overcome:
