RAM Memory

• Random-access memory is a form of computer data storage that stores data and
machine code currently being used.

• Its used by the central processing unit when a computer is running to store
information that it needs to be used very quickly, but it does not store any
information permanently.

ROM Memory

• Read-only memory, computer memory on which data has been prerecorded.
Once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only
be read.

• ROM retains its contents even when the computer is turned off.

Motherboard

• The motherboard is a computer’s central communications backbone
connectivity point, through which all components and external peripherals
connect.

• The Motherboard itself is a printed circuit board that allows the CPU, RAM, and
all other computer hardware components to communicate with each other.

CD-ROM / DVD-ROM

• Digital versatile disc-read only memory (DVD-ROM) is a read-only digital
versatile disc commonly used for storing large software applications. It is
similar to a compact disk-read only memory (CD-ROM) but has a larger capacity.

• A DVD-ROM stores around 4.38 GB of data. A CD-ROM usually stores 650 MB of
data.

• It is used for storing storage from disc and for applications when you don’t want
to keep it in your computer.

Flash Drive

• A small electronic device containing flash memory that is used for storing data
or transferring it to or from a computer, digital camera.

• You can use it for storing games when you go to another computer or download
music or movies like a portable.

NIC Card

• The NIC (network interface card) contains the electronic circuitry required to
communicate using a wired connection or a wireless connection.

• It is used for using a mic to talk to other people using a wire or wireless like
Bluetooth.

Video Card

• a printed circuit board controlling output to a display screen.

• A video card connects to the motherboard of a computer system using a slot,
typically an Accelerated Graphics Port or a Peripheral Component Interconnect
Express connection.

CPU

• the CPU is the brains of the computer where most calculations take place.
(Central Processing Unit).

• It is used for calculating like figuring out a problem or it detects viruses for the
computer.

Expansion Slot

• a place in a computer where an expansion card can be inserted.

• It can be used for increasing the memory of the computer for games or for more
storage for your files also it can increase it double you bought it for.

External Hard Drive

• An external hard drive is a portable storage device that can be attached to a
computer through a USB or FireWire connection, or wireless.

• It like a flash drive but holds more storage and you can use it for many things
and are often used to back up computers or serve as a network drive.

Internal Hard Drive

• An internal hard drive is the primary storage device located inside a computer
system. It contains pre-installed software applications, the operating system and
other files.

• internal hard drives, allowing them to provide greater data storage and better
quality for the computer.

Power Supply

• A power supply provides components with electric power.

• A power supply is a component that supplies power to at least one electric load.
Typically, it converts one type of electrical power to another, but it may also
convert a different form of energy – such as solar, mechanical, or chemical - into
electrical energy.

Sound Card

• a device that can be slotted into a computer to allow the use of audio
components for multimedia applications.

• sound card converts digital data to analog sound waves you can hear. The
output signal is then connected to a headphone or set of speakers. You can also
use a sound card to record audio with a microphone.

Document Scanner

• A Document Scanner is a device, which converts a document or text from its
paper form into digital data.

• Document Scanner can be used for copying paper and also faxing it to other
people and used for management for business.

Computer Speaker

• Computer Speaker is a device that converts analog audio signals into the
equivalent air vibrations in order to make audible sound.

• Its used for louder sound quality and better so you can hear and if your listening
to music.

Mouse

• A computer mouse is an input device that is most often used with a personal
computer it is also called the pointing stick .

• It is used for clicking and doing basic things on the computer and so you can use
your computer better than a laptop.

System Unit Case

• System Unit, cabinet, base unit, or simply case, is the enclosure that contains
most of the components of a computer, usually excluding the display, keyboard
and mouse.

• It is used for plugging in your mouse and keyboard so they can work as what
there suppose to do.

Laptop Touchpad

• A touch pad is a device for pointing controlling input positioning on a computer
display screen or laptop.

• It is an alternative to the mouse. Originally incorporated in laptop computers.

Webcam

• a video camera that inputs to a computer connected to the Internet, so that its
images can be viewed by Internet users.

• It can be used for recording yourself like posting it on YouTube so they can see
your face or computer of what your doing.

Keyboard

• A panel of keys that operate a computer or typewriter.
• Its used for to type in the computer to spell word or write essays or for work.

Monitor

• An instrument or device used for observing, checking, or keeping a continuous
record of a process or quantity.

• Its used for seeing the stuff you do in your computer like putting pictures or
typing.

Ink Jet Printer

• A printer in which the characters are formed by minute jets of ink.

• Its used for printing paper like a document or your work like if you did your
homework on the computer but you turned it in on paper because you print it
out.

Laser Printer

• A printer, linked to a computer, producing good-quality printed material by
using a laser to form a pattern of electrostatically charged dots on a light-
sensitive drum, which attract toner or, dry ink powder.

• It’s a printer but for pictures like if you want to put a picture in your wall it will
make it look more realistic.

Light Pen

• A handheld, pen like photosensitive device held to the display screen of a
computer terminal for passing information to the computer.

• You can used it for passing information or a signature when your parents use
their credit card.

Joystick

• A lever that can be moved in several directions to control the movement of an
image on a computer or similar display screen.

• When your playing a game to aim or to move around the game of a free world
game or map.
